Motivation: Besides already knowing what I’ve wanted to do since I was in the eighth grade, I have always been drawn to education in a way that it has motivated me to keep moving forward. Also on a personal side now that I am pregnant with our first baby, I feel that it is an obligation for me to be the person that our children look up to when it comes to schooling. Accordingly, I have a few reasons to be motivated to continue my education and I would say that the main reason would be for our children. I have always been afraid to fail, especially when it comes to schooling, I may have gotten good grades in high school, but that is because I worked hard so that when I graduated I could pursue college and be successful at it. My main purpose of achieving a degree may seem main stream, but who doesn’t want to take a step to bettering their self’s. No matter how much I get paid when I achieve my bachelors I will be happy with what I am doing, and to me that is the main purpose of pursuing a degree to become what you enjoy doing the most in life. I just happen to love helping the next generation as they become older and accomplish their own goals so that in the future they will be the ones getting a college degree and to me the first step that we all took in education was elementary school. No matter how under paid or how under recognized teachers go I will always think that I am serving a higher purpose when I teach the little ones their …show more content…
Therefore I have had plenty of time to prepare and think of all the outcomes that could happen even the bad ones and the great ones. Furthermore my family has always been expecting me to pursue this college career for a long while which has helped tremendously in preparing them to accept that I am taking the initiative in my life and pursuing college. I have always been worried that online learning was going to be difficult for me considering I struggled to get good grades in high school. I have found that I may have found my niche in taking schooling and it happened to be what I was most scared about, online classes. I have taken online college classes in the past which has shown me the ways of online learning and has helped me develop a few patterns and habits to help me better understand online classes. Due to being in the military my finances don’t exactly take play when it comes to my college because I am given tuition assistance that pays for my college, if there were to be a problem I have applied to fasfa as a backup plan to my tuition assistance. Also, my husband and I have been very financially conscious because we know that anything can happen when it comes to college expenses. Therefore my family, such as my husband, has been more than prepared for my
One day while folding clothes, I saw a commercial sponsored by the President Barack Obama Ad Campaign that encouraged stay- at- home mothers and single mothers to go back to school to get their college degrees. President Obama is specifically assisting moms to go back to college by increasing federal stimulus monies as well as financial aid. Right then and there, I decided to go back to school to further my education and increase my chances of starting a career in the field I would be trained in. I wanted to be able to earn more than minimum wage in this already stressed job market. My decision to go back to school was not an easy decision. For the last seven years, I have been a stay- at- home mother and during that time I have often thought about going back to school and earning a degree. But, whenever the thought of going back to school crossed my mind I would feel as though I was neglecting my duties as a wife and mother. I also suffered from a paralyzing fear of failure that has always kept me from pursuing the possibilities of obtaining a higher education. After much prayer and discussion with my family, I finally made the decision to move forward with my plans to obtain a college education.
Theories of Motivation What is the motivation for this? According to the text, motivation is defined as a set of factors that activate, direct, and maintain behavior, usually toward a certain goal. Motivation is the energy that makes us do things; this is a result of our individual needs being satisfied so that we have inspiration to complete the mission. These needs vary from person to person as everybody has their individual needs to motivate themselves.
I believe education is a building process, everything from kindergarten through my college years has let me gained and expanded my education through not only learning facts and concepts, but also learning about myself. Through all that I have acquired, I believe Elementary Education is my true calling. My desire to pursue Education, specifically Elementary education came from a discovery of myself. As a college student you look for opportunities to gain knowledge and make a little extra cash on the side. When I took the opportunity to take a job for an after school elementary program called Bricks 4 Kidz, I never thought It would change my views on my major the way it did. I went into college with a mind set on Business Management thinking that was my true calling, but when I experienced how it feels to work with kids and how much I really enjoy it I started rethinking my major. When a student of mine grabbed my leg and begged me to not leave because he wanted me to stay and keep teaching was the moment I knew I was doing something right with my life and that Education was the perfect path for me.
Personally, being an educator gives me a chance to have a great impact on the world. I have always enjoyed seeing the look on someone’s face when they make a new connection or learn something. I have many strong beliefs in the education process and many times feel that the needs of the student are overlooked. As a teacher, the students would be priority and that is the backbone of my teaching philosophy. I know that I am not very experienced and have much to learn. This I will strive to do throughout my education and even when I enter the teacher workforce.
