The growth and advances in information system technology nowadays have lead to the sharing of data and information in variety of digital or electronic form such as newspaper online, e-journal, video, images and many more. This happens because of the existence internet and technology that used by almost everyone around the world. The technology makes it possible for people to access valuable information through millions of websites that have been produced by people who are willing or intend to share the knowledge. The technology also allows people to communicate with one another by sharing the digital information through email, instant messaging or in social networking medium.
According to the Diane H. Sonnenwald, information sharing includes

They can retrieve the information that they want in internet where the information at internet usually are accessible and have a multiple format. Additionally, the significance of sharing digital information allows users to get comprehensive information that are including everything. As example, in order to people know any latest news or update about what happens in the world, they can access to the newspaper online, which include the information or news for the worldwide. This sharing information somehow facilitates people to obtain information in a simple …show more content…
This is happen because too much digital information available at internet. This can be seen when user use search engines such as Google, where frequently the information that user want will produce lots of result in less than one second. Sometimes, there are difficult to categorizes the accurate and precise information that needed by user where they need to go page by page in order to retrieve the right information. Consequently, information overload will become a challenge in sharing digital information as the efficiency of sharing information will turn to confusion and require more time. In fact, with the larger volume of digital information, finding the right material for a specific task becomes increasingly difficult. Besides the amount of information available to people is growing rapidly, as everyone always deal with information in their lives. For example, nowadays people can just paying their bill through internet and there are mobile banking available which is this quite helpful for the community itself. Obviously, this means that people have to deal with more and more information in their everyday life. It is therefore not surprising that many people have experienced what is commonly referred to as information overload. To illustrate, information is not only about receiving, but also about sending it out where emails are meant to be replied
The internet designed for the purpose of sharing information. Never before in history has it been so simple to send information from one place to another. While it was originally designed for storing information within large corporations, the internet today is used as an information highway. Due to this, things like music and movies can be shared very quickly via the internet. Property of one person can be shared quickly and efficiently. While there are many things to be gained from this, unfortunately it puts the manufacturers of this digital information at a disadvantage.

In conclusion, inappropriate information by electronic media, lack of coherence in information and abundance of information are the three factors which make people preoccupied with bits of fragmented information. Today, too much information, whether it is useless or useful, is given by the contemporary technology. However, every man does not have enough time to know everything. Hence, they try to get small pieces of factual information and try to present them to others. As a result, the overall perspective of that issue is not being understood by them.
The Internet has created a generation of the most efficient multi-taskers ever born. Many people will have at least four tabs open as a time (Google, Facebook, Youtube, Pandora, Wikipedia, Gmail, etc.). People are constantly jumping from one web page to the next, clicking on links and opening new tabs and browsers. The method through which knowledge is gained has transitioned from deep reading to fast skimming. Every time a web page is opened the viewer is bombarded with information, almost every page has advertisements or links to additional information lining its sides. The Internet has made mountains of information available to almost anyone. It is fast and easy to find information and facts. Essentially the Internet has become the fast food of knowledge. It is convenient but it skips the element of effort.
The "pervasive, invasive information infrastructure...is as much a part of our lives as religion was for medieval surfs" (Tetzeli 1994, p. 60). But is it too much? We've all seen the mind-numbing statistics about the exponential growth of information and of technological means of distributing and accessing it. However, some people question whether the problem really is one of overload. One source of the problem is actually the multiplicity of communication channels. Unlike earlier eras, such as when printing presses replaced manuscript copying, new technologies are not replacing older ones but are adding to the host of media choices (Davidson 1996). With these multiple channels the information flow is now simultaneous and multidirectional. However, most traditional information management practices are too linear and specific: they were pipes developed for a stream, not an ocean (Alesandrini 1992). The sheer quantity of information and the speed with which it can be acquired give an illusion of accomplishment (Uline 1996).
Since the very beginning of the Information Age, life in the world and post societies have been described as a constant stream of ever changing products, unprecedented methods of production and dynamic means of distribution. The development of the world wide web, for example, is a major breakthrough in the advance of communication. Today, the World Wide Web has become a huge cultural movement including millions of people. The world of information that we now live in has already altered and changed many different aspects of our lives, both directly or indirectly.
This chapter reviews the literature on Information Overload according to different Definitions, view of some critics, effects (physiologically and psychologically) of this phenomenon. It also reviews the current scenario of Information Overload through the Internet. Finally in the end it is concluded that due to the emergence and advancement in the ever increasing Information Overload it will be useful to study the impact of its extend on one of the most important sectors of the society i.e. students.
The Internet’s influence on our lives has spread throughout. According a 2009 US Census survey 74% of Americans use the internet and have access within their household.A number that has increased every year since 1990 and will sure grow in the future. In this survey they relieved that they did various activities on the internet including social media, (Facebook and Twitter) researching and reading news articles, watching YouTube videos, shopping and so much more all can be done with a computer or Internet enabled phone. With this ease of use and convenience it casts a shadow upon the future of printed and broadcast information. The Web’s instant and vast knowledge bank has changed ...
The influence of the computer technology is mainly manifested on the internet in daily lives. In the 20th century, mass media went through network improvements around the world. Information technology, digital and networked information communication has brought human free, convenience and interaction. The wide application of information technology improves the working efficiency. It not only helps individuals to get relaxed, but also extend the circle of friends; however, this can be problematic for some individuals as well. Improvement in computer technology may lead to over dependence on the computer, social deficit and changes of communication.
Days, months, and years go by and we do not notice them. Living in such a busy world, we are not always aware of the changes in our lives. Twenty years ago, if someone was told we would be able to buy groceries, pay our bills, buy stocks or even a car through the use of a computer, we might have laughed and blamed too much science fiction television for such wild accusations. However, as the next generation of children grows up, they may find it funny that people still send letters to each other through the post office. The development of the Internet has given us the ability to communicate and exchange information instantly across vast distances. The Internet has caused a huge impact in the communication field, and has made our way of living and working a lot easier, faster, and cheaper than before.
Overall the content on internet is most often a benefit to society but people need to think before posting online. Technologies has changed over the past few decades and keeping up with internet and storage is not a simple task. Also, privacy is becoming a major concern for people as content on the internet expands and social sites grow. In addition, controlling content is not easy and one should conceder all applications before they decide to post online. Despite the disadvantages of internets emerging technology, the benefits to today’s society are still greater and we still have time to fix the issue before it becomes to late.
The Internet is one of the greatest inventions of humanity. It is a massive network of computers, each with the ability to access any of the others. Ungodly amounts of information can be found on the Internet. It is the ultimate form of media, a combination of newspaper, radio, and as the average bandwidth is increasing, television. Using
The internet has influenced, and is still influencing the way society communicates in many different ways. Education has been revolutionized through the world of the “Information Super Highway”. Medicine has also seen reform as the internet improves research and communication. Individuals are starting businesses from scratch, while others are selling household items for extra cash. This internet “typhoon” sweeping the globe has become a way of life for many individuals all across the globe.
The mass media include television, radio, movies, videos, CDs, audio tapes, the Internet, newspapers, magazines and books. The fastest growing medium is the Internet. The Internet is as a social system. (Eighmey and McCord, 1998).
