When I was a kid my life consisted of a lot of wishful thinking. Typically I would ignore reality and let my imagination take over. For me cardboard boxes transformed into a heavy, fully armed, high flying Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. I can remember every spring when the days would start to get warm, my family would have a truck full of mulch dumped into the driveway to be laid. To me, this pile was an archaeologist's digging site filled with fossils and ancient relics. The brown pile was a tall mountain who’s peak pierced the wispy clouds of the Great Plains. The reason I am telling you this is because sometimes when you are little reality hurts and this is my story of how I came to terms with this fact. Around the time that I was 5 years old my family went on a vacation to The Magic Kingdom at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This was my first time going to Disney World so I was super excited. We woke up early and I slept for the 40-minute drive to Kansas City International Airport. After checking the bags we walked to the gate and to my amazement the plane we were flying on had black and white painted areas(livery). I turned to my dad and said: “Dad what is wrong …show more content…
We checked into the hotel and I was amazed by the sheer size of the lobby. I suddenly heard a screeching noise and spun around just in time to see a monorail inside the hotel. I had never seen something so cool before. I started to beg my parents to get a ride on the monorail, unfortunately, we had to go up to our room and get situated. The good thing was that I was going to have the whole day to do fun things as it was only about 10 o’clock in the morning. We traveled up the glass paneled elevator which offered a 180-degree view overlooking the entire lobby of the hotel. Our room was very nice and comfortable. I was hoping the room would be themed but unfortunately, it was not. It was still very
Imagination and reality are often viewed as opposites. People are told to stop playing pretend and to face reality like an adult. However, in Alison Gopnik’s short story, “Possible Worlds: Why Do Children Pretend,” she discusses counterfactuals and how humans of all ages experience these counterfactuals. Gopnik’s definition of a counterfactual is the product of hope and imagination, also known as the woulda-coulda-shouldas of life. These counterfactuals include all the possible scenarios that could have happened in the past and all that could happen in the future. Scientists have proven that knowledge and imagination go hand in hand and without imagination, pretend, and fantasy there would be no science or opportunity for change. In the text, Gopnik explains how even babies are capable of
When we got out there we were all very impressed by the appearance of the city. This was obviously a tourist town. When we found the hotel we were impressed by the huge glass windows and cedar siding. It looked more like the Hilton than a Best Western. We checked in and were shown to our rooms. After bringing in all of our things, we went straight to bed knowing that we had a huge day ahead of us, not knowing how huge it was really going to be.
We went ahead and shopped for some souvenirs. I believe I my mom bought me a Batman tee shirt, along with a few other things I could not recall. Then I saw a store that sold candy. Walking in I saw a diverse variety of sweets, and they had everything from chocolate to lollipops. My eye caught a little container full of gummy worms, and I decided to a bag full of them. Once my mom purchased the candy, we began to head out. I remember walking next to my father. When suddenly, boom! I ran into a ginormous window, and my dad walked through the door. My parents and the young lady working the cash register began to laugh. My mom said, "Are you okay?", "Yes, I am fine.” I said. She looked at my forehead, and she noticed I had a small bruise. My mom thought it best that we sat down for a few minutes. I thought we should go on another roller coaster. We ended up getting on The Superman Krypton
Walt Disney has brought two theme parks to life because of his imagination. He never stopped chasing his dreams, even if they seemed impossible. Walt Disney World came after Disneyland and it is located in Florida. Disney World is known to be the "most magical place on earth" and the place "where dreams come true". Many people haven't been to the park, so they might be skeptical of the "magic" that is held within. Walt Disney World is the "most magical place on earth" because of the rides, characters, shows, the electrical parade, Wishes Nighttime Spectacular, and the infinitely growing attractions.
The sound of music, filling the air with happiness, resonates throughout the area. The scent of delicious buttery popcorn and glazed turkey legs that go on for miles and miles. The feeling of excitement coming into the place is felt in the atmosphere. It is the image of a once in a lifetime moment. When people come in, their imaginations become reality. The name describes itself perfectly. Walt Disney World is the place of dreams and imagination. People come from all around the world to see the rides, characters, food and the entertainment of Walt Disney World. I remember when I went to Disney World this past March. It was the third time I have gone to Disney World. To see the amazement and the expectation of the
Somehow, I made it back to the hotel. Immediately, I had a huge dinner. That night I slept like a rock. I had fallen asleep to a beautiful Utah sky, one that I wouldn’t forget. The next morning I packed up, checked out, and hopped in my car. Before I left there was one thing I had see. It was the maze, the last main feature of the park I had not see. Once I got there I saw really why it was called the maze. The large rocks formed in a such a way that the path below swiveled multiple times before the rocks were cut off. I observed the seen and then hopped in my car. As I drove to the airport I thought of how much I loved and would remember this trip despite all the
Young girls sit in front of the television watching Disney movies portraying picture perfect girls who are rescued and swept off their feet by a handsome knight in shining armor. While some believe these movies are perfectly harmless, research proves differently. Disney culture has negatively affected society by causing self-esteem issues, establishing gender norms in movies like Sleeping Beauty, and by setting unrealistic expectations, such as those seen in the similar “fairy tale” endings of The Little Mermaid and the movie version of Pride and Prejudice. If one has a bit of background information on this topic, he or she can make up his or her mind on the issue.
