Breaking My Collarbone In the past, I’ve made numerous mistakes. They all were very similar, most of them being related to school, sports, friendships, or even as simple as arguing with a parent. Although I had many, and learned quite a few lessons from them, most of these mistakes were not life changing. I would usually just be grounded by a parent, or get half credit on the homework because I didn’t do it correctly. Those mistakes were not as grand, or complex, or painful as my favorite mistake. I hadn’t realized until I reflected on the event, but my favorite mistake was when I broke my collarbone playing flag football in sixth grade. I remember it was a perfect day to play football. The fresh, morning air gave me energy, making me feel …show more content…
Before the start of the game I was told to guard their best receiver because nobody else could keep up with him. Even though i was fast, I was definitely not as fast as him. He was like lightning, speeding past me and making quick, subtle turns that were hard to predict. I was so tired from guarding him all game that by the end of the first half I felt like collapsing. When they hiked the ball, I made sure that I tried my best to stop him from getting the ball. Without failing to surprise me, he predicted my next move and feinted left and then turning right. I fell for the trick, and his quarterback threw the ball to him. He caught it and started running down the field. I sprinted after him. I put the rest of my energy into this run. As I got closer and closer to him, an idea formed in my head. When I got close enough I would dive for his flag, hoping to pull it before he reached the end zone. It was not a very intelligent idea, but it could’ve worked. When I was almost touching him, I dove. I missed the flag by millimeters. As I hit the ground I heard a loud ‘POP’ in my shoulder. Instantly I knew that I had broken a

My biggest accomplishment throughout high school so far has been learning how to fail. Not necessarily falling flat on my face in a viral video, but instead just barely coming up short and not being able to reach a goal, despite my best efforts. Although I was unaware of it at the time, failing my driver’s test on my first attempt would become a life altering incident.
The first drive of the second half advanced as planned for the Packers until they met the 50 yard line. It was 2 and 5 and Aaron dropped back for a pass. Jordy and Randall ran switch verticals and both the safety and the corner followed Randall leaving Jordy wide open. I saw Jordy from a million miles away and thought Aaron read my mind, but shockingly he threw an incomplete pass towards Randall Cobb. After that play, I stormed past the security guards to the play caller and told him to run the same play but try throwing the ball to Jordy this time. I was positive that the coach ignored me as he called in the play. Aaron dropped back again and Randall and Jordy ran the same route. This time Aaron threw the ball and it screamed past the linebackers and into the delicate hands of Jordy Nelson for a touchdown. The crowd and the sideline crazily celebrated and the coach turned to thank me. Instead of kicking the extra point, the Packers made the bold move of going for two. Aaron got under the center and snapped the ball then he faked the handoff and ran behind the left tackle earning the points. The Packers now led 15-14 with 3 minutes left in the third quarter. Then with 30 seconds left in the game the Cowboys had the ball on the Packers 30 yard line. They decided to take a knee and use a timeout with five seconds remaining to make sure the Packers didn’t start another drive. Tony got under the center and looked over to Dez Bryant, his number 1 receiver, and I knew immediately the ball would be thrown to him. The ball snapped and Dez ran vertical and soon the ball followed him, he jumped up to catch the ball and the stadium was so silent that I thought I walked into church on Monday morning for a second. Dez magically placed one on the ball but Tramon Williams broke the connection ending the game. The stadium erupted like a volcano with happiness and the
It was the day, that day, that special Friday, game day. Game day not only meant that there was a football game, but there was a pep-rally, where our team would be performing. The routine was one minute and thirty seconds long , and I knew
I loved everything about the sport, knew everything about the sport, and simply wanted to be physically involved with the sport. I signed up for my local football organization and greatly anticipated the start of the season. My first season our team finished undefeated, winning each game with ease. I played offensive line and enjoyed every play, finally being a part of the sport I loved. My coach at the time admired my hard work and dedication, repeatedly telling my fellow teammates that we should all aspire to have a work ethic such as my own. At the end of the season, my coach suggested I practice to become a quarterback. A quarterback is usually one of the skinniest players on the team, a trait I certainly didn't have. If I were to be a quarterback, I would have to lose at least thirty pounds and practice almost every day until the next season. As crazy as the suggestion seemed to me at the time, I gladly accepted the challenge and almost instantly began to work to become the best quarterback I could
I recently started getting severe pain in my lower front teeth and swelling in my jaw which prompted an emergency visit to the dentist. Turns out I had an abscess in the old extraction site from a previous wisdom tooth removal some 7 years past. The infection caused my lower left molar to rot out and need to be extracted and also contributed to some pretty severe bone loss in my lower jaw. Now I'm in a rather desperate situation, my front teeth are on the verge of falling out from the bone loss and my only option to save the teeth and stop the pain is to have a bone graft done to make up for what has gone missing from the infection, the graft itself is going to cost 2,500$ and needs to be done as soon as possible to avoid losing my front teeth
“The error of the past is the wisdom and success of future” once said Dale Turner when asked about his past mistakes. A mistake is defined as an error in calculation, action, or judgement cause by poor reasoning or carelessness. They create an opportunity to learn, and are perhaps life's greatest lesson in teaching humanity how to grow, mature, and imbibe new knowledge. It was a cold morning the day I boarded the massive yellow school bus. My mother was full of tears as I waved goodbye to her, she was sending her only son to Astrocamp; a three day affair full of science, fun, and ga-ga ball.
