Making a life plan is like a flight plan and being a pilot. The pilot continuously has to correct for certain conditions that has gotten the plane off course. Without a plan the plane and pilot would be taken by the winds and weather never reaching their destination. (Boss, 2014). Having big dreams are a way for people to set life goals for themselves and point them into the right direction. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a doctor. I always knew I was going to be in the medical field. Although my plan is not to become a doctor, my dreams put me in the direction I needed and led me to want to become a Physician’s Assistant.

Goals are important in determining what direction you want to go in life. Short-term goals are goals that you want to have finished by the time you’re done with college or in five years. (Boss, 2014) “It is also useful to set goals to which one can strongly commit because such goals (intentions) have a better chance of being attained” (Oettingen, Gollwitzer, 2001). One of my short term goals consist of completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science and maintaining above a 3.5 GPA. Also, I need to take a GRE test to get into graduate school. We just bought a house a year ago; before we moved in we made some renovations to the house, but did not have the time or finances to do all of it at once, so another short term goal of mine is renovating my master bathroom and kitchen. When it comes to long term goals, I have determined that the best investment is education. I feel that you should learn something new every day and take it and use the knowledge gained. Other long term goals of mine are to enjoy life and my career, love my family even more than I already do and to learn to be more appreciative of the things that I have and that are around me. After achieving my short term goals and beginning the career of my dreams, I will work to become financially …show more content…
After achieving those short term goals and 5 years into my career, I realized I wanted more. I decided that I wanted to do more than what my scope of practice allowed, so I went back to the drawing board and made another short term goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. According to Dorothy Michno and her article “Setting and Reaching Goals: Gotta Get a Plan”, she states that you should“Consider your goals potentially changeable. Don 't hesitate to add, subtract, or rewrite your goals as you learn more about yourself or have new experiences” (Michno, 1996). In my plan to achieve my short term goals of obtaining a higher education and becoming a Physician Assistant my plan is to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science and take the GRE test before applying to get into a PA program and completing it with a high GPA. AS for my bathroom and kitchen, they are getting worked on slowly between are busy schedules. My plan of action for my long term goals is to achieve the short term goals that I have set for myself. Work as a Physician Assistant and become financially stable. “Willpower researcher Roy Baumeister, PhD, a psychologist at Florida State University, describes three necessary components for achieving objectives: First, he says, you need to establish the motivation for change and set a clear goal. Second, you need to monitor your behavior toward that goal.
Everyone has their own personal values that the gain throughout their lives. Some of these values are passed down through the different generations of their family. Values can change over time and some people learn more values as they grow up. I personally have gained a range of different values in the past eighteen years of my life. My own values include: respect, honesty, empathy and trust. I gained the value of respect through my parents as I was always told to show respect to others and they would then show me respect back. When I was really young I had to respect other people’s things and their feelings. Through my parents I was brought up to believe that it is always better to be honest and tell the truth about everything. I feel that
"A value determines what a person thinks he ought to do, which may or may not be the same as he wants to do, or what is in his interest to, or what in fact he actually does. Values in this sense give rise to general standards and ideal by which we judge our own and others conduct; they also give rise to specific obligations” (CCETSW,
Values vary between different societies; for example a society of musicians would value an individual 's knowledge and skill in music, whereas a society of gamers would value high scores and consoles. Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
Ever since I was little, I have always had very high career goals for myself. My short-term goal was to work hard throughout high school in order to be accepted to a university, which I accomplished by graduating with a 4.0 grade point average. My next step was to do well my freshman year of college at Eastern Michigan University in order to be accepted into their nursing program that is very competitive. I finished my first year of college with a 4.0 grade point average and was accepted into the nursing program. Now that I am in the program, my goal is to continue to do well in my studies by focusing on my courses and spending as much times as possible studying. I ended my first semester of nursing school with all As and one A- giving me an accumulative GPA of 3.98. I would like to graduate at the top of my nursing class, and I believe this is an achievable goal because I am a very driven and hard working person. When I want to achieve something I will do whatever it takes to do so.
