I believe the working with ideas and planning phase has improved as the topics for the research project had to be approved. After reviewing the subjects, I chose the first topic and then realized this is a significant matter that would allow for the other potential topics to be covered. Composing a thesis and developing an introduction to grasp the reader’s attention and give them a brief insight into what the following written work is about has improved as the semester has gone along. I believe that because I try to evaluate my writing from the reader’s perspective since the reader does not know as much about the written work as the writer or me.

access and apply these resources will be an immense advantage in classes to come. I believe that writing for both a con and proposition has developed further within this class as it is important to provide a well-rounded perspective to the reader. I feel very fortunate that the University allows students such access to volumes of research without a fee or in my case having to drive the library downtown. The fundamental of grammar, spelling, and punctuation will continue to be a challenge for me. However, through practicing and conditioning, I feel that I can get better at this since I recognize that this is an area of composition that I will always struggle with. Determining where to place a comma, semi-colon and reducing my run on sentences have been my goals for this semester, and I would like to believe I have improved. I had always avoided talking composition while attending technical school. Although it is a requirement now for my major and I found out it is more comprehensive and involves other aspects of writing other than the punctuation and grammar. I have noticed that I am cautious of the -ly adverbs and use them only when necessary, which is good because I never realized how many times I used them before having them acknowledged or penalized within an assignment. Breaking up paragraphs is another valued learning experience that I will take from this class as it is not a big deal to have a small paragraph over having a long paragraph that bounces all over the place. Audience awareness has progressed this semester due to this class, and the feedback from the assignments is valued. I still struggle with correct paraphrasing and citation, although the textbook for this course has some good examples, so I am glad that I purchased it rather than just renting it for the semester. Communication and understanding within my written work have improved as I have learned that I need to draft the written work, edit it, and then print it out and read it to myself pretending I have no clue about the topic, so it evolves into a flowing piece of writing.
The feedback received from the instructor pinpointed and forced me to acknowledge what may have been lacking in my writing with distinctive regard to my work being choppy. At the beginning of the semester my writing was all over the board; however, as the semester has progressed I try to write with a plan rather than just freestyling.
The communication feedback that I received on my report was appreciated as well because I chose an emotional writing and I wanted my story to be heard and perceive how I lived it. The rough draft was choppy, and I missed parts because I lived it and therefore the reader had trouble following and understanding what happened. The emotion came through in my writing; however, the organization needed to be improved upon as this is one of the areas of writing that are difficult for me although I recognize that I need to be aware of this when composing my
reports. I believe the writing logs were a familiar and helpful tool for me because it forced me to recognize what was difficult and what I enjoyed for the week. The self-reflection and evaluation were appreciated because it demands that I problem solve and resolve the issues I am struggling with to succeed in class. The applied learning was covered a lot in this class as the purpose directed for almost every assignment had to relate to our field of study. It was challenging at a time for me regarding the word workouts because I am pursuing long-term care and health management and when I had words that involved astronomy I had to be very creative in trying to relate those outer space words to a nursing home setting. I guess this the applied learning and problem-solving were interconnected on the word workout assignments. I found the final research paper gave me a multi-perspective position and understanding involving those end of life decisions and the quality of life over the quantity of life. In healthcare, those choices are very personal, and great empathy and respect need to be applied to each decision that is made. I am convinced this subject matter will be a frequent occurrence, and I will have to show my compassion, awareness, and professionalism as I obtain the goal of an administrator.
From the beginning, the first writing project assigned in class, a proposal, exposed to me the essential tools a writer needs to connect to the proper audience and defend my stance on the reform proposed. My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.

Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
Many of the mistakes I would have deemed inconsequential in the past resembles glaring flaws now. The introduction and conclusion paragraphs were where the most work was done. In the introduction, I inserted a hook and blended the paragraph together. I accomplished this by adding transition words and changing the tense to fit the rest of the essay. In the conclusion, I completely started over. The original was bland, boring, and just plain repetitive. In the revised version, I outlined the essay, restated the thesis, and ended by suggestion other applications.
Although I know there is still much to improve on in my writing, I feel as though I have made tremendous strides for my first semester. I have grown as a writer, and I believe I have the potential to be a great writer. Throughout my many years left here at The College of New Rochelle, I will continue to work hard so that my final year here at the college I can look back at my writings from freshman year to see my improvement. Writing 101 has boosted my confidence and has made me a better writer today. I will take this confidence along with determination to my writing 102 class, and I hope the professor will continue the molding process that Professor smart has started.
Change is interwoven in the learning process and therefore is inevitable. It is beyond amazing to reflect on ourselves and see how much we change in just six months. I do not know what is more remarkable—the change itself or knowing that that change represents an expansion in our knowledge, a growth in our abilities, and an improvement in our writing. However, one thing I am sure of is that it feels good to see that, excuse the cliché, hard work does pay off.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
Before when I would communicate I would constantly criticize my words in my head and get frustrated for saying them, but once I improved my communication I now when I am in situations where I communicate toward others I make sure that my objective is there. That is the first criteria I would use to evaluate myself, and by using it will allow me to make sure that I am getting my point across without hurting the feelings of those surrounding my life. Also I will use the technique of using appropriate language to evaluate my communication to assure that those around my life aren’t affected by my language. Using this criteria is helpful toward my evaluation of others and the evaluation of my communication which communicating isn’t as scary as it once seemed, and it isn’t a roller coaster anymore due to the developed understanding I have obtained of it and how my communication is much more presentable and competent than

This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Taking a creative writing class was a good way for me to express my thoughts and feelings onto paper, as well as read my other classmates stories. Reading stories created by other people lead me into their mind brain to experience what type of writer they were, it was an overall exquisite class. I believe that every person has a way of expressing who they are through writing stories of their own, fiction is the best way to express your creative imagination. This class that I took for two years helped me become a better writer and helped me understand the types of writers we have.
