It's only been a couple of months since I've started attending Foundation academy and I must say that my expectations have been satisfied, I've built important relations and have felt more successful than ever. I admire the expectations that are set because I believe that starting on the right foot is very important. I expect nothing but excellence from myself throughout this high school career. To do this I must benefit from every opportunity, that includes composing this piece.
As a candidate for Honors English I understand I am given the opportunity to go beyond expectations and challenge my aptitude. By being able to attend this class I commit to demonstrate and perform at my best. I want to take this course because I know I can improve in several areas. Such as writing research papers and understanding complex literature.

For example, I am having trouble focusing on just one topic for the end of the year project. I want to learn how to find an objective and develop it well. Also, literature is influenced by the writing of many such as Shakespeare, Dickinson and even Stephen King. They all have a peculiar style, which is why they stand out. Being able to develop our own style requires something advanced and this is something I wish. Overall, this class will benefit me in many ways
Ninth grade English has been a challenge, environment wise; it upsets me to see that certain students are not measuring themselves to high standards. As much as I interact with them and witness their innocent antics, I intend to lead in example. Positioning myself with the right people will not only help me bring about new friendships, but also measure me up to an advanced comprehending
As a Science major I am not given the opportunity to explore my imagination; everything that I learn is factual and unquestionable. English 1301 gave me a voice of my own, this course made me understand that the best way to discover knowledge and wisdom is through reading and interacting with literature. Prior to taking this course I struggled with different writing skills such as, understanding the process of writing, analyzing reading selection and applying basic critical thinking skill in an argumentative essay. I also struggled with the analysis of specific content in professional writing, identifying rhetorical strategies and synthesizing concepts from references. Lucky for me my professor was extraordinarily skilled and provided me with
My experience into English 111 not only left me anxious, it became a self-revelation. My learning capabilities were challenged because writing did not come natural and the possibility of becoming a prominent writer were going to take a lot of time, effort and hard work. In spite of not knowing what to expect, I entered into this new semester pumped up carrying an “I can do this” attitude and feeling confident.
Happy New Year and the second semester of the school year. The first semester was a test on how students would blend into the new academics. Honors English was a great choice I made in middle school and I would recommend it to any incoming freshman. I have learned new ways to create claims and the proper way to set up paragraphs. Learning the way to set up paragraphs has improved my writing skills, even out of the english classroom. English comes in handy in the World Geography classroom as I have learned and may be useful in the future.
In order to succeed in something, you must know what is expected, have the materials needed and give fourth the effort to do the best of your ability. According to the English 111 syllabus, this course is designed to develop student’s writing ability so that they can portray a clearer message within their writing.
As a student, I have learned many different skills that I will take with me throughout my journey from this course. We have traversed many different types of writing styles, which any college student, or any person for that
When I found out I qualified to be a candidate for the NJHS, I knew I had to take this chance. This group is made up of people who depict leadership, character, citizenship, academic success, and service and I would love to join. These characteristics wouldn't just be valuable for a candidate to have, but for everyone to have to exceed in life. If I were to be in the National Junior Honor Society, it would give me an opportunity to ameliorate my future and motivate me to do better.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
Most of us write in some form every day, so you would expect that most of us would be well practiced and pretty good at writing. I read and write all the time; I have been taken several college courses and nearly all of them require write of some form. However, before taking this class not only was I not a good writer, I knew I wasn’t a good writer. Now I am not saying that I am ready to write my first novel, but I certainly more confident in turning in my college papers. The content of this course and the style of teaching was incredibly beneficial to me. Throughout this course we had multiple assignments that were aimed to improve us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning.
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
For me, being a college writer means writing well-organized essays that readers enjoy reading. Being a well rounded writer was also important. Each unit in this class challenged me to write in a well-organized, concise way. During each unit, we conducted some sort of revision activity where I was exposed to other students’ writing. As I read their work, I picked up on their use of transition words and separation of paragraphs to make the essay flow. Naturally, I began implementing more transition words in my own work and learned the appropriate ways to split paragraphs. The structure of the class was key to the organization of my ideas which was crucial to the development of my essay. During the third unit of this class, we were asked to identify an issue on campus, conduct research on the issue, and finally propose a solution to correct the issue. At first, it was difficult to get my ideas down and figure out what it was I would research. What I learned in class allowed me to first identify the issue I would research, write a rough draft, and hear what others had written before the final paper was due. This helped me to identify the main points, brainstorm and figure out what additional research I would need to find to support my argument. Being able to organize my thoughts from the beginning made writing the paper a much easier process. This course has helped me to grow as a writer and make
A person may not do so well in English but has a way with him/her hands and is "smart" when it comes to fixing things. Like mentioned before, getting C's and B's doesn't make you dumb and students will realize this. Questioning why it is that this person received cash when I tried just as much and did my best. Conflict amongst the students, pressure for the
I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. This combined with general apprehension about college life left me terrified. I had always been a strong writer in high school; I know how to form an argument and support
Also, I was able to see how arguments are sometimes so broad that you do not know what way to take them. I believe the biggest help to me through this unit was being able to see where in my writing process I have strengths like authority and logic and where my weaknesses lie like emotions. I feel showing more emotions could become a problem for me when it comes to creative writing, if a have to do it, because I am so used to the template academic and research writing styles. This course is definitely helping me to reshape my writing process and how I look at certain sources. Also how I can tell whether a source is useful in terms of logic, authority, and
I am taking AP Literature and Composition for many reasons, but the main reason is to make my grandmother proud. She used to be an AP english teacher herself and I just want her to be happy for me. The other perks for taking this course is to challenge myself and be more prepared for college. I believe that I could get a higher score on my ACT by taking this class. I hope to be able to read and comprehend words fast and efficiently. Also to improve my writing skills and spelling, I am really bad at spelling. Lastly, I want to improve my critical thinking skills when reading a story. To accomplish my hopes I can work on practice tests and spelling words. I can also read a book and stop in between certain chapters to think about the author is trying to say.
When I started Creative Writing I had little to no goals for writing. I was taking this class because it is an English credit that will help me graduate. I did think that Creative Writing would be more fun then most English classes and it was. In this class there is a lot more writing involved, writing notebooks, discussions, and assignments. I think this repetition helped gain more skills in writing, which is something I’ve always felt I lacked. In other English classes it would change each unit to writing a paper to reading then to a grammar lesson, which is great when you are trying to teach a lot of information in a short time, but in creative writing it focus on one thing writing. Teaching me different ways to write and help identify and focus on this assignment, with daily learning notebooks and discussion. It showed me the freedom writing offers.
