I am taking AP Literature and Composition for many reasons, but the main reason is to make my grandmother proud. She used to be an AP english teacher herself and I just want her to be happy for me. The other perks for taking this course is to challenge myself and be more prepared for college. I believe that I could get a higher score on my ACT by taking this class. I hope to be able to read and comprehend words fast and efficiently. Also to improve my writing skills and spelling, I am really bad at spelling. Lastly, I want to improve my critical thinking skills when reading a story. To accomplish my hopes I can work on practice tests and spelling words. In order to succeed in this AP course, I can work hard and focus on what needs to be accomplished. I want to get a good grade in this class and pass the AP exam. If I pass the class, I can get ahead in college. I am sometimes competitive, so I want to do better than my peers. When doing my own research, I found out that you can skip the general education courses in college if a student takes AP classes. There was also comments from other AP students saying how they were benefited by the class. This made me inspired and confident to take the class. This class will prepare me for the college workload. It will prepare my mind, so I won’t stress about the assignments. This class also will help me in the process to get into college. Not only by giving me a stronger transcript, but also to help me with writing my essays to get accepted into college. I want to impress the people reading my essay and maybe cry. It probably will not happen, but we can all dream. I will accomplish these things by doing the classwork to the best of my ability and turn it in on time. However by making smart informed decisions, students can challenge themselves by taking appropriate AP classes.
When I was first accepted into the AP Language & Composition course, I felt overwhelmed. I had always received above average grades in all subject areas, but because this was an AP course I was unsure if my English skills were up to par. During the summer, my anxiety about the course increased. I began to feel that my writing skills were inferior to the skills of my peers’. Before this course, I did not have a developed writing voice or style. I had little knowledge of what phrases or words to avoid using in writing. I started to wonder if I truly belonged in an AP course. After having completed this course, I have a better grasp of the English language and have acquired skills that have improved my writing.
Entering this course I was worried because I have struggled with writing in the past, and writing has never been my strongest area. I feared writing classes in middle and high school, and had the same expectations for this course. I had wondered if I was ready for college English, and was worried that my skills and abilities would not be one the level they needed to be for college courses. My attitude and understanding of my writing process have both changed since the beginning of this semester. One thing that really helped my attitude and confidence was the fact that I was able to complete the assignments and get a decent grade. I was worried that I might not be able to do college level writing, and when I started completing the assignments and learning new ways to write my confidence and attitude changed. Another thing that really helped me throughout this course was that there was plenty of reading and information available to guide me through my assignments. I realized that there was more freedom when it comes to writing than I had experienced in high school. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being.

My goal as a writer is simple: write a paper that wants to be read. I know, every writer wants to be noticeable. They want fame, wealth and notoriety. But for me, I just want a paper that people would enjoy. As a writer I want to spark the passion of my reader, I want him/her to walk away and go “Wow I actually never thought of it like that”, or something like that. As I am right now, I am not at that level. I have not written a piece that I can truly be proud of, something that makes me feel that I, Adam, am a very good writer. But that is why I joined AP Lang and Comp: to help myself become a better writer. I feel that this class can help me in my journey to becoming a better writer. I believe that the AP program will benefit me as a student because it expands my horizons. When it comes to finding my path and my place in this world, I believe this program will play a big part in it. By being in the Advanced Placement program, I can learn and have a deep knowledge of different fields and subjects. The AP English course would equip me with the skills I need for the future. Given that my passion lies with literature, it is something I can see myself working towards in college/university. It is something I would like to see myself do years from now. I thrive to read between the lines, to divulge myself in stories, and to truly understand people and this world. The regular curriculum would not allow me to express my full potential.
It is that time of year once more, exams, graduation, packing up the room, but in a moment such as this I can take time to reflect upon what I’ve accomplished throughout my senior year. In just a short 180 days, so much has happened. Sports seasons came and went, dances, school functions, but one thing remained a constant, AP work. I remember at the end of last year that I didn’t want to take AP literature and composition, I wanted to just be able to coast through my senior year, get by with minimal effort and besides, I would never be any good at the material anyway. That is when my parents stepped in and forced me to take it, as well as AP United States Government and Politics, and it may have been the greatest interception of all time. I knew the course was going to be difficult, it is Mr. Primmer for crying out loud. But, it was difficult with a purpose, a drive to succeed was behind every single assignment and a stride for improvement behind every single grade. I learned a lot about myself this year in this class. I learned that maybe I should have a little more faith in myself, I can accomplish things when I really try. I learned that I do not like analyzing poetry but I do like reading Shakespeare.
I took full AP to challenge myself towards the hard and tricky parts of the course, it will help my growth throughout high school. I make sure to do hard questions for extra practice so that I understand the concepts and the lessons of the subject better and I am able to get the marks I want. I revise all my notes at the end of each day to make sure I am keeping up with daily lessons, I encourage that everyone do their homework and a little extra so that in return you don’t have difficulty when it comes to writing tests. I learn best by taking notes and walking around while studying, I take short breaks when I am studying to make sure that I don’t cram it all together, cramming is something that should be avoided.
English is, almost certainly, the most important subject that a child can learn in school. Without knowing proper English, a child will not be able to communicate effectively with the English speaking nation. They would be shut off from education and other people in this country. A person who does not poses proper English limits his or her ability to achieve their highest potential. Knowledge of the English language is important to learn to be able to communicate with others, in the teaching of immigrant students, and in finding and maintaining a job.
I am currently a sophomore at the University of California, Davis. Due to its diversity, I was able to encounter and meet a lot of international students in this school. Back when I was a freshman, I spoke to many international students and I notice that many of them excel in different courses such as math and science. Yet many international students disclosed to me that they struggle in English like me. Most of the students that I spoke have a difficulty in learning the context thought. This led me to what may be the cause of this problem such as the fast phase of the class and also not requiring international students to learn an additional language such as Spanish.
It is now almost impossible for us to fully participate in the global village that we live in, without knowing a common world language.