A goal I achieved was when I graduated from high school many years ago. I was the first one in my family to graduate from high school. It was a big accomplishment for me and my mom. Graduating was my goal. I wanted to make my mom proud, life happens I couldn't go to college then but I told myself one day I will full field my dream to have a career. I meet my career advisor at a job fair and am here enrolled to be a medical assistant. My new goal is to work real hard to get the best grades I can possibly get and to have perfect attendance at the end off the medical assistant program. Am going use my time wisely, get all my work done in time and ask for help if I don't understand something.
Values remind me of ethics and morals, necessary in any walk of life and imperative in the work place. These concepts are guidelines in which employees need to follow to be successful. “Values represent basic convictions that a specific mode of conduct or end-state of existence is personally or socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end-state of existence.” (Robbins, 136) Integrity, courage, service, wisdom, respect and goal setting are a few of the values that are most crucial to me and what I hope to achieve within any work place setting. Values should be lived every day in the work place and should exemplify the
Goal setting is key in motivation; goals need to be clear, sharp, and realistic. To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.
During everyone 's lifetime, there is always something we hold closest to our hearts; it maybe our principles we live by, values, and even our own beliefs. Values are those things that are very important to us but never really realize how much we actually value them in our life. Have you ever been asked to define three of your main values and rip them up? I have and I never noticed how much they meant to me. Each and every one of us believes in our own personal values. These values are what gives us strength and strive us to do what makes us happy. These values are very important to us and are standards that we live by whether we realize it or not. Everyone has something we value including me. Some of the values I might think highly of,
“Values are the beliefs of an individual, group, or organization, in which they are emotionally invested” (Carpenter, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2015). Many organizations consider corporate values strategically import for building their company’s reputation and keeping the customers’ confidence and allegiance. That, however, is only a tiny portion of the strategic benefits that organizational values can offer. “Further benefits include:guidance for decision-making on all levels, selection criterion for new employees, driver for individual and corporate behavior on all levels supporting the vision, mission, and goals of the company, and effective definition and implementation of core values” (Gupta, 2015). Values within a company need to be more than just a few words that sound nice to ensure overall acceptance within an organization. “Effective core values need to be emotionally appealing and workable” (Gupta,
My experience with goal making has always been a rough affair. The goals were not a source of motivation or inspiration for me. Instead the goals were a one-time action and were never to be found again once written down. It is not that I did not want to succeed in my goals or get the satisfaction of completing my goals, it is simply that my goals did not fit my specific needs and were not easy to follow. It is only now that I realize my goals were far from specific and measurable, realistic and challenging, and within a timeframe. Within this framework for goals my goals can become more inspirational to me and become a part of my life rather than a passing event in my life.
Overtime the way people think can make their goals change. When I think of having goals, I think of something that I have always wanted and working hard for it. Having goals can make life easy, but having a plan on how to accomplish those specific goals will make life easier. Due to myself transitioning from high school to college, my goals have recently changed.
Growing up, goals change dramatically. A five-year olds goal is to get the coloring page done. As people go through school, goals obviously change. A freshman’s goal may be to learn the school so he or she doesn’t get lost. Senior’s goals grow to finding where they will spend the next four years or what kind of career they will grow upon. Then, of course goals continue to change as people get older and enter into different stages of life. In this essay, I am going to talk about how my goals in different aspects of my life and how they have transformed, what they are currently, and what they may turn into in the future.
Values are personal; a set of values is what's important to that individual. Values are so important that a person just doesn't feel right when what they are doing is in conflict with a value. Values conflicts can generate high levels of personal stress. There is no right or wrong set of personal values, though there are cultural norms embracing certain values as correct. Your personal code of values are what's important to you; not something you want or would like to have, but something you literally need in your life to be true to yourself. A value is a principle or quality intrinsically valuable or desirable to you. Values are personal. They are your convictions, your beliefs, and your ethics rolled into one.
