BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! My alarm clock noisily beeped until I slammed it off. It was Friday, and I just had to make it through one more day of school. It was 5:00 A.M. My alarm usually goes off at six. I was a little bit confused. Then, it hit me like a line drive to the gut. I was going to the Bahamas. I ran down the stairs faster than a fighter jet in combat and put my cinnamon toast Eggo waffle in the toaster. I realized that I needed to wake everyone else up so we could go. I heard what sounded like a pig in distress, and knew my dad was fast asleep. I tried to be gentle when I woke him up. First it was a tap. He snored. Then, it was a whisper followed by a light shove. He snored three times. I wondered if he was communicating

When we were about to take off I smelt a terrible smell. "It must be something gone bad. It smells kind of like moldy cheese," I thought. What I saw next took my mind off the smell faster than a wild gazelle. It was a white building in the shape of a pentagon. In fact it was the Pentagon. It was ginormous, it was fascinating. Then we started to turn, and I saw the Capitol building up close. It was white like snow and it was very tall. We were on another Embraer 190 and the flight was very smooth. When the flight attendant came, I got a pineapple Fanta and then I got out my salad. The next time I looked out the window, I saw the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I watched more River Monsters on the television and then I needed to go to the bathroom. I stupidly took out my phone to play a racing game, but I forgot to turn off my volume so it blared the sound of a NASCAR sprint cup car zooming by. My dad and the stranger next to him woke up and looked at me. My cheeks were hotter than the Sahara desert, and I slumped down in my chair. Only when my dad was about to fall asleep I remembered my …show more content…
I went to the bathroom and when I came back, I saw our luggage and grabbed it. Then, we had to get our passports stamped. We waited in line for what felt like a year and then we were at the front. The man who welcomed us was no older than 40. He was nice and quickly stamped our passports. He asked where we were from and if we were on vacation or visiting a relative. I dazed off and looked at the band playing and all the humongous statues throughout the area. Our journey was not over and we had to wait for a taxi. The company was named, Sheryl's Taxi. The lady who greeted us immediately knew why were here. She said," Greetings, and welcome to Nassau! Let me guess... You are here for the gymnastics thing." We were kind of shocked and then I realized the competitors probably all took this taxi. I got into the white van like vehicle and took a seat. We all had a big seat to ourselves. We were almost at Paradise Island. It was weird having the driver sit on the right side of the car, while other drivers sat on the left. It was strange. My dad explained that the cars were probably from England and was interrupted by the driver, "Attention passengers I am your driver and your tour guide as I take you to Paradise Island." He went on and explained the views and hotels. I was amazed when I saw three whopping cruise ships tower over the little buildings. My favorite sight was the back of a Carnival cruise ship. A red and blue tail
This past summer, my family and I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. We had just docked at the second port, Nassau, and were preparing to exit the gigantic ship named the Carnival Fantasy. Once we got to the city, I noticed it was bustling with people of all different backgrounds and cultures. The roads were narrow and some even hilly. I remember coming to the conclusion that a lot of people in the Bahamas must have road rage what from the blaring car horns I could hear around every corner. My family and I were walking along the sidewalk, glancing into shops as we passed them. The weather was unbearably hot, but growing up in South Carolina allowed my family and I to push onward with our adventure. The sun burn on my back started to pulsate in pain any time the sunlight hit it, so we decided to stick to the side of the buildings that provided shade.
As my family and I walked into the plane, we were excited. The plane ride to jamaica stopped in L.A. and, after that, it went to jamaica. When we arrived in Jamaica it was really hot, but it was wet. I immediately took off my sweater I was wearing on the plane. We took a bus to our hotel. Then we started swimming in the water park. Every night there was a show in the main stage. The next day we woke up early to go to chukka. It was awesome. We saw a great house, rode on horses, and did a challenge course. After we came back from Chukka, we went to the water park and swimming pool at the hotel. Then we ate at fresh, which we went most of the time. The next day we woke up earlier to go to the dolphin cove. The bus was an hour late, but the wait
The day of my grandparents had told me they have been wanting to go to the Florida Keys and asked if I would like to join. So of course i wanted to go. Oh and when they told me i could bring a friend along i was jumping with happiness inside. They told me we would be going for a couple weeks and they had all expenses covered. So that day I started talking to Jamie and asking her when she would be back, because at that time she was in Florida visiting family. She had told me she would be back . So i asked her is she would like to join me and take a trip to the Keys with me. I could tell she was so excited when i asked her because she texted me back all in caps and said “CALL ME”. So i called her to let her know all of the details. So she ended up getting back .So when she got back from Florida we went to Walmart and bought a lot of
Ask yourself “if I could take a trip ANYWHERE where would I go” well, I asked myself the same question where would I go? Here is my answer, I would go to the Bahamas because I think that I need to try something new. I think that if I went to the Bahamas then i would try everything because i am very deprived as in i don’t take advantage of the things i could be doing.
