Q2: Multilateral Aid is the main type of aid given to Vanuatu. Countries such as China, USA and Australia all provide aid to Vanuatu, directly to the government and councils of specific areas to improve infrastructure for roads, buildings and schools, aid is also given to improve education and help their economy rise. Food aid is often given, for when severe events occur, such as a cyclone. Recently in Vanuatu, a devastating cyclone hit on March 5th 2015, named Pam. Due to the horrific damage

Australia benefits in many ways from assisting Vanuatu, whether the benefits be culturally, economically or geopolitically. A few cultural benefits that Australia receives are; the improvement of our reputation and the preservation of historical and cultural ties made with other countries, especially Vanuatu. Due to Vanuatu being geographically close to Australia, it proves Australia is taking care of their surrounding neighbor’s. Economically, giving aid helps the development of global trade, and stimulates our economic status; making many more jobs available in aid agencies therefore increasing overall jobs in Australia, also increasing annual salaries for many people. Aid assistance to Vanuatu also allows Australia to strengthen their ties with other countries therefore producing less risk of future war, and helps with the improvement of border security. Cooperation between Vanuatu and Australia will also be sustained meaning issues can be discussed together mutually. Assisting countries in need with aid will always provide Australia with benefits and will improve areas such as our recognition, reputation and our relationships with countries, especially Vanuatu. Due to Vanuatu needing aid to assist with their development, the reciprocation of money back to Australia is not available at the moment, but in the future the Vanuatu Government plans to give back to
They have juggled power between them and Australia has emerged a powerful and intelligent nation under their leadership.
After evaluating the above factors, it is clear that the partnership between Australia and Japan is of significant importance to both countries. With reference to the Centre for Study of Australian-Asian Relations (1997:152) the future prosperity of Australia will to an increasing extent, be dependent on that of her neighbours in the Asia-Pacific area. Currently the Australia-Japan relationship could be described as “comfortable and relaxed”. However both Australia and Japan need to be alert to the changing environment and must ensure that the right frameworks and policy settings are in place in order for the two countries to prosper.

The only time Australia has come under direct attack from another country, was when Japan bombed Darwin and sunk a number of ships in Sydney, during World War 2. The question then has to be asked, why Australia has been involved in so many conflicts. A number of recent conflicts in this century come to mind, they include, The Boer War, World War One, World War Two and The Vietnam War. By far the conflict that drew the most outrage from Australian citizens was the Vietnam War. Australia has been drawn into these conflicts through a number of treaties and alliances made with other countries. Often it is not the conflicts that have drawn most outrage from Australian citizens, rather the insistence of other countries, for Australia to accept large numbers of post-war refugees.
There is a high degree of complexity in this question. Should Australia, as a mature nation, be taking part in moral issues around the world even though they are not happening on our doorstep? Do we ignore the deaths in Bosnia, the starving millions in Biafra and Ethiopia, the worldwide environmental issues raised by Greenpeace? What is the purpose of developing alliances, both economic and military, with other countries? At stake, in all of these issues, is our desire for a better world to live in.
During the tsunami in the Philippines, the U.S. was first to deliver food and many other items, spending $178 million. It brought stability internally and helped in following suit. Helping other countries can benefit the world, if assisting other countries in a time of need, it can bring a greater relationship closer together.
India is located in the south of the Asian continent bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The country’s territory is measured at nearly 3.3 million square kilometres extending from the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains in the north to tropical forests in the South. India’s neighbouring countries are, to the northwest Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the north China, Bhutan and Nepal; and to the east Burma and Bangladesh. The latitude and longitude of India is 21.0000 degrees North and 78.0000 degrees East. India’s size is 3,287,590 kilometers squared and its distance from Australia is a vast 7,809 kilometers.
It is important to remember that all this is happening in one of the most endowed nations ever and where tons of food are wasted and thrown away daily. Forty percent of food is thrown out in the US every year. This amount of food worth about $165 billion and is prove that it could feed approximately 25 million Americans. Clearly, United States hunger problems are not caused by a lack of food, they are rooted in poverty and like many aspect in life we cannot address one without also trying to solve the other.
Worldwide, 870 million people — about one in eight— are hungry. That is nearly three times the population of the United States. It is hard to imagine in the modern world that a country cannot feed its people, but in 1984, the Ethiopian Famine took over one million lives. There were many causes that contributed to the complications faced in Ethiopia. These problems received major attention in the global Community. The famine drastically changed people’s lives because of the lack of food and resources and affected Ethiopia to our present day.
In response to the recent failure of the international community to prevent the famine crisis in the Horn of Africa since July 2011, Suzanne Dvorak the chief executive of Save the Children wrote that, “We need to provide help now. But we cannot forget that these children are wasting away in a disaster that we could - and should - have prevented” she added, “The UN estimates that every $1 spent in prevention saves $7 in emergency spending.” (Dvorak, 2011).
A more recent foreign policy priority is the promotion of the nation as an active and responsible global citizen. Success in this area is measured by our response to human rights, terrorism, third world debt, and drug issues. Australia already has a well deserved international reputation because of the work of previous foreign ministers, e.g Bill Hayden and Gareth Evans on human rights.
Not only has Australia’s engagement and relationship with its Asian-Pacific neighbours had just only now begun to develop, but it has also now only recently been seen as an important goal to achieve. Multiple stages and events had allowed this change of attitude to take place, these of which allowed both the government as well as its people to at the very least take notice of its neighbouring countries. These important events and stages all aided to give a mindset that differs from the pre World War 2 in regards to Australia’s allegiance with the neighbouring Asian countries; however the most important stage would have to be when Australia had the abolishment of the white Australia policy. However even now despite being located within the
In the United States of America, the richest nation in the world, one in six Americans do not have enough food to eat. Have you ever wondered why there are so many food banks and food pantries throughout the country? They are not simply, as you might think, able to offer emergency food assistance. Indeed, they are the main sources of food for millions of food-insecure Americans. Food insecurity, the state of not having sufficient quantity of affordable and nutritious food, is very widespread and common in America.
What does the food pantry do to help their community? The local food pantry helps people who are having a financial crisis. They may have lost their job, or had a medical emergency, or their car may have broken down. The food pantry helps the people who are needy or who are poor and need some help getting food. People that go hungry for a long period of time will change as a person completely. More than seventy percent of people go hungry in the world. Going hungry for a certain period of time damages your mental health and physical health. When it dames your mental health it causes you to have negative thoughts about things. Going hungry also changes your physical health, it causes you to lose weight and it will mess up your respiratory system.
