Learning Journal Unit 4 As usual, I started off by going through the learning guides to find out about this unit’s assignments and activities. I conducted the peer assessments first which helped me review my own work as well. Once I reviewed other’s work and reviewed the solution to the written assignment for the unit, I went back to see my own work. This helped a lot as I could see the actual solution to the problems, and other’s perspective and point of views to solve a problem in mathematics. Then I went after my reading assignment. This unit’s reading assignment was not too difficult to understand for me while I always struggled with the other chapters. Plus, the reading assignment itself was less as far pages than previous week’s readings. It didn’t take me long to read the Function Composition and Inverse Function. To make sure I understood the text properly, I reread the text and worked the …show more content…
To me they were easier than previous units written assignments; however, I am not sure of the accuracy of my answers, but soon I will find out. But overall, I didn’t spend as much time as I spent in the past couple weeks on written assignments. Self-quiz, in its turn, gave me some more practice and I enjoyed finding the solutions to the questions. I was also happy with the grade I achieved from self-quiz. Last but not least, the challenging part of this week’s assignments was the discussion forum. First I struggled to comprehend the questions, but after reading it over and over and searching on the internet for similar questions, I somewhat understood the questions. Then I drafted the answer and posted, and I was also excited to see others posts too. By going through my peer’s posts, I learned a great deal in approaches to the questions. Some of the answers were very interesting and detailed. The feedback that I received from my peers made me think about the questions as well which was
I feel that I have done ok on this module, but as I have never done an assignment I have been feeling anxious about this.
1. The basics section that explains the main things Matthew Norman teaches in his course.
I’m convinced that much learning has occurred in this course, both on your part and on mine. So I’m most interested in your telling me what you have learned, rather than asking questions on this exam that require you to demonstrate your learning. So, look back over the course and compose a page each on what you have learned about each of these course objectives.
Overall, I found this assignment to be extremely fun and interesting. It was definitely a learning experience for my sister and I. Even though I didn’t take the results of
Another semester has ended. However, this time in English class, it was different. It started out the same: the required course work , the dreaded reading assignments along with the required essays for the class. Once class started, the professor went over the syllabus. I thought to myself that this was going to be a long first day. By the time I got to the second essay (about the sixth week), I started to realize that this English class is not like the others; it had much more to give. Before this class, English was all about structure and writing without errors. It concentrated more on the skeleton of the content rather than the content itself. This class taught me to look at English or more precise, literacies, in a different light. I have been able to develop a clear line of argument that incorporates ideas and evidences from sources; recognize that writing is a flexible and recursive process; and incorporate conventions for source integration such as paraphrasing, summarizing, and quoting. I have a newfound respect and exhilaration for the English discourse.
This course is writing intensive; composing reflections, essays, and revisions to improve writing were all touched upon. My favorite piece of work is my short reflection on the Hazel Carby performance. She was remarkably fascinating to watch whether it was her medium of presentation or the messages she gave to the audience. This is probably the only piece, besides my reflection on Adichie or Colleen Carpenter: Ecology and Theology, where my personal views are shown. Her performance was confusing, but being able to gather the essential segments and construct a reflection best illustrates my skill in
My computing and general study skills have improved during the module. I have developed new skills such as keyboard shortcuts, how to create tables and the formatting of documents. Navigating the Open University and module website is now second nature and the Open University library is an excellent on-line resource I have learned to explore.
Reflect on the experience of completing the Understanding Your Own Problems worksheet. Did you find aspects challenging, helpful, enlightening?
When looking back over the course as an entity, I enjoyed the videos and reflections. I feel I have learned the most through this homework assignment. The videos gave me the opportunity to be able to put the techniques I learned to action. I loved how I was able to self reflect on my video and learn more about myself as a counselor through this. Also, I think the class feedback checklist was very helpful. When tying my reflections, I would reflect
I did not find it challenging per se; however, I noticed that I read textbooks and articles not to merely obtain knowledge. I kept in mind the question --how each reading relates to the learning outcomes and other units in the course—as I read. It was a slightly different way of reading the materials compares to other classes. The question stems from my wish for this course to flow well in addition to covering all the significant topics.
One of the key assignments that I think has allowed me to develop the most during this module is the assessment centre. During this task for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, we were put into groups and given a specific budget of money that we could donate to a panel of charities, based on the company 's values. What I wanted to achieve was to get an insight into what the environment is like and the sort of exercises that take place so that I can become familiar with the process, and I can use it to my advantage. Going to the assessment centre, I was slightly nervous as I had never taken part in one before and for the fact that I was being marked on my performance, so I was unsure of what to expect, which made me feel uncomfortable. However, during the exercise, I became more comfortable as I got into the task and though that I made a valuable contribution to the group. I made a conscious effort to be confident in challenging the
The course and the required textbook teaches us several learning techniques such as: skim reading, meta guiding, schematic processing and mind mapping.
I would improve the Unit by the following ways: I would have tried to cut out some of the repetitive and weak in higher order thinking summative assessments. These would have been the notes and the vocabulary definitions for a given section in a chapter in their book. Sometimes I asked the students to do this and would only take one mini section out for looking at it more in depth. I should have done more hands on station activities where the students are looking at artifacts and answering questions on their purpose and nature. I will ensure that if I give a summative test on some of the content the students study it will be before I give them time to work on the unit project.
Class participation was great everyone joined in on the discussion. People in the class felt comfortable talking out loud and putting there two sense in.
As an educator, there is always room for reflection and growth. Being in this class has provided an opportunity for both. From my knowledge gained in this class I believe that I have become smarter and have learned how to implement different tool into my teaching as well as general life as a teacher. Of the topics discussed in this class, commitment to students, avoiding burnout and reflective practices had the biggest impact on my professional growth.
