My First Job
I was hired by small contract company called Gateway Airport Service as a Customer Service at one of the busiest airport in the states. My first day on the way to work I was getting very intense. I started to get nervous about what I would be doing and whom I would be working with. I haven’t had any previous job experiences whatsoever. The closer I get to the work the more fearful I was. Once I pulled into the employee parking lot I was kind of shaking, I remain seated and took a deep breath. I thought about it but there is no way I can go back home. I just needed a little extra push so I was encouraging myself, “Come on you can do it, come on you can do it,” I cheered myself on. I walked in the office and the managers and supervisors were very welcoming and so excited to see me.

shoulder and told me if you need anything come to me. I felt so relaxed and less anxious than when I was in the car. He then introduced me to one of his trainers, the guy who thought me everything about customer service. Right away I noticed the airport was so busy, I’ve never seen that much people in one building. My trainer told me not to worry and to pretend like nobody is looking at you. He said, act like you are invisible. The second day I got much better and my trainer paired me up with one of the employees. I have to follow him all over the airport to see what the job is all about. Our duties were to assist elderly and disable people at designated arrival points, such as terminal entrances, ticket counters, TSA check points, gates and car parks. We had a passenger with Parkinson’s disease, he requested a wheelchair and he was shaking nonstop. I didn’t know what it was at first; he brought back the fear I had before. However, the passenger was calm, cheerful and very grateful person. We picked him up from taxi drop off, checked him in, took him through security checkpoint and arrived at his gate. We turned around to head back and he said wait, wait a minute I have a little tip for you guys. He pulled out his wallet from his back pocket and took one hundred dollar out, handed me and said split. I was so shocked and excited; I never though I would get a fat tip, especially on my first day. The third day I started working on my own and I was sent to meet someone off the plane.
A blind person came off; I asked him if he needed a wheelchair. He said he is totally fine and that he just needs someone to guide him to his next flight. I gave him one of my hands and he hold on to me following me from behind. I helped him reach his connecting flight and he then continue his next part of his journey. I literally felt so grateful for what I have. That’s when I realized I was actually doing something in my life. It was my passion helping those kinds of people by putting smile on their faces.
Lastly, as a customer service in one of the busiest places I have learned so many things, it turned out to be a great outcome and lovely atmosphere. Customer service entails much patience, and listening skills with each different person that approaches me every day. Staying up to date with each customer involves multitasking and building a wonderful relationship while understanding their needs. Recently, I have noticed my job has become a way for me to enhance my techniques to starting my profession confidently and
strongly.
During the summer or even on weekends my mom would take me with her to go help out her patients. Which included bathing them, feeding them, and caring for them. Not only did I help my mom with her patients but I would always help rake leaves, pick up trash and make their yard look nice. I can’t even image how they would’ve done all the things I did for them with their fragile bodies. I’m glad I was there for them and made a difference. Aside from helping my mom’s patients. I helped an elderly man who was on fire in his backyard. It was around spring time and I heard someone screaming yelling “help” so I went around to look and there he was on fire. I tried so hard to put out the fire and it felt like mission impossible but I did not give up even though the ambulance were on the way. He was burnt pretty bad, but I was so glad I found him. Who knows it could’ve been worse! He is still alive till this day and sits on his porch waiting for me to pass by his house every morning to say good morning. It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that I not only changed a life but I saved
Growing up all my friends had perfect jobs for teenagers. As a teenager, I spent a lot of time applying for jobs and searching for places to work because money didn’t come easy and I wanted to be in control of my own money. But I could never score a job. I applied to at least 100 jobs at least twice and I still couldn’t get an opportunity.
While I had worked customer service jobs before, nothing compared to the communication with customers in this job. As shown in the last example, our customers can be very pretentious at times. In the three months I have been working for Starbucks, I have met more difficult customers than I have in my entire time working customer service. I have met customers who have treated me poorly because I was a confused, new employee and I have met customers who have treated me poorly because they felt inclined to more authority than me. While I have to deal with many awful customers, the enjoyable customers that I get to meet and interact with make this job completely worth the aggravation.
... that I gained from the story. There are many times even to this day that fear affects me on a daily basis. Do I send my résumé for this job? Should I even bother? Am I just going to be rejected? Well, if I don't attempt, I will never know, and not knowing is much worse than an attempt and fail. The hardest part, is exactly what Haw said, taking the first step, because after that, no matter what happens whether it be success or failure, you will always learn something and gain valuable knowledge along your journey and eventually you will find success.
