College Decision Nearing the end of my high school days, I had a huge decision on my mind. Where should I start the next chapter? The college search wasn’t the easiest thing to do. On top of finishing up my senior track season and keeping up with schoolwork, I had to choose where I wanted to continue my academic and athletic career. After numerous visits I narrowed my visit down to two schools. Charleston Southern University and Edinboro University. A lot to think about as a 17 year old, but with being able to trust myself to make the right choice, having great coaching staffs, and support from friends and family I was able to find a place for me! My first visit to Edinboro was just a day visit with the head cross country coach, Ryan Foster. …show more content…
Getting the opportunity to compete at the Division I level has always been the dream as a kid and was very appealing. Coach Stintzi the head cross country and assistant track & field coach reached out to me with the opportunity to compete at this level. He was a more experienced coach than coach foster at edinboro. Coaching high caliber teams in the past like Michigan State and Wisconsin University. Leading them to Big 10 titles and even being named Big 10 coach of the year. Two years after coaching these universities he found himself at charleston southern. A small division I school that he wishes to turn into a high caliber team. Personally it was something I would love to be apart of. This is what put Charleston Southern up with Edinboro for my top 2 schools. As I ended my day at charleston southern I had plenty to consider. I was 13 hours away from home, and as a senior in highschool I wasn't quite sure if I could handle it. The next day I met the team and went on a run with them. They were really cool and fun to be around. The campus was really nice and there was beautiful places to run. As the day went on I had a planned dinner with coach stintzi which was really assuring because the future looked bright as we talked through our meal. He really made me feel like I could be apart of something special. The night ended and I was set to leave the next morning. The 13 hour drive gave me plenty of time to talk with my parents and to go through my options on where I would end
Graduating from high school is a huge achievement. Senior year is when all the important decisions had to be made, including whether to attend college or not. The next major choice I had to make as a high school student was selecting a college to attend. There are a variety of factors that finfluenced the final decision. Some of these factors included financial aid, reputation , college experience and college size. Choosing acceptance to Case Western Reserve University was a better choice compared to The Ohio State University.
In my own college search, Franklin College, the University of Louisville, and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis seem to stand out among the others. While Franklin College is private, the University of Louisville and IUPUI are both public universities. Each school has its own advantages and disadvantages, but when comparing the
I arrived at practice on time and that is when all of the running started. For what seemed like hours, we only sprinted down and back on the dek, until finally, it was over. All practices were like that though, and after a while, I was getting used to it. As for the people, the coaches were nice enough, and I met some of my best friends there. Michael, Julian, Marco, and Tyler were the first people who talked to me. I was still playing with Bill’s for local tournaments, but I was traveling with Penn Hills to places like New Jersey and Canada. Then one day, problems started arising. I was practicing with Penn Hills, preparing for a tournament in New Jersey, instead of going to Bill’s, and they started cutting my playing time. At that point I had to make a decision; Penn Hills, or Bill’s. I chose Penn Hills, and I do not regret it for a second. Later that season, we traveled to the New Jersey tournament and had a blast. In the hotel at night we would swim, play basketball, and relax in Michael’s room, only getting in a little bit of trouble.
