Scholarship is not the only pillar that I have achieved. I also possess Leadership, Character, and Service that make me a well rounded individual. Leadership is one of the qualities that I have strengthened over the years because I have put myself out there and gotten involved in a variety of things. I have also developed my character over the years I have been in high school. Lastly, I put myself out there because one person can help to change the world that we live in. Developing myself as a person over the past few years has helped me move forward to satisfy the other three pillars. For instance, leadership is one of the qualities that I have acquired over the years because I have put myself out into the world. As a freshman, I had the initiative to step up in my church so the children could have something to look forward in the summer. We were lacking Crew Leaders for Vacation Bible School so I talked to the coordinator and decided to dedicate part of my summer being a leader and role model to children. As a church, we plan a Sonrise service every year right before Easter that gets presented to the congregation on …show more content…
Easter Sunday. The past two years I have been one of the head people in the committee for planning the service that the youth presents. Every Sunday we have a section of our service that is accessible for the children. Every few months I decided that I was going to be in charge of the sermon that is given to the children. Not only am I well-rounded in leadership, I also have a well-balanced character. Another way I satisfy the pillars is by developing my character during the three years I have attended high school.
During my Freshman year I was asked by the majorette coach to join their unit because they needed the extra help. Being that I am a reliable person, I decided to help them with their show. I am also a trustworthy person when it comes to everything. This past summer my neighbors were on vacation, so they trusted me to take care of their home and mow the lawn. When our new pastor came to our church I wanted to help them in any possible way that I could because moving is a long and strenuous process. I wanted to be a dependable person so I put myself out there and helped to watch their son, which I have done for them multiple times. The shaping of my character has been influenced by the community service that I have gotten involved
in. Finally, putting myself out in the world to help me become an influential person all around. In the summer of 2014 my church traveled to this farm that builds ramps and makes medical kits for those in need. That day, I helped assemble over 100 medical kits for countries that have been hit by tragedies and build 2 ramps for handicapped people. Just last year, our youth leader had an amazing idea that took off, which was to collect coats for children in need. The day that we decided to hand out these coats, over 200 coats were given to children just in our community. Being on the cross country team, our coach always makes an effort to give back to our community because they are so gracious to us during our season. To give back to the community I participated in the Crop Walk, which is a walk that raises awareness for the hungry. The service I have done is only a fraction of the experience I have to offer. Due to the activities and different things I have gotten involved in, they have helped me become a well rounded individual and satisfy the three other pillars besides Scholarship. Putting myself out there is what has led to me to build up my leadership ability over the years. Applying myself in different ways has also contributed to me establishing a character that will be used to benefit others. Finally, the service that I have gotten myself involved in has helped those in our community and across the globe. After viewing my essay I hope that I have met the needs to be accepted into the National Honors Society.
If I can turn back in time, I would advise my young self to join the Kaiser Permanente volunteering program sooner and to skip the small conversations in meetings. Those talks may seem necessary for the first few times, but this communication method can become meaningless since people do not interact on a personal level. Joining the program had supported me by allowing me to associate with various friends through teamwork and encouraged me to thrive beyond my comfort zone.
The four pillars are the backbones for the National Honor Society. Scholarship, leadership, service, and character all come together to form the standard of a National Honor Society member. Each pillar has its own importance, and the pillar of character is perhaps the most vital when determining the membership of the National Honor Society. Character in my words is when a person is a citizen, along with being caring, respectful, and responsible. I display character in a variety of fashions, which touch base up the four qualities of a character.
How will you contribute to the mission of the National Health Service Corps in providing care to underserved communities?
Essay 1: How will you contribute to the mission of the Nurse Corps scholarship program in providing care to underserved communities?
Leadership, Character, Service, Citizenship. When I think of the NHS, leadership, character, community, and role modeling are all things that come to mind. Being a part of the National Honor Society will help me do just that. I have worked hard for outstanding grades, citizenship, and becoming a leader and role model for other classmates.
Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are four attributes that define an excellent student. Being in high school, it’s difficult at times to be a leader, show your character, and be involved with voluntary services while being focused on scholarship, but I have managed to do all four numerous times. I am so grateful and excited to have the chance to be a part of the National Honors Society.
The NHS was then finalised during 1948, the main role of the NHS was to reduce health inequalities throughout Britain, so that everyone could be treated the same way, whatever their finance stability, job status and location. They believed that this programme should have reduced inequalities throughout Britain. It was created by Aneurin Bevan and Edwin Chadwick but it was successful until the Prime Minister at the time who was Margaret Thatcher accepted the Bill through Parliament. The NHS included the Public Health Acts such as maternal and child welfare, availability for beds in hospitals and General Doctors in local areas. The NHS also included things such as Vaccinations and Immunisations and social work skills such as home helps and also
I have always considered myself a very promising student. I have worked extremely hard and received high grades. I have a close knit group of friends and my teachers and I have mutual respect for each other .Although I would consider myself at this present stage ‘fulfilled’ something was missing. I realized it wasn’t a materialistic aspect of my life. Through a tragic incident I finally discovered what fit perfectly in that vacancy. The consecutive hospitalizations of my grandparents evoked great pain and sorrow. However, out of the scorching intensity of this tragedy I was warmed and comforted by realizing what I was devoid of: community service.
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people. Keeping my commitments is crucial to me, because I am a woman of my word. I think this is a good trait in leadership, because people need to be able to count on the person that they look up to. Optimism is also something I value. I belie...
In the Health Scholar Program, I will dedicate not only my time but my goal of becoming a part of the healthcare system throughout the time of service. Helping patients is my first priority as a Health Scholar. However, if I, and other health professionals, have available time I’m also looking forward to participating in various fields of medicine as a Health Scholar. As a prospective healthcare worker, I will utilize my time in the hospital to learn proper ways of assisting patients, both for their physical and emotional needs. Before having direct contact with patients, the 30-hour training before the start of the program is essential for us to become better caretakers.
First off, I would like to say again, thank you for nominating me as a possible recipient for this scholarship. I do not think I have ever been recognized for my academic achievements throughout my entire school career. I never was really focused and determined to learn before like I am now. So just the nomination is an honor, no matter if I receive the scholarship or not. Thank you for the recognition. It truly made my day.
The impact of my contributions in a servant leadership role, will show the results of me standing on my personal faith and beliefs. My convictions are very strong. I want my students to have just as faith in me as they do in themselves. The impact of courage, hopefully teaches them to have integrity and humility.
There were many instances in my life that have shaped my values, intellect, and academic or career goals. I was raised by my parents to become a hard worker, independent, and caring young adult. I was taught how to be all these qualities by a combination of experiencing and witnessing them first hand.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
