In the book Mistakes Were Made But Not by Me, there are several aspects that could be rendered the most important, but the one that stood out to me most was self justification and how practicing it could hurt people a lot more than they are aware of. Self justification is when you do something wrong and then you try to make up an excuse rather than talk about the mistake and figure out how it could be resolved next time. This is important because if everyone would just take ownership and learn from their mistakes rather than commit the same error over and over again than society would be a lot better off. This is because people could always be working towards a better goal rather than worrying about the mishaps they’ve had in the past. Another
I believe the most important concept that I gained from reading the book was to remain faithful, in good times and in bad. Walking blindly can be very terrifying, but God always has a plan for each and every one of us. At times, the plan remains unseen, and that should not deter or slow me on the path that my heart is yearning
I have only read four books my entire life for school, but this is one is the best I have read. There were numerous things that I learned from the book. The one that hit me the hardest was it's hard to see people living in shame because they can cover it up really well, almost like it doesn’t bother them at all. I grew up in a middle class family and simply didn't understand what it meant to be so broke that you are ashamed to be around people who have money. The thought never crossed my mind, ever.
Although this book had no major affect on me, I learned how a boy can go through traumatic experiences and still have the will power to keep going on. That was the only thing that really affected me in the whole book.
emotions and subtle nuances provided by the author in the book, and many of the deeper feelings and emotions therein are missed entirely, or touched on much too briefly
This book really brings to light the neglect that some people are raised with. The thought that someone could come out of such a negligent past with compassion and understanding instead of bitterness is truly inspiring.... ... middle of paper ... ...
... class. This book was actually one of most interesting books I’ve read while I’ve been in college, and this course kept me interested the whole semester. The things it has taught me about the meaning of reading and evaluating other people and their personalities and who they really are. It actually came to mind a couple times, maybe I want to be a psychologist and help people with their problems. It just really amazes me how Perry’s dad can literally be the cause of four innocent lives gone. Throughout reading the book and watching both films, I began better at reading people and observing their personalities not only with the characters in the book but also outside the classroom and in the real world. The fact that everyone has a story and reasons they are the way they are. Perry had a story that no one knew about, and it has just taught me that everyone has one
I believe that one theme of this book is, that you should always watch what you say, how you
The results all show what mistakes were mistaken. This novel explains failure in a very organized way because of the fact that the protagonist does not believe in success. This quote "We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars"(Pg.127) reveals that everyone is in the hole meaning people start off weak but only those who have hope has the passion of success. There are times when a person feels down or hurt and just wishes that everything in the world is gone. This is just a thought and a thought can never overcome a person. "I hope the snow covers everything so all the footsteps are silenced, and the whole city can be at peace,"(Pg.325) explains that people who have been stressed out just want silence. Failing is not the key in life because it just ends up trashing up someone's life apart if a person has no hope in him or herself. "Fairy tales only happen in movies," (Pg165) reveals that the world is trying to express to the audience that everything is running smoothly and nothing is a concern. Actually, this statement is incorrect because everyone is different and everyone does fail but most of the population knows that failing is just a mistake and it is not the end of the
My favorite part of the book was the chapter on “Ethics.” I believe my moral compass will guide me in the work place, amongst many other places. For example; the ENTJ, is said to be driven by success. If I do get into a corporate position or become a politician, I’m sure there will be bribes and offers that require me to compromise my beliefs for a move up “the ladder.” As a believing Christian I’ll be sure to look out for possible avenues of temptation although; I’m sure I won’t make such dreadful mistakes, the information I’ve gained from my research makes me want to be all the more
There are many moral lessons demonstrated in the novel The Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne is able to get the point across that it is better to confess your sins rather than hide them. It may ruin ones reputation, or destroy a career, but it is better for yourself than to live in guilt forever. This is proven significantly through Hester Prynne at the end of the novel. Hester is able to overcome her sin and learn from her mistakes. She is discovered to be a woman who helps others and eventually regains the respect of the town. She is eventually is finally accepted by herself, society, and God.
“Nobody’s perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. But some mistakes will teach you great lessons and make you a better person”. Mistakes occur in different forms, they can be minor or world-changing. But no matter how much or how little a mistake has impacted a life, humans must learn from them in order to improve. Humans must learn from the mistakes they make and the problem they see. Even in the fictional world, characters are making errors. From the mistakes characters make in different short stories, the characters and readers can both learn a lesson from them.
Learning plays an essential role in life. We learn something new everyday. In Frank O'Connor's short story "The First Confession", Jackie, the main character, learns a lesson he'll always remember. After Jackie's first confession, he could now be confident that he was not such a sinner, and that Nora, his sister, was wrong. While people focused on Jackie's own wrong doings, they weren't focusing on their own wrong actions. Sometimes people's ignorance can bring them into a whole different reality. Through certain characters and different incidents, O'Connor stresses his theme that people's ignorance can blind them from their own sins.
We all have what the author states as inciting incidents in our lives that have impacted us more than we realize. This is what makes
...make you feel inferior without your consent.” We often carry on an internal dialogue with ourselves in which we criticize ourselves. Self-criticism is the most popular form of criticism. We focus on negative aspects of behavior, instead of evaluating ourselves both positively and negatively. One needs touse self-criticism to inspire oneself to new heights, not to lows. Often we defeat ourselves by focusing on criticism rather than a remedy. We are usually too general: “ I made a mess of everything.”
A self is some sort of inner being or principle, essential to, but not identical with, the person as whole. It is that in a person that thinks and feels. The self is usually conceived in philosophy as that which one refer to with the word “I”. It is that part or aspects of a person that accounts for personal identity through time. In spite of all the ways one can change with time, the self is invariably same through time. A self is what is supposed to account for the fact that an individual is same person today as he/she was at the age of five, given that all his characteristics have changed over time. For instance, compared to his childhood, this individual is stronger, taller, and smarter; he has different aspirations and dreams, different thoughts and fears, his interests and activities are remarkably different. Yet, he is still the same ...
