The shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri became a controversial media sensation. The shooting created uproar and mistrust towards police officers. Many believed the shooting was unjustified and even an act of racism on the behalf of the police Officer Darren Wilson. The Department of Justice issued an investigation in order to understand the basis of the shooting and to decide whether or not to charge Darren Wilson in the shooting. Despite the evidence and the investigation which portrayed the shooting as an act of self- defense, the shooting still remains controversial.
It was a hot summer afternoon with the smell of fresh pizza out of the oven in the air just after lunch at around 4:30 pm when it happened. He was an African American man, about 5’9”. He looked and smelled as if he had not shaved or showered in months. He had on a stained navy blue button down shirt almost 2 sizes larger then him and wore saggy torn up pants which were held in place by a belt. As he asked for a cup of water I replied by saying all we had were bottled water and since it was not my store I had to have him pay for it. As I said this he began to get frustrated and started throwing whatever he could find to the ground then pushed over a large stand full of calzones causing it to come falling down and causing a huge mess. After being told that cops were on their way the man left the store and did not return for some time.

Since I was little my favorite thing to watch on TV would be murder shows that where based on true stories. I would stay up all night watching these shows. Most of my friends found it weird but I felt like this is something that keeps me from being naïve to this world we live in. I was thirteen around the time. So by now I had watch almost a thousand murder shows and I thought I had heard it all. Well I was wrong. This is a story I would never forget. I remember it because it was hard for me to believe that something so horrendous could not only be committed by someone young but to innocent people.

By the time I’d gotten to Latria’s, I’d already told her about picking up my bangles from mom’s house, Jason and the fake flyer, Trent and his late night conversation with Diamond, and Boogie coming on to me. After hearing about all of those things that I’d encountered in less than a 24-hour time frame, Latria already had our drinks poured when I arrived. I hadn’t been over to her place for a while, and I noticed that she’d painted the kitchen a sage color and hung new curtains. I kicked my shoes off at the front door and went to sit on my favorite couch.

“This is the BBC reporter James speaking. How may I help you?” “I live in the next door of a murder suspect’s house. Could you please come to …” I wrote down the home address of an unknown informant. From the high-pitched tone and bird-like voice, it was a woman for sure; however, that was all I knew.