The trip to Florida over Christmas break was unlike any other. Yes, most people would jump at the opportunity to go to Florida after a winter like we had up to that point. So, let me give you some background on why the trip. Back in July my mother in-law had an epileptic seizure that rendered her in a coma, she has not awoken from and the doctors are pushing to let her go. She has been moved 3 hours from my brother in-laws house to Georgia. Thanks to our lovely health care system, it was the only place available that could take care of her needs. Perfect timing kids are out of school and it is a good time to travel so you would think. I have been out of work
Florida has lots to offer. Florida is also known as the sunshine state. One place i would like to visit would be Florida because you can go to Disney World, walk through paths to see alligators, and visit the University of Florida to see their football and softball programs.
So have you ever been to Disney World? Most of you probably have been there. I didn’t go to Disney World until November of last year with my family. I wasn’t sure what it would be like, but it was incredible. It was a lot of fun, and it was a great experience because I was with my family.
Vacations aren't always perfect there is always something that goes wrong. At least in my experiences. A perfect vacation to me is when we are all together as a family, which honestly doesn't happen that much. Having a 20 year old brother an 18 year old in post secondary school can make things complicated. Or having a vacation with no,ILLNESS, which can be very, very hard to do!! And I know I’m not the only one who has experienced this on a vacation!
I went to the bathroom and when I came back, I saw our luggage and grabbed it. Then, we had to get our passports stamped. We waited in line for what felt like a year and then we were at the front. The man who welcomed us was no older than 40. He was nice and quickly stamped our passports. He asked where we were from and if we were on vacation or visiting a relative. I dazed off and looked at the band playing and all the humongous statues throughout the area. Our journey was not over and we had to wait for a taxi. The company was named, Sheryl's Taxi. The lady who greeted us immediately knew why were here. She said," Greetings, and welcome to Nassau! Let me guess... You are here for the gymnastics thing." We were kind of shocked and then I realized the competitors probably all took this taxi. I got into the white van like vehicle and took a seat. We all had a big seat to ourselves. We were almost at Paradise Island. It was weird having the driver sit on the right side of the car, while other drivers sat on the left. It was strange. My dad explained that the cars were probably from England and was interrupted by the driver, "Attention passengers I am your driver and your tour guide as I take you to Paradise Island." He went on and explained the views and hotels. I was amazed when I saw three whopping cruise ships tower over the little buildings. My favorite sight was the back of a Carnival cruise ship. A red and blue tail
Everyone who has ever been to Disney World thinks it’s going to be the vacation of a lifetime but when we went it was the vacation from Hell!
2. What is the difference between a.. Statement of Purpose The purpose of this study would be to illuminate the very real possibility of secondary disasters, i.e. stampedes, mass hysteria, riots, etc. The images of a forced evacuation of over 40,000 people by a force of untrained individuals are nightmarish. Unfortunately, at a vacation destination as large as Walt Disney World, efficient and accurate training can be a challenge. Any and all attempts to streamline the process and physically and mentally prepare staff members for an unforeseen event are vital.
When I heard my parents talking about going to Disney World I was so excited. It was a long trip down to Florida and I could not sit still, because I was so excited. We finally arrived that evening and decided to stay in a hotel near the theme park. When it was time for bed I could not go to sleep for a long time, because I was so excited about going at Disney world. When I saw the big mirror ball from the entrance, I was amazed. Disney world had a wide variety of rides. There were tons of rides that shocked me. Some of these rides made you feel like you were riding in a jet because of how fast they were. There was even a roller coaster ride in the huge mirror ball. It was a slow ride, but I still liked it because there was air conditioning inside the ball. We spent all day at the park until we had ridden everything. That night Disney World had a firework show. The fireworks seemed like they lasted forever with the amazing colors bursting in the air one right after another. When the firework show finally ended my parents told me that it was time to leave. I was...