Have you ever worked with a job that requires driving a diesel around? Like sometimes it goes “ RaaaaaaaRaRaRaaaaaaaa”. The first time I saw him I wasn’t sure if work will be hard and difficult because he didn't seem the most happiest or the most energetic person. But he had Blonde hair, blue eyes. About 6 foot tall. Pretty much the same body type as me but little more on the heavy side. He wore a pair of black boots that looked good enough for work boots and that will hold out for at least 3 years. He had a pair of white oaks that he doesn't admit wearing them. Of course he had to wear jeans and our official shirts and hats to work. I been told later he has been working there for t least a month since i was gone for school. Outside was warm and I already had some work in, the
Work is a means of life, it is what keeps society running across the globe . Perspectively speaking work is the sole defender of anarchy. Our lives are based off the ideology of go to school, get a job, and work hard. That sentence alone has been embedded in our brains since most could remember. In the Memoir “first job” , Iliana Roman feels that hard work, and good ethics must be embedded in our youth. If neglected to do so, it can lead to a non functional society. She of all people knows this to be true. Iliana worked her way up from the bottom. She worked long hours, attended school, and raised 3 kids. eventually leading to her owning her own company, and being her own boss.
The day came, when we were leaving to drive all of the way to California for a mission trip. I was excited to get a new experience serving the homeless, but was a little nervous. The first couple of days we served food to the homeless at a homeless shelter. It was very humbling to see how grateful they were for the meal they were provided. In the evening we got the opportunity to hand out sack lunches on the street. I gave my lunch to a young homeless lady. The attitude of the lady surprised me so much, I was able to have a spiritual conversation with her for over an hour. It was truly amazing to see that someone who has nothing in life is so humble and can still believe in God.
I am hardworking because I had two summer jobs. I worked at the Medomak camp retreat center. After weeks of hard working 7hour days and 1 day off a week. I got laid off, because it was the end of the season and there was only 2 weeks left until closing. So I went down the road the the Medomak camp family camp to the director who got me hired at my first job, and for the rest of the summer watched his 3 year old twins Lyla and Areya.
Moving from a highly diverse community to a less diverse community has to be the weirdest yet interesting culture shock I ever had to deal with. As a young child, I did not know about the outside world. I thought everyone rides the bus or the metro, graffiti on the wall is normal and traffic wouldn’t matter as much since everything I needed was within walking distance sometimes. There were shocking things I learned once I moved to Nebraska.
Customer service by definition is the ability of knowledgeable, capable, and enthusiastic employees to deliver products and services to their internal and external customers in a manner that satisfies identified and unidentified needs and ultimately results in positive word-of-mouth publicity and return business (Lucas, 2012, pg.7). In other words, it’s making the customer pleased so that they keep doing business with you all while making sure that the employees get along and work together well. In every business there is a form of customer service. Unfortunately, it is not always excellent or even decent. Some businesses just either don’t care or possibly just don’t have the training to deal with some of the obstacles that come with dealing with customers on a daily basis. I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 13 years and I can tell you that there are skills that some are born with and others need training on, yet either way they should be used whenever interacting with customers.
When you try really hard but fail is a lot better than never trying. Making decisions is a huge part of anyone's life because you make them every day. Calling in sick to work to go hangout out with your friends is not as bad as it seems. I work 5 days a week that means I really only have one day out of the week to go do something with my friends. It was a nice cool Friday night and a group of people were going out for the night to a amusement park.

Before junior year, I got up at 5:45 a.m. and took the train and bus to school. Getting my driver's license meant more freedom, more independence, and sleeping in later. For my parents, my license meant a free taxi company for my 3 younger sisters, but I didn’t know that my license would mean getting closer to my sister Ella.
When I was young, I wasn’t exactly excited about getting a job. Sure, it would be a good way to meet some new people and learn about how the real world worked, but in the end, it was mostly about having some extra money. Having to ask family for to buy me the next new video game or graphic novel didn’t always feel good. I knew that when I buy something with my own money, I would feel proud. I applied to a few of jobs, and when I finally got the email telling me that I had an interview, a little nervous.
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
