Professional codes of ethics are written to govern the conduct of members and give professional affiliations to organizations who adopt and accepted standard of conduct, and ethical best practices. ACA, APA, NASW and NAADAC provided guidance and administration for its member. The organizations have code of ethics to reduce the liability of its members. Each organization reviews ethical complaints by consulting their Code of Ethics and standard Code of Conduct. The organizations have lobbyist that track federal and state legislative decisions that can impact the organizations and their members. Ethics are constantly evolving to ensure that the highest and best practices are adhered to.

The APA Code of Ethics is the most controversial because the APA has taken a clear stance against conversion therapy and the APA has been implicated in helping the Central Intelligence Agency to continue enhanced interrogation techniques. There are lots of similarities in each organizations code of ethics. The ethics are designed to govern decision-making, govern actions and represent common ways to self-regualte conduct. Counselors accept the Code of Ethics as a Constitution that that outline a set of principles that define actions when faced with ethical dilemmas or debatable situations.
All the Codes of Ethics outline specific behaviors that are required or rejected as a condition of ongoing practice. Codes of Ethics have helped some companies dig themselves out of scandals and have helped others build and maintain a solid reputation.

It is important as a professional health care provider to have guidelines, regulations, and ethical standards to obey when providing care to the public. The ACA is to improve the quality of professional counselors in the community with education, knowledge, and guidelines by providing an ACA Code of Ethics standard when delivering treatment toward a clientele (American Counseling Association, 2015). Dunkin Donuts is a food establishment well-known for their famous donuts, coffee and their slogan “America runs on Dunkin”. Without a code of ethics, the industry would most likely be extremely hard to control.
This code of ethics basically explaining what is and is not alright within the work place. So this would be meaning that each individual person would not even be able to choose their own ethics, they are basically given to them from the start. However, this is not always the case within the work force. Even with these professional code of ethics, people are often still put into situations where they have to make a hard choice that is based on their current knowledge. Often this choice comes down to whether you should be honest or dishonest.