College basketball coach has been the career of my choice, there is a multitude of reasons for this. I have loved this sport since I was four years old and ever since then I have always pictured myself being a part of this sport when the moments are at it’s brightest when the NCAA tournament kicks off. For years I have followed this sport very closely watching as many games a possible with listening to Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas, Bill Raftery, and Gus Johnson loses their minds calling college basketball games. This game is all about having a passion for basketball and life-giving you're all to this sport having extreme dedication. I will be able to chase championships and more importantly, I will leave a lasting impact on the people I coach and
The job comes with a low budget for recruiting, so the coach, Don Haskins, had to get creative when recruiting. As Coach Haskins
I spent much of my high school career researching colleges and universities. My mom and I traveled to well over 10 different colleges and universities in 4 different states trying to find the “perfect” school for me. By the end of my junior year of high school I had finally found the ideal school, or so I thought. The school was small, environmentally friendly, new, beautiful, diverse, and just happened to be located 1,000 miles away from home. Everyone at my small high school knew that I was going away to school and it was a huge deal because the majority of my classmates were going to in state schools. I traveled to the school multiple times for orientations, to meet my roommates, and to make sure it was the “perfect” school for me. Early May of my senior year of high school, right before graduation, I woke up with a feeling in my gut that this
Growing up I was extremely blessed having an incredible coach at every level of sport I participated in. From those experiences I know how much a coach can make a difference in your life. For that reason my dream job is coaching college basketball at any division. It does not matter to me what level, because kids at the D-3 level need just as much guidance and help as student athletes at the D-1 level. During my coaching career I hope to blend two leadership styles in particular together in order to make my athletes better men, but also to keep the game they love fun to play. I feel by taking the Charismatic Leadership style’s enthusiasm and loyalty and mixing it with a Transformational Leaders innovation and emphasis on change, I can be an extremely effective and power leader for my student athletes.
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
But not everything was bad. He was still there waiting for me when I got home, we still talked for hours on end, and we continued loving each other even more so than before. This time, it would be 10 long months until we met again. But it was worth it. Every single second with him is worth it.
Many people say that I am most famous because of my coaching. I was the head coach at Iowa from 1976 to 1997. Over that span, I led the Hawkeyes to fifteen NCAA team championships and twenty-one straight Big Ten titles. Furthermore, a great example of my impact on a young man is a story about a wrestler named Barry Davis. Barry was very tired of cutting weight all year, and was missing the day of a dual.
I’ve just entered my senior year of high school. I know that this is a very important year. I have a lot of decisions to make and not much time to make them. These decisions will either make or break my life, and I want to make sure that I make them to the best of my ability because there is no turning back. I need to make sure I definitely want to attend college. The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives of attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better then anyone else, and I won’t let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I will want to do, to succeed in. Choosing a major can be a very stressful situation so why not sit down and take some time to do it? Be creative, don’t rush, give yourself plenty of time and really think about what interests you in life. My major is something that I will want to enjoy, something that I will be doing for the rest of my life. Why would I want to be miserable at something I do in life? In two short essays: “College? What’s in It for me?” by Steven M. Richardson, and “What It Means to Be Creative”, by S.I. Hayakawa, I can relate to my major very well. Athletic Training is something that takes skill, as well as being creative in your own way. No two Athletic Trainers are the same. The more creative I am at whatever I do, the better off I will be. I hold the keys to all the doors that can ...
The first time I visited The University of Florida I learned what the phrase “home away from home” really meant. The moment I stepped foot on the campus I fell in love. I was awestruck by the lush green atmosphere, the kind and friendly faces, the immense amount of academic opportunities and achievements the university prides itself on, but most of all I fell in love with the tremendous amount of school spirit. At the University of Florida I plan on furthering my academic achievements, getting involved and asserting myself in the community, and displaying my school spirit and pride. This is my time to shine, to bring forth all that I have to offer.
My entire history of education can easily be viewed as a rollercoaster. Growing up I had moved around the school district a few times, figuring out which school fit me best. When it came to college all I could imagine was playing sports, I relatively shut my brain off to everything that did not have to do with sports or getting high grades. Hearing that Washington State University wanted me on their rowing team was one of the greatest days of my life. I loved rowing, I had always done it, I did not really know life without it. I traveled to Pullman one weekend in the later winter months of my senior year to test out the program, and it was everything I had hoped for and more. I was inspired by the coaches and their determination to better my skills, and I was infatuated with the team. I mean these girls could easily be related to me, we were so similar in every way. I felt at home.
must stick with it. A cabinet could be opened at home and a variety of tasty
Circumstances can tremendously impact our decisions, ranging from the small quotidian ones to those that affect our lives permanently. Deciding what college to attend is no exception to this dilemma. Originally, I had committed to UIUC convinced that “going away” was the only way to completely fulfill my college experience. However, I’ve come to realize that there’s much more that must be considered when choosing my home for the next four years. I consider myself to be an individual that values stability, especially when making those big decisions like choosing the right college.
