During the past few decades, North Carolina dairies have dwindled out and few remain to this day. NC State, like other universities, perform research on different aspects of what their colleges teach to learn more and relate to what is trending now. Not only is the research done on campus, but throughout North Carolina are research stations to record and collect data on what is being researched. My shadowing project was completed in my hometown at NC’s Piedmont Research Station based out of Salisbury, NC. The unit I spent my time at was their dairy, where I shadowed Ms. Kira Andre the Dairy Specialist Assistant Manager. Kira’s job covers a lot of ground when it comes to working at the dairy unit and taking care of the responsibilities that …show more content…
Cow care and working outside are very positive aspects about the job to me because I hope one day I find a career that does not keep me behind a desk all day. Although she does the desk work as well, it’s a happy medium to where if you need to sit down and collect data you can as well as be outside and moving around as well. One negative and positive aspect is being in a managerial position. It may be nice to have authority, but when it comes to being over people that applied for the same position you have now and they are older than you, it can be …show more content…
This experience has helped influence my career goals of understanding that there will not be a perfect career that can cater to where I want to be during the week. Although, if I work hard enough and strive to do better, I may be able to find a great balance between work and home. Kira also showed me that even though she works at a dairy and around cows every day that there are still aspects of professionalism that are effective. Kira has proved herself as an accountable, reliable, and ethical person while she has been working at the research station. These are all very important and prove that no matter where you work, being professional is
The partnership with MTSU allowed the Hatcher’s to test the local market and perfect their processing processes. The Hatcher’s began selling their milk through their newly constructed farm store and local farmers markets. Fortunately, the local market proved favorable. As a result, the Hatcher’s built a milk processing plant on their family farm and began bottling milk there.
Peggy got a part-time job and continued her studies at a local community college. Soon she received a scholarship to a four-year university and enjoyed every moment of it. In the end, Peggy inspired us to take charge of our own future, and not to neglect our work. She taught us that no one else is to blame for the choices we
1. Please briefly share the influences on your decision to pursue the field of medicine, including shadowing experiences and other medical related activities.
Through life, one must make choices in their personal and professional lives in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Through the plays Bull, Waste, Little Eyolf, The Homecoming, and the musical Kinky Boots, it is evident that creating a distinction between one’s personal and one’s professional life is essential to living a healthy life. When one’s personal life and professional life overlap completely, trouble ensues.
I found a job as CNA for the patient who had disabilities. One patient in particular changed the direction of my life and started me thinking about working in medicine. I took care of an older woman who was unable to ambulate due to her diagnosis of stroke. She experienced chronic weakness of bilateral lower extremity so I supported her with my arms to steady her. When I looked into her eyes, I could feel her saying, “you truly care about me, understand me, and thank you for taking the time to sense my expression and desire.” That’s the care all of us have deep inside, where our motives no longer become self-seeking but other-seeking. This care has the power to exponentially change that person’s life and the lives of others. It is true that other patients helped me decide to go into medicine, but Stacy had the biggest impact in my
Effective management and optimization of the feeding process is critical as that effects not only profitability but also has an impact on improved pasture utilization and effective use of supplements. Therefore, beyond established farm feeding methods, there is a need for decision support tools to support farmers to take strategic feeding decisions.

On the edge of campus, past the colorful gardens of the Orfaleea College of Business, beyond the recreation fields covered with students playing Frisbee or catch, and off busy Highland Drive is the unpaved Mt. Bishop Road. Mt. Bishop Road is home to the crops unit, campus orchards, veterinary unit, and the Eugene and Rachel Boone Dairy Science Complex, more familiarly known as the Cal Poly Dairy. Walking through the dairy on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, I am greeted by fifteen or so calves chained to oversized dog houses called “hutches.” Petting them as they attempt to suck on my pants, I look up to see their mothers in the long cages just a few feet away. It is hard to leave the doe eyes of the Jersey calves, but I move on to the rows of enormous Holsteins. It is the late afternoon and their udders are filled to the brim with milk. The weight of ten bowling balls hangs from their bodies making their locomotion slow and awkward. The cow’s milking time is from four to six in the afternoon. Automatic milking systems milk the hundreds of cows quickly and efficiently.
Throughout my final ten weeks at my placement, I have grown and overcome so many obstacles. I have accomplished a wide range of skills since the beginning and have been improving on them as I gained experience. At my placement as a student nurse, I have gained a lot of confidence, skills, knowledge and experiences that have helped me act and work in a professional way. All the experiences I have had during the ten weeks of my student years have helped me in shaping me into a professional.
In 1959, an innovative, groundbreaking, and independent film by the name of Shadows was released. The story follows three African American siblings and their everyday life struggles and pleasures. The movie is the first of its kind. It is able to reach a larger audience, despite not being produced and distributed by Hollywood. The director, John Cassavetes, funded the movie through his previous acting gigs and donations. Financing a movie on one’s own had never been done before. The movie does not have a large budget which attributes to the first indie vibe. Cassavette wanted to create a realistic movie where the audience could relate to the characters. The movie had its flaws, as seen in its out of focus shots and continuity errors, but these imperfections are often overlooked because of the authenticity of the characters. The movie stars the ensemble cast of Ben Carruthers, Lelia Goldoni, and Hugh Hurd. One of the defining elements of this film’s independence is the
I have not been able to have a lot of work experience due to my age, but I have asked my mother how our discussion this week affected her job. “There are three types of connections that foster embeddedness: (1) “links,” (2) “fit,” and (3) “sacrifice.”” (Allen, 2008). My mother experienced the three types of connections that foster “embeddedness” while she was a nurse. She experienced these connections quit a lot during her nursing career. My mother was working as a nurse for thirteen years. Over this time she had made a vast group of close friends and colleagues and was always a very hard worker. Her ethic skills helped her gain relationships with upper management, doctors, other nurses, and many of the other hospital staff. With these connections she experienced “links” everyday, especially meeting new people and having a very open personality with everyone. She believed that the more positive experiences she had with people lead her to more opportunities and getting to know other types of connections.
The experience of working at the hospital has given me a new sense of perception of the world and of the diverse group of people inhabiting its schema. It has also changed how I perceive myself; I learned that all the stereotypes I may have for a group of people will probably be wrong. I also learned more about my own identity, what I still need to work on, and how to manage it as it exists today. “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” JFK
Christen Dawn Blanton, “I find it quite fulfilling. I know that the training and experience gained will allow me to excel in any number of areas.” (IHaveAPlan)
All around Australia, there are eight dairying regions, each with their own conditions and requirements. Dairy Australia set up Regional Development Programs (RDPs) in the 1990s to cater for these varying requirements. While RDPs receive funding and support from Dairy Australia, they are independent entities who act on what’s best for their region. Gippsland, Western Victoria, Murray region, Tasmania, Subtropical, NSW, SA, WA. Dairy farming is very prominent in Queensland, Australia, as the tropical climate and conditions are ideal for producing the best milk for dairy products. The dairy industry is one of Australia’s biggest
It was only natural therefore that I should have opted for a job in the hospitality-industry. Initially I took up a position at the Holiday Inn, and during the course of my service there, an incident happened, that not only brought me a prestigious award, but which is also illustrative of my professionalism and dedication.
