While writing my graded unit there were many challenges and obstacles I had to overcome. As part of my report I had a timescale to work too, however I neglected to factor in the Easter Holidays. This meant I had to adapt my timescale and arrange new dates with my mentor. I had to ensure there was time in her schedule to allow me to complete my observations and interview without causing too much disruption. The consistent challenge for me was my home life, I have three children aged 14,11 and 2. This was a challenge I had to work around, I did this by keeping my older children informed of what work I had to do and for when. This meant they knew when I would be unavailable. I took my work with me to their out of school activities and studied while I waited in the car. With my youngest child I enlisted the help of my partner to allow me time out to study without distractions. I feel this ensured that I had a balance between home and college and allowed me the time needed to write my graded unit. I found it extremely hard working to the word count as I feel I had a lot of information to condense. This meant I had to re read my graded unit several times, selecting what I felt was the most important parts. Another aspect I particularly struggled with was grammar as this has been a week point my entire life. In order to work through this I have stopped using my tablet and organised for my work to be proof read by an outsider. Areas I felt went particularly well was my teacher interview which gave me a lot of information. I thoroughly enjoyed researching my graded unit and found the information very interesting and beneficial to take forward in my career. The Feedback received from my tutor on my implementation part was that I related ... ... middle of paper ... ...timescale. Another reason I had to adjust my timescale was to allow for other project work. This included observations for behaviour class and activities for my 5-8 report. I originally stated I would use the HNC book for my resources however this was not a suitable print source. I therefore changed my source to Davenports Child Development which was more appropriate. Apart from these slight changes, I followed my original plan as stated and took on board any feedback given at each stage. I have shared my graded unit findings with my mentor, she has found this very informative and really valued seeing the support from another persons view. She and the school are very happy to discover my graded unit confirms that the school is delivering support as it set out to. They will continue to offer support in this way as they feel it has and will continue to get results.
half in advanced so I can do the writing process correctly. I felt to pressured to finish the
Over this entire course, we have written around 5 papers. This does not include this paper. Each of these papers were very different from each other. The types of papers varied. There was a new type of paper to write every 2 weeks usually. The papers I wrote were good but had much room for improvement in my opinion. I examined each paper after it was graded
In the course of this semester of writing, I grew more than I ever had in my ability to write well. I remember on the first day of class several other students were talking about how hard this writing professor is. I was a bit worried and even thought about switching to an easy professor for a guarantee A so I can get a 4.0. Now, I am grateful that I chose to decide to work hard for a 4.0 instead. Even though I may not get it, I am still glad I stayed because for once, I learned and became a better writer. I can see that my knowledge of conventions definitely improved from last semester. I really loved the feedback for my assignments, since it allows me to realize what I need to improve on and what I should keep doing. Unlike the previous semester, the writing professor only told us our grade on the very first assignment after two months. There were no feedback on how I could improve either, so I had no idea if I was having trouble with anything. Prior to this course, I always had trouble writing sentences and organizing them in such a way that flows and delivers my idea well. I also rarely outline or plan out how I will write a paper too, and even when I did, it was very vague. Out of the five learning outcomes, I grew the most in rhetoric knowledge and writing process from the reading responses and 4 assignment.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
Relief, worry, and doubt are only three words that run through my head as I write this final exam for my English Composition class. As I entered the class I felt as though it was going to be an easy A for me, because I did so well on my COMPASS test I thought I would do well in this class. Then I quickly realized I am not as good at writing as I thought I was. This class is intended to turn a not so good writer into a decent writer and to enhance the skills of writing all together. As was determined by my instructor and peers I am one who needed plenty of guidance throughout this class. As I went through each writing project I seemed to have the same errors or mishaps in each project. Run-on sentences, quotes and paraphrases, and
During religious holidays sometimes supporters of the monastery will come to celebrate the holiday and to enjoy a time of religious retreat. A guesthouse existed for this purpose and the monks were always happy to share their hospitality. It was on such an occasion that a family from Ballymena, a town north of Antrim, came for Easter. Malcolm and Bree MacConnell brought with them their 17 year old niece, who they now were her guardians, because her parents had passed away a few months earlier from the fever. The MacConnell’s had hoped that the time spent at the monastery would be restful for her and possibly give her heart a chance to heal. The young lady’s name was Reagan O’Malley.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
As usual, I started off by going through the learning guides to find out about this unit’s assignments and activities. I conducted the peer assessments first which helped me review my own work as well. Once I reviewed other’s work and reviewed the solution to the written assignment for the unit, I went back to see my own work. This helped a lot as I could see the actual solution to the problems, and other’s perspective and point of views to solve a problem in mathematics.
There are several ways in which my writing skills has improved when responding to the literature in this semester. Although, there are also some things that I still need to improve on as well. One aspect of writing that I have struggled with is being able to form a coherent thesis statement and also being able to support it with examples from the text. In my writing I still sometimes tend to make grammatical errors as well. I excelled at being able to incorporate the underlying themes and symbols within the reading material for this course into my writing. There were many expectations I had about reading and writing when coming into this course. My primary expectation for this course was to improve both my reading and writing skills. This expectation
The first project I had to tackle was the Literacy Narrative. Before this assignment I had never written or read a literacy narrative before. While learning about literacy narratives in class we read some examples and I was really inspired by how uplifting and empowering the stories were. In class we also went over some of the genre's conventions, which was very enlightening because I had never been introduced to the concept of genre conventions (Goal 4) prior to this point. While brainstorming I kept those conventions in mind which helped guide me during the writing process.
To achieve a good grade, I have been ask to complete five different tasks that consist in: identify and discuss the use of the seven different methods, the strengths and weakness of three of them, write a literary review, create a bibliography and present a screen print showing the word count of my review.
The feedback received from the instructor pinpointed and forced me to acknowledge what may have been lacking in my writing with distinctive regard to my work being choppy. At the beginning of the semester my writing was all over the board; however, as the semester has progressed I try to write with a plan rather than just freestyling.
Prior to constructing the Written Task, I was intimidated by the scale of such a project. I expected myself to spend just as much time staring at the screen as I would typing valid information. As for assignments, I learned about analyzing texts, in order to replicate a text, you have to know how the author used structure, style, language, mood, tone, foreground, and background to portray their ideas. In order to accomplish this, Dr. Phillips provided the class with varying media, we then analyzed the text and evaluated its attributes accompanied with corresponding evidence. I believe that was one of the best ways to prepare. Once I was well equipped with the knowledge and experience required, I wrote a rough draft of the Written Task. Consequently, this exposed where I was lacking knowledge and understanding of my subject matter and of the requirements of the task itself.
Looking through my past submissions and pieces of work throughout this past semester, I have made many realizations in regards to my progress as an English student. Through re-reading my writing, and reviewing the feedback I have received on my writing, I can recognize my growth as an English student. In addition to realizing my growth, I am also able to see a lot of areas that still need work. This past semester I have faced many challenges, I have pushed myself to go outside of my comfort zone, and I have excelled in several areas. After analyzing my past works from this semester, I have identified many re-occurring strengths and weaknesses from each unit, as well as challenges and goal assessments for myself in the future.
Throughout this semester, I have done everything that was asking. Every assignment was completed and turned in on time. I did not just complete my assignments to get them over with, I invested time and effort into writing each piece with compassion and dedication. As I look back at my papers, I believe that I was clear and to the point with each individual piece. My transitions are