A broken bone is one of the worst and most painful injuries you can suffer. Broken bones can be caused by many different things such as falling on it or even a hard-twisting motion. Bones can be easily viewed as a solid, non-working part of our body where tissue just sits, but your skeletal system is as much a living part as your organs. Your body stores minerals in the compact bone, and stores fat in the yellow marrow. Your bone also has the ability to produce red blood cells in the inner part, the red marrow. Your bones can do many great things, including healing themselves. The process of healing themselves is complex and can take a lengthy period of time.
Mistakes have been made from the beginning of time. Adam and Eve, the first living humans, made a mistake and were thrown from heaven to live apart from God. Ever since then, every human alive has made at least one mistake that either they or someone else regrets. Including myself as one. Some people spend their whole life reflecting on those mistakes and try to change the past. I personally have not made a mistake, that influential, to affect my life. But I have made some very dreadful decisions in my life. Several being about, something I may have said to an individual to disrespect them; or what I did in a basketball game that affected the whole team; or even a decision I made while hunting on the mountain that affected my parents.
Winston Churchill said, “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.” While I have learned from my mistakes in the past, all the experiences that I have endured have made me into the person I am today. Even being a work-in-progress, I have a solid foundation, strong internal support and blueprints of the person I will become. And the day I become a complete multi-colored sculptor of experiences and hard work, I will have helped and inspired others to do the same.
It was two days until the first game of my last high school football season. My team and I were going to play Bayfield, a battle we had persistently prepared for since the last game of our junior year. The sun was beating on my pads, radiating the heat to make practice seem even worse. I was exhausted and looking forward to the end of my last sweat poring practice for the week. Our team was repetitively executing plays to make sure they were like second nature to us on Friday.
I have personally gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from all of my own little mishaps, and a few major ones. One instance of a failure that taught me well was when I tried to find a quick solution to boiling eggs. I was so tired of what I considered the long process of boiling eggs that I formulated a more imaginative way to cook them. I gathered my eggs in a large glass mixing bowl, poured water on top of them, and popped the bowl in the microwave. I set the appliance on for about 10 minutes, and then left the kitchen so the eggs could be nuked while I finished my other chores.
Bone breaks are caused by trauma which is caused by a fall or an accident. It can also be caused by osteoporosis which is the thinning and weakening on the bone tissue. This would cause bone breaks as the weak bone will not be able to absorb any impact which would result in bone breaks. (Parker, 2005) The final common cause of bone breaks is overuse of the bone. This is the repeated motion of the limb which can tire the muscles surrounding the bone which will then put more force on the bone during motion such as exercise. This will result in stress fractures. (OrthoInfo, 1995)
During the beginning of the season, one of the football players was running a route and jumped to catch a football and landed awkwardly. My preceptor and I immediately
Accidents happen all the time whether we know it or not. Some could possibly be avoided and others may not. I was a young girl, who didn’t truly grasp the concept of life and death. Every time I was upset about something, I would think about ending my own life. However, through one horrifying incident, that silly thought of mine completely vanished. Thanks to that specific mishap, the way I perceived life and death has in turn, changed entirely anew.
