Business has always run in my family. My father arrived in the US with nothing but a high school and now, he works at Toyota as a Finance Manager. Imagine the career I could have with a business degree. I had thought for a long time about the major I should pursue and I have determined that Accounting is the utmost fitting. Your university will assist my efforts of being successful in the business world. I constantly look for different challenges in life and I believe a shift of scenery would be beneficial. This will assist in separating myself from the rest as I will be further specialized in the field. In addition to these two goals, I also intend to pass the Certified Public Accountant exam. My knowledge of Accounting will be in depth and elite at this point. This will increase the probability of landing a job at a respected firm or company early in my career. After obtaining a job, I will build up a positive reputation for myself through diligent work and networking. Now on top of my degrees and certifications, I will also have valuable experience. Majored in accounting during my undergraduate at Michigan State University, I am determined to be an audit professional at a public accounting firm in Toronto upon graduation from MMPA program. Over 45%of students at HLSCC are enrolled in the Business department at HLSCC. Why is the number of students enrolled in Business so high? This is not only in the British Virgin Islands but also across the world. According to Aztec daily in the US during the 2008-2009 school year, business majors dominated the American academic community with the largest number of degrees granted to both postgraduates and undergraduates. Why do students choose to pursue a business degree over the other degrees? Students pursue business over other degrees because of its diversity, opportunities provided, high income jobs available right after graduation and the low cost of furthering their education.
My interest in Accounting and Finance stems from wanting to understand how governments and businesses make their vital decisions to be profitable. Studying this degree, will allow me to gain an understanding of financial accounting, management accounting and taxation providing me with skills to analyse data and develop my decision making.