My primary reason for going to college is to have a higher chance for a more fulfilling future. I am getting my degree to be able to have a career in something I’m truly interested in, so I can have a job I won’t get tired of attending every day. Working minimum wage with long hours just to pay the rent isn’t the kind of life I look forward too. Just the thought of being successful by doing something I love is enough motivation to continue going to school and pursuing my degree; not many people get to say that they’ve accomplished that. Getting this degree will not only prepare me for my future job, but I will be qualified to get one as soon as I graduate.
When children are learning there education it is very important for the children to have all the motivation that they can handle as an individual child do to the way each child learns on a normal basis. Education comes in different formats so that each child would be able to learn on there own level.Motivation can be a pattern for some children because some children can learn better when they are being motivated. Children learning styles can take an effect on the way that they learn from what they are learning and how they learn it.The children learning comes from a variety of teaching activities that goes with there age and grade level. My entire life I always thought I would never go to college because I hated going to school every day. My school life was not ideal, it was full of people treating me like I am less of a person than everyone else. Little did I know that my now 2 year old would change my entire outlook on getting my degree and planning a career for myself. Colton, my son, has given me a reason to see a future in health care administration and to go back to school to obtain my goals as a clinical manager.
According to Greenberg (1999) motivation is defined "as a process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour towards a goal." Where directing' refers to the selection of a particular behaviour; and maintenance' refers to the inclination to behave with consistency in that manner until the desired outcome is met.
The purpose of education is for a student to develop character, mental abilities, and physical abilities. This is why school and education are so important, because without these skills one cannot live up to his/her full potential or even function in society. My purpose as a teacher is to give students opportunities to succeed and not to give grades. My purposes are to make students aware of their capabilities and by discovering these capabilities develop a sense of self. The students do this by pushing themselves or trying to their fullest extent. By trying his/her hardest they will know their limitations. These areas are the purpose of education.
“Motivation is a complex part of human psychology and behavior that influences how individuals choose to invest their time, how much energy they exert in any given task, how they think and feel about the task, and how long they persist at the task” (Urdan & Schoenfelder, 2006). The biggest question educators face in today’s classroom is what motivates a student to do something and why? Virtually all students are motivated in one way or another. Research of student motivation suggests a theory that emphasizes a social-cognitive perspective. The cognition of students regarding academic work are influenced by social factors, such as messages from the teacher about the difficulty of the task, the perceived abilities of classmates, and the information about the importance of learning the material (Urdan & Schoenfelder, 2006). In this paper the focus will primarily be on those elements within the classroom that influence student motivation and engagement.
I am very interested in pursuing my Masters Degree at some point, but my main goal is to get out into the school system as a teacher. The most important thing that I have learned in my life is the importance of education. Living in a world bursting with advantages and opportunities for those in education, I find it both a priority and a privilege to share the gift of knowledge with the future of society. Even more, I find it an honor to be able to have the chance.
It is first important to understand how motivation works in the classroom. There are infinite procedures teachers use to achieve desired effects from their students, but there are general patterns these motivational tools follow. In order for teachers to communicate with their students, they must identify with their needs on an individual basis (Gawel, 1997). This proposal is much akin to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, which states five basic needs that must be met in order to achieve full motivation. These needs, in ascending order, are as follows: physiological, security, love and belongingness, esteem and self-respect, and self-actualization (Gawel, 1997). Each of these needs details a very important issue in motivation inside the classroom and out.
Achievement Motivation Theory explores the idea that there are three major needs that working employees in
Motivation is really important tool in a learning environment. Also motivation effects student learning and their behavior as well. It directs behavior towards particular targets. Also it effect the decision which students takes. In motivation mainly we have two types which is intrinsically and extrinsically being motivated. For example: when a student is intrinsically motivated they just do it for themselves not because of the reward that they will get back. It’s just because they have their own interest and they enjoy doing that. On the other side, when a student is extrinsically motivated they just do it for the reward that they will get. That’s why in learning process it’s important that each student should
I chose to major in elementary education because of my love for children . I enjoy working with children, I feel that they have an entirely different way of looking at the world. I want to make a difference in the lives of children. I want to improve their lives, but at the same time make it fun and interesting instead of dull and tedious. Children naturally have a short attention span. I have worked in an elementary school for four years, and I have learned that to keep children entertained but at the same time teaching them.