This past summer, I was privileged enough to travel to the Dominican Republic through the Global Glimpse program, which has eminently impacted the person I am today. I have to confess that this trip was by far the most challenging, yet extraordinary I have ever experienced. Before going on this trip I always had an idea of what poverty is like, but I didn’t intentionally know how I would feel about it. Through this trip, I was fortunate enough to speak to different communities who were facing poverty and was given the chance to personally talk to the community of the Bejuco Aplastado, where I worked on a Community Action Project. Regardless of the struggles the orphans and locals have to unfortunately face, they never fail to put a smile on their face.
History of the Bahamas The Bahama Islands were discovered on October 12, 1942 by Christopher Columbus. Columbus and his Spanish crew stumbled upon the archipelago while looking for a trade route to the wealth of the West Indies and named is San Salvador. (Craton, pg. 30) The Spanish settlers encountered the native Bahamians, the Lucayans upon thier arrival. The Lucayans were a primitive race of farmers and fisherman that had migrated north from Venezuela to escape the cannibalistic Caribs.(Bothwell, pg. 27)
I was walking toward my plane seat when I noticed four men looking around nervously. My seat was directly behind one of these men. Right before I was going to fall asleep, I heard a loud noise in front of me. At first I was in a daze, but my instincts kicked in quickly. I looked over to my right and saw a cold, dead body lying on the floor. Blood was spilled all over the floor. I heard strange voices all around me. I peered down at the body and was sickened to see that the man's jugular had been sliced to pieces. I looked down the aisle and what I saw shocked me to the core. I saw dead bodies every two seats or so. “Everybody calm
Everyone in this world has similarities and differences. This idea is shown in “The Ransom of Red Chief” by O. Henry. In the story two kidnappers, Bill and Sam, take a boy and try to get two-thousand dollars as a ransom from the father, but taking the kid ends up being more than it is worth. Sam is the leader of the operation and is a little more cool and calm, while Bill is a little bit more on the edge. The two kidnappers' similarities are interesting, but their differences are more important.

Beep! Beep! I turned over so I was facing the table my alarm clock was perched on. 6:00 a.m. read the alarm clock. I moaned I didn't want to get out of bed
I was smacked in the face by a gust of hot, humid Texas air as I found my way off the bus. The once brisk morning was getting hotter by the second. My friend Kristi and I looked towards our left and there she was, the Norwegian Sea. The cruise liner that we would be on for the next week. It was the biggest ship I had ever seen up close. Ten stories high and nearly 1000 feet long. It had an intimidating presence that took one's breath away.
As the days went on, it all seemed to blur and become more and more a figment of my imagination. One day while milking the cow, she became agitated and kicked me off of my milking stool. It was at this moment that the whole world began to shake. I got back up and looked around and I was staring at the back of the seat in front of me. I was back on my flight through the Bermuda Triangle on my way to Mauritania, and a kid behind me was repetitively kicking my seat. The flight attendant was rattling on the intercom warning us that turbulence was about to begin due to us landing on the runway.
The moment we stepped foot into the hospital, I could hear my aunt telling my mother that “he is in a better place now”. At that moment, something had already told me that my dad was deceased; it was like I could feel it or something. I felt the chills that all of a sudden came on my arms. As my mother and grandmother were both holding my hand, they took me into this small room. The walls were white, and it had a table with four tissue boxes sitting on the top. My other grandmother was there, and so were my two aunts, my uncles, and
I was very excited to go swimming and meet other people to hang out with while I was outside. After, I went to my room to get a shower and put on some comfortable clothes I walked to the very front of the boat and the wind was blowing like 60 miles per hour. When I looked once again, I could see this little island with many lights on it and it was called the Bahamas. The Bahamas was very enormous and there were different shops to buy things at. When the boat finally arrived their everyone got off to go explore the island and buy thing, so I decided to look around and I bought different drinks to try. When I got to the edge there was very blue amazing glimmery water reflecting to me it was so cool to see kids playing and swimming in the water and on the
