On February 9th I went to event help on campus called Mocktail Hour. I chose this event because it was suggested by the teacher, and it had to do with STEM majors. I am currently going to school for engineering and this event had relations to my major. I thought it would be the perfect event to take advantage of because it was the closest one to me and lots of information about my major. The drinks they offered also were a great bonus.

This event further confirmed my interest in becoming an engineer. There were other great topics discussed throughout, but engineering is the one I wanted to hear. It has been the career the I have wanted to do for the longest time. I believe this event had a positive impact on my career goals. There was two …show more content…

Also the non-alcoholic mimosas and fruit was not bad either. I thought it was a great idea to include that instead of having a plain event which many more people would have left much earlier. During the event I felt very comfortable talking with others. I tried to present myself more professionally than I normally am. This is because the major is a respected one so I wanted to try to bring myself up to that level. Even with that I had no problem talking to other. This one gentleman in particular stood out to me. I was informed that he was an engineer that came to own his own company. I do not remember his name nor the university in where he graduated from. However, I do remember what he talked about. He was talking to a few of us that circled around him to hear his ideas. He talked mostly about what the future would hold for us younger generation. The task and abilities this new technology would allow us to do. He talked specifically on sending messages. We would not have to use a physical phone to send a message but something else. The technology would allow us to see messages right in front of our eyes using glasses or contact lenses that portrayed what a typical phone would show. There was more he talked about and I was just thrown back by all that would soon be possible. It reminded me that engineers have to be open to so many different ways of getting things down and how thigs are down. You can not afford to be closed to crazy, absurd ideas as an engineer. It also brought me hope that here is much more to do. It is exciting to think that I will one day help with the creation of what we think of now as a futuristic
