Learning, growing, experiencing; involved. Throughout my four years at North Fort Myers High School, I have grown into the person I am today. Through these experiences and memories, these outcomes have affected my life in an astonishing way. Because of these morals, my academic drive, and personal goals will only grow at the University of South Florida. My most favorite activities include entertaining an audience. Dance has been a part of my life for years. A way to grow and prosper into a better individual, dance involves training and skill. Taking jazz, tap, ballet and lyrical, dance has been a safe home for me to go to in need. During school and outside of school at Robin Dawn Academy, dance helps me in distress as well as work to becoming a better athlete. Cheerleading is also one of my favorite activities as well. Joining my sophomore year, cheerleading involves stamina and practice. Learning how to stunt and cheer on my …show more content…
fellow Red Knights is very fulfilling. Cheering at football games, basketball games, and volleyball games, cheer has brought more pride to my school. Cheerleading has helped me grow into an involved student that in bodies the school. As a result, entertaining an audience through dance and cheer has influenced me as an individual. Being heavily involved in the community has also affected my life in a positive way.
I have been involved in the American Cancer Society for five years. My team, Team Hoot has raised funds for cancer as well as participating in Relay for Life each year. This year, I will be on the board committee at Relay; giving back to the survivors. This organization is one that I always promote and give back to. Also being involved in Relay for Life this year, National Honors Society is a club that helps the community. Being on the executive board, I correlate new service projects as well as corresponding with the Lee County National Honor Society chapter. Also, I am forming a new club at North Fort Myers High, Red Cross Club. Being president, Red Cross helps donates funds back to the American Red Cross. This year we are planning to donate materials for our troops as well as materials for individuals in disaster situations. Giving back to the community is very important to me. Being passionate about making a difference is a drive that I always
have. The summer of my junior year was the experience that affected my major of interest. My cousin Camden was born in July. Seeing nurses come in and out of the room gave me a realization; nursing is a job that I would love to do. Staying at the hospital all day, my dream came into effect. The summer after, I volunteered at Cape Coral Hospital, working alongside nurses, handing out food and organizing supplies. My interest became a passion. Everything added up; giving back to individuals and making a difference in someone’s life is an essential aspect of my life. Nursing is embodied throughout my family and putting myself before others is what I do daily. As a result, nursing is my future, the type of job I want to do for the rest of my life. At the University of South Florida, I would contribute to the lively community and culture. Through my experiences in high school, my dreams and aspirations continue to grow. With the unbelievable and endless opportunities to offer at your insinuation, the University of South Florida would help me grow into an aspiring nurse. Because of these experiences and highlights in my life, I am ready to start a new journey into the nursing field. The University of South Florida has those dreams at my fingertips.
Last summer I volunteered at a local hospital for a total of 136 hours. At the end of the summer I received an honorable mention award for being a dedicated volunteer who is highly respected around the hospital. Furthermore, I've been a committed volunteer during this school year. I have also been an active member of my school's HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter; this March I will be competing in a medical terminology competition against members of other HOSA chapters across the state. Additionally, I am a devoted member of my school's academic decathlon team. Finally, I have been a member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) for the past two years.
Waving to my teammates as I walked out of the tennis courts, the reminiscence of a smile appeared on my face after winning a close match. A freshman teammate joined me and I heard her take a deep breath as soon as we were out of others’ earshot, muttering something nervously. “I’m sorry, what was that?” I asked a little too loudly, the excitement still buzzing. She mustered courage and made sure to speak clearly this time: “I’m being bullied, and I feel so trapped that I only see self-harming as my way out.”
In the past, I have volunteered for our bands fundraiser every Christmas, which we host at our high school. It is a unique moment in time, to see the joy of children's faces as they walk into the school that morning for Breakfast with Santa. Being able to put on a performance for those children that morning brings joy to my heart and keeps me coming back each year. Another event is the Special Olympics held in Houghton Lake. Students from our school every year go and help setup and run the Special Olympics. Helping out and getting to talk to participants is an honor and has created new relationships with people. I want to be able to give even more back to my wonderful community through the National Honor Society by volunteering and helping as much as I can. Meeting new people, and helping them in ways that can change their life can have a permanent effect on one's self, and NHS opens that
...e school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc… For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer in the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me. The party was a huge success and a lot of fun. I look forward to organizing more volunteer opportunities for my friends and I.
