If motives are identified, then practical settings and contexts in a festival can be amended to facilitate fulfillment of them. For example, if social interaction is the main motivator among many festival goers, it would be risky not to design program elements to facilitate it (Iso Ahola, 1989). Meanwhile, Funk (2008) also stated that socialization represents visitor with a desire for social interaction in which individuals are motivated to seek out experience that will be gained in regards to the opportunities for the enhancement between human and human relationship through external interaction with other spectators, visitors, friends, and family in sport
Socialization is the term used to refer to the process of inheriting and circulating norms, customs and ideologies, providing an individual with the skills and habits necessary for participating within his or her own society. Socialization is in short the means by which social and cultural continuity is gotten. Ricky and Lafayette and four other boys make up their own gang called the four corner hustlers. (218) the environment in which the boys live in is starting to influence their lives because they feel they have to survive, and joining gangs would help them blend in.
A)Socialization/page 67: The process by which people learn the characteristics of their group- the knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, norms, and actions thought appropriate for them.
Socialization is the development or way of learning one’s culture. It is originally modeled by family in the early concepts of values, roles, and overall sense of self. In an analogy, socialization creates the lens in which one sees and interprets the world. The lens that comes from family is like the actual eyeball. It is a part of the person, and cannot so easily be changed or removed to create a new perspective. From the time a White person was born they were shown that an African American was less than. They were seen working the dirty jobs, called derogatory names, beaten, and overall disrespected. On top of just seeing the behavior if a white child tried to test the norm of segregation by talking to an African American, they were punished; making the point of inequality even stronger. This was the process of socialization that was further solidified in their churches, education system, in the media, and in the
Socialization is a lifelong process of acquiring one’s personal identity; when we interact within the four agents of socialization—family, school, media, and peer groups—we internalize norms, values, behavior, and social skills. Since our values, norms, and beliefs about society are first learned with family, family is the most important and influential agent of socialization.
Bobbie Harro states in “The cycle of socialization” (2000), “No one brings us a survey, in the womb, inquiring which gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, cultural group, ability status, or age we might want to be born. These identities are ascribed to us at birth through no effort or decision or choice of our own” (p.16). I was born into a system, just like everyone else, where I was judged and labeled due to the social categories that I identify with. What I have experienced throughout my schooling has shaped and molded my sense of self and the way that I view myself in terms of my gender and race/ethnicity. I live in a world where I have been both praised and ridiculed for these differing characteristics that seem to define me, but
Agents of socialization in short are the people, groups, and social institutions, as well as the interactions within these groups that influence a person’s social and self-development. Agents of socialization are believed to provide the critical information needed for children to function successfully as a member of society. Some examples of such agents are family, neighborhood, schools, peers, religion, sports, the workplace, and especially the mass media. Each agent of socialization is linked to another. For example, in the media, symbolic images affect both the individual and the society, making the mass media the most controversial socialization agent. One of the most obvious places agents of socialization lay is in the malls of America. Malls are filled with advertisements and consumed by the mass media touching on all levels of society.
The term socialization refers to the “lifelong social experience by which individuals develop their human potential and learn culture.” [Macionis et al. p 55] The concept of socialization is that our actions are driven/learned by culture. Socialization is also the foundation of personality, which we build by internalizing our surroundings. Through the lifelong process of socialization, society transmits culture from one generation to the next.
Political socialization begins early on in life and is an ongoing process affecting individuals throughout. It is how people eventually identify personal beliefs and expectations in American politics. These political views can include our level of patriotism, faith in the democratic system, standards by which we hold governing bodies, and opinions regarding public policies. From the playground to the classroom, the office to the dinner table, much of our lives affect our political opinions. The most easily identified agents of this are family, schooling, peers, mass media, political parties and religious influences. Furthermore, these means indoctrinate us in the political society through four basic methods: latent, manifest, affective, and instrumental socialization.
Agents of Socialization include, family, schools, peers and media. Family serves as the basis in developing attitudes and behaviors. There are many families of multiple backgrounds and during high school I came from a low income family whom didn’t see interaction as important. My parents often kept to themselves and my siblings were the only people I really talked to. I made friends with other peers who also came from low income families and we found activities to do together such as playing card games or hanging out at restaurants. We were displaying anticipatory socialization because we were all seeking things in common like video games, music or sports. Anticipatory socialization is “learning that helps a person achieve a desired position” (Macionis). I was trying to learn different types of heavy metal bands my friends were into and also joining into their activities such as free running. I did not have many hobbies myself other than playing video games so this kept me busy.
“Socialization is the process through which people are taught to be proficient members of a society. It describes the ways that people come to understand societal norms and expectations, to accept society’s beliefs, and to be aware of societal values” (Little, n.d., chap.5). The Socialisation process also helps individuals achieve a sense of who they are as a person. “During socialization, we learn the language of the culture we are born into as well as the roles we are to play in life” (O’Neil, 2002-2011, para. 1). For example, women from many countries have to adapt to the culture of not being able to do things the men do. O’Neil (2002-2011, para. 2) states “While much of human personality is the result of our genes, the socialization process

The socialization that we receive in childhood has a lasting effect on our ability to interact with others in society.Socialization is a lifelong process during which we learn about social expectations and how to interact with other people.Nearly all of the behavior such as respect, paying attention to details, obedient, being caring, etc that we consider being 'human nature' is actually learned as
Socialization is learning what is expected from us by the people we are interacting with. We learn what is considered normal and how to interact with others. Socialization also gives us the ability to learn what is not acceptable behavior and the negative treatment that can come along with behaving outside of the norm (New York University Department of Sociology, 2013). It is beneficial to reflect on educational experience as a site of socialization because for the majority of us, this is our first real, complete, and honest experience of socialization. We may receive leniency or special treatment from our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles because we are younger and cute. They do not expect the same level of standards for behavior as peers who
The Sociological use (E1). “Socialization is defined as the process of assisting young people to become members of society by giving them social skills close to virtues. In other words, one can rightly define socialization as ‘grooming a child into being a member of society”. All this ideally ought to happen by persuasion and not by coercion; this tends to suggest that
Socialization is the process of passing down norms, customs, and ideologies that are important to the society by the previous generations to the younger generations. The school system is a social agency that was created to enhance the processes of socialization through education. The importance of school as an agent of socialization can be best explained by the amount of time students spend in school and in activities happen around school. The manifest functions of school are to educate students the social norms, and the knowledge and skills that help them become economically productive in order to benefit the society. But students not only learn from the academic curriculum but they also benefit from socialize with their teachers and peers.
