With our school lacking ag-related programs such as FFA, FBLA, etc. I was not able to participate in these types of programs unfortunately; however, my farm work experience has given me much more to offer than these programs could have done for me. On the other hand, I have participated in many school and community events that require heavy leadership characteristics. Sporting events are a particular event in which I have had great pride in participating. Various head injuries and surgeries limited my physical eligibility for sports in High School. Throughout High School so far, I have participated in Freshman year of varsity basketball. Throughout freshman year of basketball, I had a position on the varsity team, and was the only freshman …show more content…
I participated in the Science Fair. In the local Frederick science fair I have achieved victory in two of four years. I also achieved second place in one of those years. In the Northern State Regional Science Fair I won 5th place once. I achieved honorable mention twice. This means that every year I qualified for the Northern State Regional Science fair I placed or received honorable mention. Battling in the Northern State Science Fair Quiz Bowl I achieved great success. I have competed since 6th grade and plan on competing this year as well. My team won the Junior Quiz Bowl one year and placed third in two of those years. In the Senior Bowl my team placed 3rd twice. I have figured my way through Mathematics contests. I have participated in the Lake Region Conference and NSU Math Contests in the years Freshman through Junior year and plan to participate this year as well. While putting my brain to use in local Math Contests I achieved great success. In my three years of participation I placed the following: 5th place in the Algebra 1 division in the LRC Math Contest, Honorable Mention in the Northern State Math Contest Algebra 1 division, Tied for 1st place in the Northern State University Contest’s Geometry Competition, and won honorable mention in the LRC Contest’s Algebra 2 division. While participating in the Mathcounts program I however had the most success. I placed in the …show more content…
I have volunteered in the Relay for Life organization for eight years. I have been a captain of my own team for five of those years. I have been found umpiring Little League baseball games for the previous three years. In the last two in fact, I have been found as an assistant tee-ball coach. This Christmas time I participated in giving joy by being a Salvation Army Bell-Ringer I completed three two-hour shifts during the holiday season. I have also helped my mother deliver food to the Salvation Army for the past ten years. This winter I will be found as a 5th grade boys basketball coach. I am very excited to start this next chapter of my volunteer work. I was a participant in altar serving at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Westport for six years, also I participated in the youth group for three years. In doing so, I participated in a mission trip to the twin cities working in a soup kitchen. In this process I discovered the reality of how lucky I am to have what I possess. I would like to thank you for reading my application and hope you have a great
I help out my family and community in several ways. I have volunteered to help coach cheerleading at Jefferson Elementary School everyday after school. I work at Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and coach several classes and their gymnastics team. I also work in my church's nursery on Sundays. Being a role model for all of the kids I coach and take care of means a lot to me because they look up to me and want to follow in my footsteps. Despite my busy schedule, I try to help out in the community and with my family as much as
Last summer I volunteered at a local hospital for a total of 136 hours. At the end of the summer I received an honorable mention award for being a dedicated volunteer who is highly respected around the hospital. Furthermore, I've been a committed volunteer during this school year. I have also been an active member of my school's HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter; this March I will be competing in a medical terminology competition against members of other HOSA chapters across the state. Additionally, I am a devoted member of my school's academic decathlon team. Finally, I have been a member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) for the past two years.
I maintained an A average up until my eleventh grade year, by doing so, I was recognized as a member of the National Honors Society. This current year, I was recognized by Augusta University in receiving an award for academic achievement. The year of 2013 I was awarded the Most Valuable Cheerleader on the Washington Wilkes Football-Competitive cheerleading squad. As for leadership positions, I was elected 4-H president in the fifth grade and student council president my eleventh grade year.
I competed in the MATHCOUNTS competition when I was in the 8th grade. I placed 4th in the regional competition and went on to the state competition (which was held on the NCSSM campus). After the regional competition, I programmed a “Math Fact Teacher” to help me memorize math facts to prepare for the state competition.
I wish to take the time to give thanks for this impeccable opportunity in applying for the highly sought after National Honor Society. I have been looking forward to embarking on this journey since I heard about this organization freshman year. I am truly elated to be one of the many students that qualifies, as I know the standards of excellence and character that must be exemplified and met.
That year I had already went to 31 high school rodeos. I had pretty much been all over the state of Colorado. From Cortez, all the way over to Lamar. The whole fall and spring season I accumulated points that went towards the year end State Finals Rodeo. I had some good rodeos and I had some very bad rodeos. I had a few first places and a few second places. Most of my points came from fifth or sixth place finishes.
However, most of my volunteer work comes from outside of the school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc. For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer for the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me.
I have participated in several volunteer opportunities as a Girl Scout, singing Christmas carols at a local hospital, picking up trash along the beach, working at a homeless shelter, leading events for younger Girl Scouts and much more. These opportunities have influenced me to become aware of the struggles within my
I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
Triple impact competitors are athletes who work hard to improve the teammate's performance, lead their team to success, and make the game better. I think I meet the minimum standards of joining the Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship since I have been performing well in my classes and more importantly leading my teammates in my discussion group in the right direction. In addition, I have been working so hard to grow as a person both physically and mentally since I joined my school team. However, I made sure that I balance between my academics and athletic life because I believe both are equally important to guarantee the successful experience. I meet the standard of making myself better since I am ready to participate in games any time, as
This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. School events such as ‘The Day’ and other school wide bondings also exemplifies service participation. It is a powerful way to show our connection to those around us on a daily
I am deeply grateful to be given the opportunity to apply to such an important organization as National Honor Society. To me, it reflects that I have achieved my goal of working as hard as I can to set an example in both my school and community, and I could not be more honored. This organization does great things for any community it touches, and I believe that I can play a part in furthering the impression that is made.
I have been involved in the American Cancer Society for five years. My team, Team Hoot has raised funds for cancer as well as participating in Relay for Life each year. This year, I will be on the board committee at Relay; giving back to the survivors. This organization is one that I always promote and give back to. Also being involved in Relay for Life this year, National Honors Society is a club that helps the community. Being on the executive board, I correlate new service projects as well as corresponding with the Lee County National Honor Society chapter. Also, I am forming a new club at North Fort Myers High, Red Cross Club. Being president, Red Cross helps donates funds back to the American Red Cross. This year we are planning to donate materials for our troops as well as materials for individuals in disaster situations. Giving back to the community is very important to me. Being passionate about making a difference is a drive that I always
I achieved scores in the high 90’s and I even scored 100% on one test. On graduation day, the military training leader handed out badges and berets which set our field apart from the rest of the Air Force. Next, awards were handed out. I and four other out of ninety-five received the award of distinguished honor graduate; only the top five percent of the class received this award.
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