I am going to take the class Practicum, which is a health science class where I get to work at a hospital and learn how to become a medical assistant. At the end of the year I will take the licensing exam and hopefully will be able to get a job as a medical assistant. I am also thinking of rejoining HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) because there are medical volunteering opportunities as well as school medical competitions. I now volunteer with the other members at elementary schools, parades downtown, etc. I think volunteering in any form is very good for teaching the values of service, how it’s important to give back to the community and help those who have have helped you. I volunteer for AVID and NHS.
Since the age of two, I have been dancing. I have been involved in lyrical and classical ballet, contemporary, pointe, hiphop, jazz and tap. When I turned 6 I also took up gymnastics. Through middle school I danced, and did gymanstics as well as softball and soccer. I loved these sports but when high school hit, I had to pick one and I chose cheerleading. I chose this sport because it was not only a extraordinary team athletically but they were extremely involved with the community. We had fundraisers for less fortunate children multiple times and even got to interact with them every winter. The leadership role on the cheer team taught me so much, we lead the entire student body to have school spirit and respect at the football games every friday night. My senior year I decided to switch back to dance and tried out for my high school dance team, and made it! It has been such a blessing to me by showing me even more leadership and how to serve others at our school and in the community.
I have served in the service committee at Collin College in Frisco. Our chapter has done many fundraising and fellowship events for students within Collin College and with other colleges in Dallas/Fort-worth area. We are currently working on a project called Miracle Network Dance Marathon. It is a fundraising event for the kids at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in Dallas. With the mission “dance for those who can’t,” participants stand or dance to music constantly for a period of time. Our first Dance Marathon will be on December 2nd. In addition, I have been volunteering at Frisco Family Service, Parr Library, and many other one-time events such as BT5K of American Brain Tumor Association’s.
I am currently a member of the National Honor Society. This organization is based on the concept of volunteering for the local community. I currently have 30 volunteering hours for this year. Along with this I have participated in a habitat for humanity build. Prior to joining the National Honor Society, I have accumulated around 10 hours in volunteer work that I received my junior year of high school as
Because of this holistic take on the world, I have always immersed myself in plans that support the aid of both my local community and the international community. As President of the Abbey Park Student Council, I have spearheaded and organized various efforts to fundraise and support various initiatives such as the Canadian Cancer Society and Kicks for Change at a local level, and Doctors Without Borders at an international level, where we raised a total of $50,000
Ever since I first heard about The National Honor Society during my freshman year, I knew I wanted to be involved with it. With this goal in mind, I have worked extremely hard the past two years to maintain my 4.0 GPA, improve in all of my sports, and help my community whernever possible. Some places/events I have volunteered for include the Hopedale day care, Oly Swish basketball camps and games, and helping renovate our high school softball fields. While all of these are enjoyable, my favorite, by far, is helping at Oly Swish camps and games!
Currently I volunteering with 3 organizations, Texas A&M University Student Veterans Association, Team RWB, and Aggie Support USO. All 3 of these organization are veteran or military support groups, I have a passion for helping my fellow veterans and those still serving. Working as a recreation specialist at the Lake of the Ozarks is combining 2 of my biggest passions in life the outdoors and helping the military.
The next organization I am apart of is Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. One of our key principles is service. Through my sorority, I volunteer around campus and the Columbus community putting on events like sleep out for the homeless, and toiletry drives for the veterans. Lastly through organizations such as Switch, and “The Stories Behind Their Eyes” human trafficking coalition, I help to combat human trafficking in the greater Columbus area as well as help the victims get back on their feet.
I can also make a difference in the community where I live. Last year my class held a car wash to raise money for the Animal Shelter. We went to visit the dogs there and I realized that the money we raised made a difference for some of them.
As for my school, I am a two year member of my school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. I have participated in many worthwhile volunteer experiences with this group. I’ve helped clean up the highway and recycled throughout the school. I have also helped with Project
I am also proud that I am active in volunteering. I was the Vice-president of Red Cross Society at school. I participated and organized a lot of events, such as the annual Charity Bazaar and presentations by guest speakers from the city’s Red Cross Society. The thing I 'm proudest of is that the annual Charity Bazaar events were extremely successful and the money we raised was used to help the poor regions of China. As the VP of the RCS, my abilities of organization, creation and communication were greatly improved, my leadership skill was also trained very well. I believe that these abilities would be an important asset in the business
