Short term, I want to work in a medical facility, preferably a hospital or small clinic, in an administrative and/or clerical position. I would like to do this to gain experience on my resume since I have never worked in a medical field job before. After about five years, I will have my bachelor’s degree and want to be a department head in the hospital or managing a small medical office. My long term goal, after I go on to get my Master’s in Healthcare Administration, would be to open a small donation only clinic available to working parents who can’t afford healthcare insurance for their children. They are able to see a doctor for a short clinical visit for a suggested donation of something like twenty dollars. The staff would be made up of college interns who are in the pediatric or in another medical practicing major with a licensed medical doctor present overseeing the visit. This will help low income working parents to receive care for their child at an affordable rate. However, I know this would be difficult with Obamacare and its laws so hopefully by then, we will be rid of Obamacare. Another long term goal of mine is to manage a hospital or a public health facility. If I am unable to open my own business, I would like to oversee an entire hospital or manage public healthcare in the community I live. Either way, I would be impacting many lives and also be very beneficial to the community in several ways.
After review of my skills, interests, and experiences, I decided to pursue the medical career field as my first career choice, more specifically as a physician assistant. I will exceed in this position in the interest of that I like to help people and I solve problems well. Also, I communicate well with others and I have a great amount of patience. There are various careers that fit my skills and interests, but this one grabs my attention. My dream job is to be a doctor, but this occupation allows one to save money by lessening the years of school required. Also, the pay isn’t too shabby either. I will be successful in this position due to my skills, characteristics, and values, like honesty and helping others. Up to this point, I have job shadowed at a medical billing company and I like the idea of diagnosing and helping people, but a desk job is not ideal. Also, I took a medical terminology as a class and I discovered that I like how the body works and what it does. These factors have all influenced my career goal.

I feel I should focus on school and receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management and obtain my Registered Health Information Administrator certification and work my way up from there as my dream job is to be a coding manager. According to my calculations I will be finished with the bachelor’s degree program by year four of my
Healthcare administrators are expected to be professional and ethical. Situations will arise where the ethical course of action is not clear. If healthcare administrators learn to be self-regulating and follow their code of ethics, actions and decisions made will be consistent and will be reflective of a good steward of resources.
If you have someone who may have been in banking for several years as an administrator and hiring them to be a healthcare administrator you may find out quickly that you have hired the wrong individual. Yes they may have great leadership skills and communication and relationship management skills but if they have never worked in a clinical or hospital, or any healthcare setting for that matter, how do you expect them to be able to relate to the complex problems that may occur with patient care, hiring the right employees to oversee patient care, and in many cases, hiring the right employees to oversee the hiring of the employees performing patient care. There are also many different computer programs that are necessary for an administrator to know in order to run a health care facility in an effective manner. Yes, many different occupations have programs that they must learn in order to be effective, but in the health care arena many times there isn’t time to teach one from scratch on how to use such a program. One example of not having enough time is when a major natural or manmade disaster takes place. Many times an administrator may have to jump in and work with field staff or hospital staff to save lives without doing patient care and if they do not know how a healthcare environment works, they could cost the lives of innocent
Healthcare Administration is an occupation where one would plan, direct, or coordinate medical and health services. These tasks take place in hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations, public health agencies, or similar organizations. This occupation works more with documents, with little patient interaction. You do not commonly become certified to draw blood, and one does not require an internship for this career. This occupation does require a background check. Many careers require specific types of certification. Healthcare Administration requires an LNHA (Licensed Nursing Home Administrator). Challenges for this field depend upon the workplace in which one is working.
For any administrator in the health care field they must always be aware of any problem that has happened and be able to fore see any problems that might arise in the future. The administrator has to be able to work with staff and keep them up to date with any and all changes to the way in which they handle patient information. As well as be able to put aside their personal beliefs for the benefit of the organization and the patient.
Choosing a major has never been an easy task; after high school graduation, without a college plan, many of us finds ourselves taking classes we don’t even need in the first year of college. Setting aside some times to decide what we want to do in life, what we want to study, and where we want to be in the next five years or so can help us save time, money, and most likely can direct us toward our most coveted career goal. Changing our mind along the way is typical of us, but there are always many majors to choose from; but when it comes to the healthcare field, not every single one of us interested in healthcare as a profession gets to wear the white coat or the scrub because some of us hate the sight of blood and needles. These people may consider healthcare administration as a career, but is it worth it to choose healthcare administration as a career?
Some relevant certifications for my future profession are the Professional Association of Health Care office management and American Health Information Management Association. Even though it is not required to have these certifications I want to obtain these certifications. Most states require specific licensing, to complete a training program that is state-approved. Health administration or health information management usually includes courses in health services management, strategic planning, accounting and budgeting, human resources administration, law and ethics, health economics, and health information
People that are interested in this line of work like activities that include leading, making decisions, and business. They have integrity, have leadership qualities, are able to take initiative, and are dependable people that can handle a high stress level. I learned from my results that I am more of social person and the interest profile would recommend me doing something that helps people or being of service to people, which I feel that I am able to do in this profession. I also was ranked highly in enterprising which means that I like persuading and leading people which I think is a great asset as well for being able to run a major facility and work with many different people this seems like these would be essential traits for this position. Further research has lead me to find a few more ideal characteristics to have. One being able to communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, customers, industry leaders, and hospital workers. Second, leadership is important. A healthcare administrator needs to have the ability to create a shared vision for and inspire the entire work staff/team. You also have to have a good knowledge of healthcare. Someone that is able to stay on top of healthcare system policies, the latest innovations in healthcare technology, and the ever changing political landscape of the industry. Since starting this class, introduction to health care, I have begun to think about what the future holds for me and what I will pursue with my college degree. At this point in time my career goal is to become a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. I plan on working in a hospital setting where I can continue to learn and practice my profession. Five years after all my schooling and achieving my license, professionally I see myself working at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, New York, which is a teaching hospital. I would be working on and with patients, while still learning as I practice my previous knowledge. I would be seeing patients with injuries such as an ankle sprain, evaluating x-rays, and possibly sitting on and
Professional Goals I would like to pursue a career in healthcare administration, which is my ultimate goal. Additionally, I would like to improve my communication skills, as it is an essential aspect of healthcare administration.

I am currently looking for work as an Administrative Assistant with the goal of becoming a Business Administrator or General Manager in the future. I have been in the workforce for a couple of decades now and have had the opportunity to experience many different career paths. Administrative Assistants have a broad range of duties that I think would utilize and hone my existing skills as well as offer me insight into how different departments function; this combined with my work history would make me a great future manager.
