It was not until the early 2006 as I started working on robotics just out of my own interest and curiosity to pacify my eager mind. But as I started, I became deeply absorbed in this area and lately my focus on microgripper based on electrowetting principle is an influence of that. Since the early college time to the recent graduate years I have studied and worked on robotics, electrowetting, microfluidics for energy harvesting, CFD for particle separation and gradually discovered my inclination toward those topics. As my final goal is to achieve a PhD degree I will happily take the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Ruina’s Biorobotics and Locomotion lab, Dr. Lipson’s Bio-inspired robots or Dr. Kress-Gazit’s group. Also at the graduate school as I have sufficient exposure to MEMS devices and microfluidics I found Dr. Erikson’s optofluidics for energy harvesting, biorobotics and Dr. Kirby’s micro/nanofluidics, Lab-on-a-chip researches challenging and will gladly utilize the research opportunity if available.
My proclivity towards engineering probably sparked from the Einstein quote “Everyone is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” When I read this quote I eagerly tried to discover my talent. Then it readily flickered inside of me; the ecstasy of studying mathematics, physics, and technology hour after hour was my endowment and enjoyment. Although, I love to study and am eager to learn about new things each and every day, topics like literature, sociology, and history make me want to hide under a rock. So it wasn’t a surprise as I choose to be an Engineer. Because, when I study through the various field of engineering, everyday is like a holiday; I...

...e sources of knowledge. This passion is most favored if I choose to be an academician. To fulfill my dream for the professional life, I need an advanced degree from a well reputed university that Cornell offers. Also the environment where a group of dedicated, optimistic, visionary professors used to work would play an authoritative role in exposing me to the realm of scholarly engineering. So I did not think twice to test my luck by applying to Cornell Mechanical Engineering graduate program which has so many reputed research groups and faculties. If accepted I will try to extract the maximum from the school accelerating my existent capabilities to pushing me up to the limit as I work through my advanced degree and my analytical ability, educational background, research experience and relentless attitude for solving engineering problems that will stand before me.
When people hear the term “FIRST Robotics” or hear anything related to robotics, they automatically assume that it has something to do with robots destroying each other or nerds sitting in the corner eating pizza and building small robots; I used to be one of those people who thought that before joining FIRST Robotics. In all honesty, I was very reluctant on becoming a part of FIRST Robotics in the first place because I did not know if I would fit in or even enjoy it for that matter. However, thanks to two special people I gave FIRST Robotics a shot, and I’m thankful that I did because I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. FIRST Robotics has greatly impacted my high school experience by teaching me life skills that I can’t learn in the classroom, forming new bonds and

Automotive Engineering program at your University perfectly suits my career ambitions. Curriculum made up of interesting subjects like Vehicle Dynamics, Lightweight Material Design, Hybrid Propulsion and Automotive Powertrain will strongly enhance my knowledge and skill. I shall hope to contribute fruitfully to the International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) and for the Deep Orange project currently going on at the University.
It is my extreme privilege that I have been given an opportunity to express about myself in my very own context. The very fortunate thing ever happened to me was that I had a very good early education which helped me a lot in the following time i.e., during and after my schooling. As I grew up also did my interests, at first Mathematics was the only topic which always dominated my interests but later on my interests made a shift on to the field of sciences mainly Physical Sciences with the introduction of many interesting topics in it. That was the time since which the inception of my interest in the field of sciences begun. Learning had become the key part of my life since then.
Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. From car trivia to novel innovations, my innate passion for the automotive industry has always made me research the minutest detail of every vehicle that interested me. Since elementary school I would draw sketches of cars which incorporated technology which were unheard of at that time; novel devices such as electrochromic windshields, HUD displays, and wind turbines which would constantly re-generate electricity for the car. While growing up, my hobbies largely consisted of constructing countless Lego and Meccano sets, and repairing my mom’s 19 year-old car. In middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects: applying science and mathematics to solve real-world problems has fascinated me and I have also taken further steps to reach my goals. By the age of thirteen I devised a scaled model of a heliostat power plant, which successfully powered a light bulb. The mathematics beyond the focus points of parabolic dishes and thermodynamics was very advanced for my age, but I took up the challenge...
Engineering has been a key interest of mine since childhood. While still in grade school I enjoyed listening to my father, an electrical engineer, teach me about advances in technology, and was always eager to hear more. I was introduced to my first computer at the age of five, and have loved interacting with them ever since. My decision to study engineering as a career was no surprise to those who knew me.
“Doctors treat patients; Biomedical Engineers discover treatments.” Said a guest speaker in a biomedical engineering course I attended in Malaysia. These words opened my eyes to the possibilities of biomedical engineering. To me, biology is a map of systems that connects to form a cohesion diagram. Applying biology in engineering provides me with room to experiment and create which is something I found in every class in this course.
My heart was pounding and my hands were sweaty. I couldn’t tell if I was nervous or excited. I watched breathlessly as my team-mates were in the field setting up the robot. Switching it on, precisely positioning it, and checking all the motor-controlling wires. Everything had to be done perfectly and properly otherwise the robot would be completely incapable when the match started. Finally, they fled the field and the buzzer rang indicating the start of the first practice match. The robot took off flawlessly, driving itself through the fifteen second autonomous This was only a practice match at UC Davis’s Sacramento Regional in the FIRST Robotics program, but that moment marked the culmination of six weeks of hard work. I know that the major I chose as an electrical engineer is not an easy one, but I also know that this is the best fit for me, and that I chose the right one. Not only do I get to contribute to the ever-changing society that we live in, but I also face new challenges every day, which is exciting because that means that in my career each day is different, and I love taking on a new challenge, which will enhance my knowledge and make me a better electrical engineer.
Learning is a continuous process and the day that you stop learning is the day that you start decreasing your rewards and lower levels of satisfaction. My ardent desire to acquire knowledge has motivated me to pursue higher studies at graduate level, and to take up a career in research in industry. I have taken this decision after carefully considering my academic background, profound interest in research and strong aptitude for problem solving. Banking on an excellent academic record coupled with a keen interest in the ever-growing field of science and technology motivated me to take up engineering.
My parents set the foundation to my life and nurtured me through a value system which makes me what I am today and defines what success means to me. I have always had the freedom to choose my work according to what interested me and had the flexibility to grow in the career path of my choice. My interest in Mathematics made me realistic in my approach towards life and its complicated challenges. With the interest towards communications during my school days, I had visualized a blueprint of how my professional life should look like. I took up Mathematics and Physics stream in my senior school education. With further determination, I completed my under-graduation in Electronics and Communication engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, a premier college with state of art facilities, af...
There are many virtues are relevant to engineers, including intelligence, decisiveness, hard work, carefulness, and being a team player. Virtues require practice, and it is important that engineers continue to grow throughout their careers and while they are in school. While we may have not explicitly defined what it means to be a virtuous person until the final year of school, we have unknowingly started to develop our virtues and traits throughout our time in
Electrical engineering, I believe, is the only field where one’s work becomes the most instrumental part of one’s mundane activity and life, and the output produced stays forever to credit. My perception is that, this field requires a lot of patience, perseverance and management skills in order to be successful. The connection that electrical engineering offered between me and this world is the fact that you can become a person who can impact so many lives. This made me pursue Electrical Engineering. After four years of undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, I feel completely satisfied with my decision to choose this branch of engineering as my career option as it has revealed the most pragmatic and down-to-earth approach to tackling
