Patients sitting in bed, doctors making their rounds, nurses running from place to place, family coming to see their beloved family members, and the lowly diet aide bringing around some lunch; all of these things can be witnessed at the hospital at which I work. All of these things pile together into the schema of what most people come to call a hospital; working there the typical schema of a hospital has become a whole lot more complex. To start, “A schema is a cognitive framework or concept that helps organize and interpret information.”
To be able to give my perception of the current schema of the hospital, I should share how I came to the conclusions I have today. My first experience in a hospital would be when I was in 4th grade; I was putting up a poster at church, fell, and cracked my head open. My first perception of the nurses at the ER was how calm they were. They never really seemed shocked that there was a kid in front of them with blood running down his face. I think I found that comforting so I never felt uneasy when going back to the hospital. I guess you could say this was a people schema that was in my favor for coming events. My next few experiences at the hospital went about the same; came in looking bloody and covered in dirt, the nurses calmed me down while my mom tried not to pass out, then the doctor looked me over, stitched me up, and sent me home. So my schema before I started working at the hospital encompassed just that; people just always running from room to room helping out the people in need.
That’s actually almost exactly the schema I have now, only with a little more insight into how it all works. I learned what happens behind those curious doors that say “Authorized personnel only”,...

This may be a sign of my own self-denigration that I still need to work on to improve my attitude towards my performance, relationships, and life in general.
The experience of working at the hospital has given me a new sense of perception of the world and of the diverse group of people inhabiting its schema. It has also changed how I perceive myself; I learned that all the stereotypes I may have for a group of people will probably be wrong. I also learned more about my own identity, what I still need to work on, and how to manage it as it exists today. “Change is the law of life. Zuger’s point-by-point organization emphasizes the difference between one medical student with older traditional values, and another medical student who embodies the modern hospital standards. The traditional student is unorganized, stays late, does everything for herself, but truly cares for the patients and their families. On the other side, the modern student is clean and organized, does only what his job describes, works only his hours and nothing more. He works as a team with the rest of the staff, but he doesn’t truly care for the patients. Modern medicine has made leaps and bounds in the field of keeping people alive, but true care of a doctor also helps the patient and their family.

Remember every smile, take pride in every stride towards healthier patients and never forget that a career doesn't have much meaning if you're not happy in it.
The cost of Medical equipment plays a significant role in the delivery of health care. The clinical engineering at Victoria Hospital is an important branch of the hospital team management that are working to strategies ways to improve quality of service and lower cost repairs of equipments. The team members from Biomedical and maintenance engineering’s roles are to ensure utilization of quality equipments such as endoscope and minimize length of repair time. All these issues are a major influence in the hospital’s project cost. For example, Victory hospital, which is located in Canada, is in the process of evaluating different options to decrease cost of its endoscope repair. This equipment is use in the endoscopy department for gastroenterological and surgical procedures. In 1993, 2,500 cases where approximately performed and extensive maintenance of the equipment where needed before and after each of those cases. Despite the appropriate care of the scope, repair requirement where still needed. The total cost of repair that year was $60,000 and the repair services where done by an original equipment manufacturers in Ontario.
For two semesters of my junior year, I interned at Huntsville Hospital, shadowing nurses and technicians in many different areas of the hospital, including the emergency room and cardiovascular units. Oddly enough, I liked giving obese, old patients bed baths, helping them to the bathroom, and cleaning their bed pans. But, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t exactly what I loved doing, but I knew it was part of the job, and I willingly did the dirty work. By the end of my junior year, I knew I loved the hospital environment and wanted to eventually work there; however, I just didn’t know in what capacity.

I had known for years that I wanted to work in the health care field, but I always believed it would be as a doctor. I watched for the first few years of my brother’s life as he struggled with different health challenges such as being born premature, having croup and breathing difficulty, and speech impairment. Watching my brother struggle and then being able to overcome these difficulties, as well as seeing other children around him who were not as fortunate, really pushed me even at a young age to make a difference. My family, both immediate and extended, were very supportive, and I felt a real positive push towards working hard to achieve that goal of working in health care. In high school, I was fortunate enough to do a cooperative placement at the Peterborough Regional Health Center’s Intensive Care Unit. According to Andrews and Boyle (2016), having a diverse workforce provides a greater satisfaction among employees, which will result in higher retention of employees as well. By hiring a diverse culture within an organization this increases a workplaces economy and becomes a culturally competent organization. Otherwise, a high turnover can be very costly to an organization and the functionality can decrease. Many organizations have developed policies to help recruit and retain people from different backgrounds. When employees feel that they are valued because of their diversity, the employees will feel protected from discrimination, feel that there is room for advancement within the company, and increase employment retention (Kaplan, Wiley, & Maertz, 2011). With the increase of minorities across the nation, having diversity in nurses and healthcare workers to accommodate this diversity also improves the quality of care to the patients while also increasing their health outcomes and satisfaction (Ayoola, 2013). We have learned in the previous weeks that being able to communicate with our patient’s and understanding their culture can positively increase the outcome of the health. A hospital is a difficult place to run because there so many aspects to manage. There are many types of doctors and nurses, and so many departments in this type of facility. The patients come in a wide variety of different ailments, needs, colors, sizes, personalities, and beliefs. Not to mention, with all of the equipment, devices, and people coming and going a hospital can seem like a small town in itself. That is why it will take a group effort, open communication, and positive reinforcement to keep it running smoothly. I will address this case study by identifying each problem, advise an adequate solution for each problem, and give a reason for each solution.

When people need surgery, they go to the hospital to get help. There, special tools are used to cut open the patient. When these tools are used they must be one hundred percent clean, of bacteria or any other foreign material. This will ensure the patient doesn’t contract any foreign materials in the body. To clean the tools, they are ran through an autoclave which sterilizes the equipment. The machines use steam, heat and pressure to kill any foreign material on the tools. I’m able to help out with this process by working on the units to make sure they work properly. I inspect these units in hospitals all over Arkansas. During my inspection I look over the unit, replace parts and, and perform test runs. Let me explain my step by step process I take when I examine these machines.
Due to working with people around in the university Colorado hospital, I believe I am equipped, ready, and determined to dedicate my life to this high level of responsibility. The leadership opportunities allowed me to develop and practice certain characteristics required for nursing. In the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit it has trained me to overcome emotional discouragement, be patient, be attentive to others’ needs before my own, be available for others, build and maintain relationships, organize events, and manage my time under a busy schedule. Moreover, knowing the competitiveness and rigor of nursing school, it has motivated me to maintain disciplined study habits to precede my goal to become a nurse. While working in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit for two years, my experience at this hospital became the most rewarding and enjoyable. I want patients to walk out my room feeling like I have made a positive change in their life, whether it is small or big. Responsibility comes with playing such an important role in other people’s lives and it is how I embrace this responsibility that will determine how I change the lives of others. Not only do I want a good relationship with my clients but also with my co-workers because I might be able to make a small difference in someone’s life, but it’s us Health Professionals working together that will make the greatest difference.
I know that even in the most difficult of environments I have the power to show great tenderness and care for those around me, and at the very least help those to see that there can be something positive with everything that can happen to us in this life. The health care profession can sometimes be one of sadness; however I know I can keep my positivity with me throughout the day. I know that I can communicate the things that should be done, and I know that no matter what difficult challenges, I or even my team will face I can help to communicate, and guide us to a happy and successful outcome.
