My career goals are to work in healthcare administration with a focus on Medicare, government compliance, health insurance, and case management. The purpose of my career goal is to serve a greater population in a process I am proficient and enthusiastic about. My career choice is formulated by internal challenges, personal interests and skills sets, and integrating all three concepts into my work. I think that this approach allows an individual to find a path, formulate a plan, and envision themselves in their ideal role. Through personal experience internal challenge I think individuals step outside their comfort zone and formulate a greater goal. One example I can provide is joining the military; I found never originally imagined joining …show more content…
I am looking for an internship opportunity employing administrative skill sets and embraces using current technologies. A specific example of what I want an internship to focus on is business analytics and Kaiser HealthConnect (EPIC) use. I think an internship opportunity should include three core focuses: education level appropriate, simulate projected job abilities, and allow external help. Education level plays an importance in structuring the internship because it determines the expectations of the internship work. The focus of the internship should strongly mirror relevant theories the intern is familiar with. An internship that emulates projected job abilities gives the individual a path to elevate their skills. This form of assessment evaluates individual level of performance. The challenge to perform unfamiliar job functions enables both the preceptor and intern to see if the projected role is a right fit. Furthermore, since an individual likely possesses skills obtained from outside the internship the newly gained knowledge learning curve is shortened by previous knowledge. Lastly, providing external help in the form of resources and networking gives individuals confidence to succeed. External help can be provided through numerous methods. Having an online resource library or hands-on preceptor initially creates an environment for interns where they can learn, allow room for improvement, and fail with fewer consequences. Lastly, internships should strengthen …show more content…
I am interested in Kaiser Permanente for two main reasons – variability and sustained excellence. Kaiser offers a large variability of fields that interest me. For example, during recent work experience I have become aware Kaiser has divisions centered on retail healthcare for workplace health services. This precedence along with other obvious health services offered—ambulatory, surgery, and so forth make Kaiser an organization with a vast array of opportunities. Reviewing my previous work history, I realize that my experiences center around both administrative duties and patient care; the large variability of the Kaiser organization, and what it offers, provides an organization model excellent to pursue a role highly related to my interests. Kaiser also has a reputation for sustained excellence. My assessment is based upon both personal work experiences and personal

With 17 existing hospitals and ____ physician practices, the Greater New Orleans Region of Louisiana is not a practical choice for Kaiser Permanente expansion. The strategic plan for 2015 led to a membership growth of 650,000 members. The main internal driver for the astounding growth, being managed care offered at 20% to 25% less than the surrounding competitors (Brooking Institution, 2015). The more membership growth the more profitable Kaiser becomes based managed care system. Kaiser Permanente’s growth can be related to high scores amongst CMS and it’s highly recommended operation structure amongst the healthcare industry. According to the CMS “2016 Star Ratings Fact Sheet,” Kaiser Permanente represents five of 12 medicare health plans (with Parts C and D) that earned 5 stars — and of the 1.6 million beneficiaries enrolled in those 5-star plans nationwide, 81 percent are Kaiser Permanente Medicare members (Kaiser press release). The Kaiser Permanente Medicare plans since 2009 have always been operating at a high performance
The health care organization with which I am familiar and involved is Kaiser Permanente where I work as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse and later promoted to management. Kaiser Permanente was founded in 1945, is the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plan, serving 9.1 million members, with headquarters in Oakland, California. At Kaiser Permanente, physicians are responsible for medical decisions, continuously developing and refining medical practices to ensure that care is delivered in the most effective manner possible. Kaiser Permanente combines a nonprofit insurance plan with its own hospitals and clinics, is the kind of holistic health system that President Obama’s health care law encourages. It still operates in a half-dozen states from Maryland to Hawaii and is looking to expand...
Apart from the experience I have gained at LT Security Inc., my various internship positions have also exposed me to eye-opening responsibilities. For example, as a marketing intern at MySelf New York, I engaged in organized discussions with customers as well as colleagues in the pursuit of better promotional and marketing strategies. I have also gained experience with other matters such as employee coaching and assistance, employee relations, communication and implementation of policies and procedures during my time at Stony Brook University as intern in arts management and at Yunnan Changji Real Estate Co. Ltd where I served as an administrative
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
“KP is the largest non-profit health care delivery system in the United States, and operates in 8 states and the District of Columbia. KP is made up of 3 entities: the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP), Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (KFH), and the regional Permanente Medical Groups,” (Selevan, Kindermann, Pines, and Fields (2015). Selevan al et (2015) state that the members of Kaiser Permanente can be compared to other insurance companies in regards to age, race, and employment status, although the members are known to have lower income levels. I don’t have one career goal; I have multiple career goals, because everything is a goal towards a greater goal. One needs to accomplish little things to achieve something bigger. When it comes to career goals I would like to be able to accomplish everything needed to be successful. With schooling I need to try hard and pass all my courses and receive all my credits in order to graduate. I also need to be able to pass my final exams. A major goal is graduation. Graduation is the main point to all of this. After I graduate my goal is to find a job in North Carolina at a hospital or clinic. There are many job settings for Healthcare administration, but in a hospital is my main goal. I wouldn’t mind working another setting, but a hospital is what I am shooting towards. Once I achieve this goal, I know I will what to bump my education up and try for my master’s degree. Since I found out I can further my education I knew that one day I eventually will further myself and those are my career goals. I know Kaplan has a great process in helping me achieve my career

Since starting this class, introduction to health care, I have begun to think about what the future holds for me and what I will pursue with my college degree. At this point in time my career goal is to become a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. I plan on working in a hospital setting where I can continue to learn and practice my profession. Five years after all my schooling and achieving my license, professionally I see myself working at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, New York, which is a teaching hospital. I would be working on and with patients, while still learning as I practice my previous knowledge. I would be seeing patients with injuries such as an ankle sprain, evaluating x-rays, and possibly sitting on and

Professional Goals I would like to pursue a career in healthcare administration, which is my ultimate goal. From there, I would like to work in a hospital setting where I can be of assistance to a larger population. Another goal I would like to achieve is earning a master’s degree in healthcare administration. While a bachelor's degree is needed for entry-level positions, a master’s degree can help me advance in my career and provide opportunities to work in certain areas that require this particular degree. Additionally, I would like to improve my communication skills, as it is an essential aspect of healthcare administration.
For the intern in a small start-up, as a technical assistant, I need to deal with much troubleshooting with my limited knowledge. I learned to analyze the new cases and problems by linking to the ones I met before, and successfully solved nearly all the problems that the employees and managers asked. Moreover, during my intern as a sales operations analyst in GE Healthcare, I learned a lot from my mentor. I learned how the marketing and sales team work, and the common concerns in the sales management. I also participated in the bidding process, and I learned step by step from looking for a business opportunity to winning the bid and booking the
