My learning style is Physical (Kinesthetic). I prefer using my body, hands and sense of touch. My Learning style guides the way I learn. It also changes the way I internally represent experiences and the way I recall information. Since I am a physical learner I use my cerebellum and also my motor cortex (at the back of the frontal lobe) which handles much of our physical movement. Some strategies or techniques that me and other students can use to leverage in our online and face to face courses is to use physical objects as much as possible. Physically touching object as we learn what they do helps us learn faster and more efficient. Flash cards is another way that can help us memorize information because you can touch them and move them around.
After taking “The Kinesthetic Classroom II”, I have two ultimate goals I would like to implement into my classroom. The first ultimate goal is preparing the students’ brain for class at least twice a week in the beginning of class. My second ultimate goal is to incorporate one brain break everyday on lecture days. I believe these two goals are a perfect spot to begin my journey with adding movement into my classroom. Currently in my classroom, I may provide brain breaks once in a while but not as often as I should. Also I will admit, I definitely do not prepare my students’ brain for lecture. This essay witnesses my personal learning and teaching style and strategy. I aim to set forth the aspects of teaching and learning that I find help me become a better health care professional. Three of the major learning theories are discussed in order to find the skill sets that each bring to the table. By choosing the skills required in a clinical environment we can pick the required strategy accordingly. I believe that a unique combination of the tree theories where each is able to play to its strength and overshadow its weaknesses is the best teaching-learning strategy.

If you have a reason to remember information you just learned, then you have a better chance of holding on to it. For example, let’s say a person has trouble with his/her multiplication tables. And the person loves to lift weights. The teacher would use the information form math and apply it to the weight lifting. Such as 5 x 5=25, and lifting five pounds five time is a total of twenty-five pounds. You see this comparison makes the student learn it better because he/she can use it in more ways than one. This technique has helped me the most when I was learning about percentages in math. I could not quiet get the hang of it, so the teacher applied it to how much money would one save if a $50.00 shirt was 20% off. This gave me the motivation to learn it. Second, you should be selective in what you learn. You only want to learn the main ideas and leave the supporting material alone. The 3 principals that I prefer and will be applying the most are: self-reference, deep processing, and encoding specificity. I have found that by incorporating self-reference and making things personal, helps to retain what I study (Goldstein, 2015. I have had an interest in psychology since I was in 11th grade. Something about it clicked in my mind and it was very interesting to me. From that interest in psychology, stemmed a natural response to relate things about myself to what I am studying. Learning about memory helps me to connect a specific long ago memory to learning about the LTM process, possibly why I also relate to the deep-processing style of learning. Through the process of connecting something I am trying to commit to memory to something that is either familiar or important to me, it does seem to help encode and retrieve (Goldstein, 2015). Using past experiences or feelings to find a way to connect to the material helps me to retain and retrieve information. And lastly, I apply the concept of encoding specificity. I have a home office where I study, and also take my exams and quizzes. Maintaining the consistency of the context in where I study puts me in the right frame of mind to focus (Goldstein, 2015). According to Dr Leite (2010) Kinesthetic is the leading and most preferred study style. He used a large pool of people, ranging in gender and age. Gabe (2002) states that Kinesthetic will be most common only amongst males and that females will prefer the Read and Write style. Chris (2009) reported that Reading and Writing was the most common study method and classified learners falling under the preference as “traditional learners”.
In this essay I will be describing various types of learning styles and stating the advantages and disadvantages of these learning styles. I will also inform you of the most commonly used method of finding out your own learning style, and I will inform you of the man who made this method. Finally, I will write about my own preferred learning styles and the strengths and weaknesses of the different learning styles.

Individuals who possess this learning style operate and communicate effectively with words. This methodology of transmitting information from the short term memory storage (STS) to the long term memory storage (LTS) can be attributed to the read/write learning style. It encourages text based input and output in all its forms, utilizing the same skills for reading and writing in order to learn. Being a read/write learner demonstrates learning through the processes most commonly used. Having words is a cultural component of who we are and read/write are both important skills not just for the professional scope, but for the cognitive process as well. Read/write learning style stimulates the frontal lobe of the brain where higher level processes are held. In comparing the authors preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies for the preferred learning style (ARK), a review of the (R) Read/Write shows the author already maximizing efforts by writing and rewriting ideas and principles into words, reading notes multiple times, converting charts, diagrams and other visual cues into actual words, and practicing with multiple choice questions. Since the visual mode did not factor heavily into the learning style, it should be very sparingly applied in the authors strategies for learning and reproducing information. As a multimodal learner, someone like the author who was assessed as having an ARK learning preference could improve study habits as well as success in tests and examinations by using this strategy, since a multimodal learner may be more flexible, than an individual with a single learning preference, in their method of getting and distributing information. Wow! I have a personal learning style! If I had given any thought to my learning style prior to this course, I would have said simply, “Some things are easy for me to learn, and some things are not.” Now I can say, “I am a grouper, a top-down learner, an owl, in the C-D quadrants, and my strong intelligences are linguistic, intrapersonal, and interpersonal”. What all this means, still, is some things are easy for me to learn, and some things are not. But there I go again, simplifying the matter.
This paper will identify which of the Kolb learning styles best suits me and why I think so. It will also give some examples from my past and present to support these findings. After determining, the learning styles that best fit me and completing an inventory exercise, I have concluded that I learn best using audio and visual techniques in the learning process. I agree with everything this exercise has brought to light. I never knew that these styles were the meaning by which I learned.
