The Importance of Motivation in the Classroom
It is first important to understand how motivation works in the classroom. There are infinite procedures teachers use to achieve desired effects from their students, but there are general patterns these motivational tools follow. In order for teachers to communicate with their students, they must identify with their needs on an individual basis (Gawel, 1997). This proposal is much akin to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, which states five basic needs that must be met in order to achieve full motivation. These needs, in ascending order, are as follows: physiological, security, love and belongingness, esteem and self-respect, and self-actualization (Gawel, 1997). Each of these needs details a very important issue in motivation inside the classroom and out.
Maslow's first need of physiological sufficiency is very basic. This issue simply asks if the students are comfortable in their environment. That is, are they hungry, too cold, too hot? If a student?s physical environment does not match appropriately with the student?s need, he will not be motivated to learn or to achieve any higher need. Similarly, if the student does not feel safe (via the second need, security), they will not focus on working. If a student feels threatened by another student or by the teacher, he may not progress as well as hoped and in many cases, he reverts from the instruction rather than responding to it. In order to alleviate feelings of danger, a teacher can show protection and love, which is the third hierarchal need. A student must feel safe and invited in a classroom for him to achieve; making a classroom seem like a prison elicits the antithesis of motivation: lassitude.

Considered the most faithful screen adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the 1995 BBC adaptation nevertheless takes liberties in adding scenes and dialogue. In most cases, the storyline justifies these supplementary features. These scenes provide extra information on characters that many readers may not discover. The added scenes and dialogue in BBC's Pride and Prejudice serve to enhance the viewer's understanding of the historic novel by further describing inter-character relationships and by fleshing out their personalities. This allows the audience to fully comprehend aspects of the story that only reading the story would provide.
‘Pride and Prejudice' first appeared between 1796 and 1797 under the title, ‘First Impressions'. At first, the novel was written anonymously; however, after Jane Austen's death, the novel became publicly known to people. The novel itself is a comedy of manners set in a quiet and charming rural England, between 1796 and 1813; to be exact, Pride and Prejudice is set amidst Napoleonic Wars, dating from 1797 up to 1815. In Austen's words, the novel was ‘light and bright and sparkling'. The quote from William Shakespeare best describes the love stories of Jane Bennet and Charles Bingley; Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. They say that true love has challenges. Most couples start as bitter enemies at first then afterwards to lovers. This is exactly true about Lizzy and Darcy, since both of them dislike each other. However through the course of time, they eventually learned to care for each other and their mistakes made them a strong couple. Jane and Bingley also found true happiness since both Darcy and Elizabeth approves of their affair. The novel starts with Mr. Bennet, the patriarch and the owner of Longbourn, the Bennet's family estate. He is the spouse of Mrs. Bennet, an ill-bred woman of lowly upbringing. She is a noisy, tiresome and foolish woman driven with a desire to see all of her daughters secured with their future husbands. Their residence is near the fictional town of Meryton, the place where the militia lives with civilians. Since their residence is near the headquarters and ordinary people, it is not surprising that most of the family, excluding Jane and Lizzy, have intolerable mannerisms....

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, which is generally depicted as a pyramid, is broken down into deficiency needs and growth needs. The first four levels (deficiency needs) are physiological, safety, belongingness and love, and esteem (Huitt, 2007). These cover the essential basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, security, acceptance, and recognition. Maslow also identified four growth needs: cognitive, aesthetic, self-actualization, and self-transcendence (Huitt, 2007). It is only after the basic needs are met that humans devote time and effort into knowledge (cognitive) and beauty (aesthetics). The novel Pride and Prejudice describes how the preconception and first impressions of the main characters change throughout the work. This shines exceedingly true to us if we delve into the history of the novel and Jane Austen’s motives for writing the work. This is shown to us whenwe see that the novel was first titled First Impressions. The titles, the both of them, firmly embody every theme and motif of the novel. Whichever title Jane austen would have chosen would have easily given the reader immense amounts of insight into the work before even taking it off the shelf.

Chanel was underestimated by many people who said that her designs and creativeness were so unconventional, that she would make no profit or impact on fashion. However, because of Coco Chanel’s creativity she proved her critics wrong. Coco Chanel changed the face of modern fashion with her unique views of clothing.

Mary, one of the younger Bennet daughters explains early in the novel that "vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us" (pg 19). By the end of the novel, Elizabeth learns that having these prejudices against Darcy for one simple character trait, vanity (in which she ironically contained herself) was wrong, especially since it wasn't based on firsthand experience. Through Elizabeth, Austen conveys the message of how first impressions and judgments can quickly form false prejudices and uses the title, Pride and Prejudice to support this message.
Pride and Prejudice is written in 3rd person omniscient, which allows the reader to delve into the minds of more than one character. The narrator can be persuasive and influential, (this is most common during passages of large summary) although at other times a ‘silent observer’/goes without commentary, (During character dialogue) however the ‘point of view’ becomes more focused through the character of Elizabeth. The narrator has control of selection of detail, and chooses what the reader is entitled to see. (Eg selects the incidents we see, and finds the words to describe them.)
Student motivation can be affected by several factors. These elements include parent involvement, teacher enthusiasm, rewards, peers, the learner’s environment, personal experiences, personal interests of the student, and self-esteem and self-image.
