SharePoint is a business collaboration platform developed by Microsoft. It enables employees, project teams and businesses to effectively create and manage collaborative intranet websites to facilitate the sharing of information (Microsoft). The Georgia State University (GSU), CIS capstone project team has been assigned to the Georgia-Pacific, LLC (GP) department of Enterprise Systems & Services, the site owner of the myIT SharePoint site, which is the focus of the CIS capstone project.
The myIT SharePoint site according to GP is the center of information sharing and collaboration for its IT employees. In addition, the site provides enterprise wide IT content and knowledge sharing on a wide variety of IT topics. However, the site has become dated and ineffective in enabling end users to find timely and relevant business content.
To validate the points raised by GP and effectively develop a solution for the myIT site the GSU project team conducted a series of end user interviews to determine the current state of the site. The results of these interviews showed that the myIT actually hampered collaboration among end users. The lack of organization of the site’s content and navigation methods made SharePoint’s search capabilities less effective. Moreover, end users wanted the myIT site to facilitate a sense of community within the IT division and champion their achievements within GP.
To address the issues raised by end users and the expectations of the myIT site administrators the GSU project team recommends that the myIT site be redesigned. Content displayed on the site should use current web development practices e.g. the use of tabbed pages to control the amount of content displayed moreover, the use of SharePoint list...

The transition from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 ushered in major paradigms shifts in the software industry. Software evolved from being a licensed product to being a subscribed web service. Development efforts slid from the tight control of specialists, for example systems analysts and programmers, towards a collaborative project between end users and technology experts. Learners are now required to teach themselves and teachers are there to facilitate the learning process. The dissemination of knowledge and wisdom would gravitate away from the puritanical filters of rigorous scholastic scrutiny towards a mashed-up crowd sourced assembly such as Wikipedia. Personal websites would now encompass a social networki...

Using UX to build user confidence doesn't just encourage users to become frequent visitors and customers of the interface but also gives them the confidence to recommend the system to others. Regardless of the features, a difficult to use site will never be the go to recommendation for anyone other than hardcore users. Use UX design to ensure both seasoned and new users feel comfortable in their ability to gather inf...
The website is very organized and has important features to provide information “accessible, usable and relevant to a variety of people in a variety of settings” as Gurak and Lannon pointed out. (Gurak & Lannon, 2007, p.4).
Because mwi.com lives in a hosted environment, the corporate website frequently appears offline to our customers and employees alike. Server resources within the shared environment are not always available for the mwi.com website but for other websites living within the shared environment. Making the move to bring the website home and host it on a Server 2012 server, Micro Widgets, Incorporated can take advantage of the fact that “Windows Server 2012 offers a high-density, highly scalable environment that can be modified to perform at the optimum level based on the needs of the business” (Secura, 2013). Once moved, mwi.com will live in an environment where server resources will exist solely to support mwi.com.
My interest in the field of information management was triggered when I began developing small projects. As a group, we designed and developed a few mid-term projects in third year of engineering – a banking system portal, a website for my college, and a training and placement office software. I was the lead in developing a hotel management system, which was awarded the “Best Project” prize at the intra college project competition. These projects made
Today, content management system is at the center of the internet and controls almost all web site creation processes. Present internet experts and web creating experts depend on content management system to “lower the barriers to entry and make it easier to launch a site, keep it updated and get more out of it” (Miller, 2012). This means that content management system is being used to do away with impediments that made the accessibility to websites more difficult in times past. It is also being used to make the ownership and maintenance of websites more free flowing and...

Working for a company where the single most paramount objective is to maintain the networks of other organizations makes it clear that management expects not only technology but cutting edge technology and cutting edge leadership to improve business. The company’s current technology is indeed meeting business needs everyday with its processes, systems, distribution of data, database management, telecommunications, and digital electronics. The Information Technology (IT) industry is one that is becoming increasingly important in the global economy and globalized world. Management in most companies expects technology to improve production, innovation, effective and efficient decision making, critical thinking, as well as its competitive advantage. Information Technology has been the one of the most evolved forms of communication for the last century. It never gets old and continues to amaze us on how much more we can communicate with one another and intertwine into other users lives. The business world has benefited immensely with the exploration of making daily task simpler and reaching more users. Information Technology is a catch 22, it brings forth so much beauty with its innovative ways but, causes so much pain to the traditional relationships once used by humans.
The internet started in the mid 90’s and it gave companies a new way to conduct business globally and effort to keep up with the competitive nature of business. Companies were not perfect when they first started using the internet to create business through websites. According to (Laudon, 2006), companies had issues designing and developing a Website to determine fair e-mail policy for employees (para. 11). One of the major flaws the companies were experiencing is thinking they can put anything up as a Website and expecting to be successful. The business firms would failed to focus on the internal processes and changes needed to conduct business successfully for the customers. For instance, developing a software program for communication and cyberspace for their valued customers. These were so...
