This unit has enabled me to become better acquainted with my writing processes. I now understand that the majority of my writing I use the prewriting strategy of brainstorming to varying degrees depending on what my writing genre is. When my genre is an email at work I compose the email by brainstorming the subject in my head and then typing my ideas directly in the body of the email. I then revise those ideas, usually multiple times, to make sure that my message is easily read and understandable. In essence, I go from my informal brainstorming draft to final draft with no intervening steps. This process is short and takes little time from start to finish, which mirrors the fast pace of the workplace. The brainstorming process I use for the
Putting revision into context, Harris begins by addressing the 3 stages of writing: drafting, revising, and editing (Harris 443). To best exemplify the drafting process, Harris uses an excerpt from Stephen King’s book, Misery, to extract three tips that aid in formulating a draft: seize hold of any passing ideas, utilize patience and boredom for coming up with ideas, and work through writer's blocks rather than rely on sudden inspiration (Harris 444).
The process of writing papers can be very frustrating. You must first get your ideas together. Getting your ideas together can be one of the hardest parts of writing because you could possibly not know what di...
Writing is a process I’ve grown to despise. Ever since grade school, I’ve had problems trying to express my ideas on paper. My writing process involves thinking about what’s being asked and trying to reflect my thoughts the best way I can on paper, but my thoughts don’t always come out as clear as I want them to be sometimes leaving a question not fully answered. My writing process isn’t a consistent set in stone process, but since being in ENC 1101 I always follow some of the same parameters such as revising my drafts, grammar usage and considering context and audience.
Unit 1 taught me to focus on each step in the writing process. Approaching the task
Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Anne Lamott, Shirley Rose, and Kathleen Yancey all drew attention to major points through their writing pieces that support and dispute my writing process. Through their pieces they have found a way to inspire, inform, and entertain me all at the same time while passing along great information that
Writing can be a very difficult process for those who do not know how to go about constructing
Foundations of Writing is said to be one of, if not the most, difficult classes offered in the high school. I have thought about why I am taking the class multiple times. I have quite a few struggles when it comes to writing but I also have many strengths. I believe my writing skills can be improved and I can grow tremendously as a writer by taking this class. Good writing is something that is achieved by working hard and practicing a lot.
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
The planning phase includes different steps. Those steps would include: discovering a subject, narrowing the subject to a topic, researching the topic, writing a thesis, and developing an outline. Additionally, there is the writing phase. The writing phase will be the first writing to be revised, corrected, and retyped. This format is called a draft, and any other version would also be called a draft. The other names for these drafts are second draft, revised draft, and final draft. The writing process has a step by process which is drafting, revising, receiving back, and rewriting. However, one should know that when using a computer, it is easy to just fix little things and continuing editing it, which really is not a new draft. According to Survival, “For the sake of definition, therefore, you can say that a draft is produced each time you actually print a new version of your paper or retype it or write it over with pen or pencil.” First draft procedures are simple. First one needs to acquire a quiet place to sit, rather it be
Writing for me has always been a difficult task, mainly because I have never been good with words or how to begin writing my thoughts on paper. Writing essays have been one of my biggest horrors as a student. High school, English class prepared me for the basic editing of my essays, for example, spelling, font errors and basic grammar. This semester, I realized that the writing process requires more than just editing. I can certainly say that I have improved as a writer a great deal. English 102 was absolutely different from my other English classes; we actually focused on different types of writing style with the same topic uniquely. All assignments got me to think outside of the box and develop critical thinking skills. Furthermore, was
I chose my project of writing a newspaper from Verona because I wanted to learn and improve on the type of writing style that is most commonly used in this type of informational writing. Due to the fact that my normal writing style is really different than the one that I chose to write in. I did that because I know that one of my weaknesses in writing is that I tend to be really bad when trying to mimic another writing style and I wish to improve on that, also that when I usually write I have a lot of unnecessary information and long winded sentences. Which I wanted to also try and improve on. Another reason why I chose this project is that I would like to have a career that involves writing and English in one aspect or another. Writing is also something that I like to do and a very important skill in my everyday life. Considering that I wanted to get as much experience in writing as I could and

Writing is very important because the method that we are using to get you through the writing techniques my strategy can relate to this week’s reading critical reading and thinking can be very helpful to me also critical reading helps to gather my thoughts together advantages of free-writing is useful when you simply have no idea what to write about it will help you find a topic to be free association. The disadvantages of free writing can be tiring when you feel free to list or cluster ideas to save time . to improve my pre-writing techniques i should be able to learn everything with prewriting to use those
Note writing facilitates the learning process between students and instructors in the online environment. According to Qui, Hewitt, and Brett (2012), class size is one aspect that effects note writing and note reading in the online course environment. Unlike traditional face-to-face classes, online classes are conducted through text and influences the students note writing behavior (Qui et al., 2012). The authors contend that classes too large, create situations in which students are overloaded by having to read more notes and in turn, this affects not only the writing process but the quantity and the quality of writing styles. Students wrote more notes as the classes increased and consequently, the quality of the notes reduced. On the other hand, classes that are too small
I have accomplished numerous things throughout this semester that have provided me a structural basis for important writing processes. We have learned many things throughout he semester that have helped me become the writer I am today. These particular activities have helped me practice my writing processes, from drafting, revising, and editing to providing emphasis and clarity for learning, communicating, and critical evaluation.
When truly considered, the expression “as plain as black and white” doesn’t make all that much sense. In a truly meaningful piece of writing, one can easily find much more than just the words on the page. Aside from the story being told directly, a part of the author can manifest between the lines of a story. Everyday delivers a reminder of this to me by my fellow creative writing students. Every person in the class varies immensely, from personal lives, to writing styles, to personality. The differences truly become obvious when fourteen unique variations of the same assignment are handed in.
