In the book “Chase the Lion” by New York best-selling author Mark Batterson you will learn that setting God sized goals, pursuing God given passions, and going after God sized dreams that require Him to intercede, is a lion chaser life to greater faith and courage. The book follows the story of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada found in the book of 2 Samuel. Benaiah on a snowy day chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. It is not everyday that we have this kind of courage. The question is, “what would our lives look like if we would chase after five hundred pound dreams with the same courage Benaiah exampled?” We all have what the author states as inciting incidents in our lives that have impacted us more than we realize. There was twenty-five years from the day God promised Abraham a son until the birth of Isaac. We can have a dream but there are proving grounds that
God will take us to our dream. It is in these proving grounds that God does miracles and after each one we can believe in Him for bigger and better miracles. Hearing a lion roar our first instincts would be to run. In the case of our dreams we are to run towards the roar. Now, if your going to run towards the roar you better make sure God has told you, “Come.” Knowing if God is calling you takes time in His word and time with Him. We can be afraid and run away from our dreams but we will be running for the remainder of our life or we could chose chase the lion. If we are going to be lion chasers we have to be more focused on missing opportunities than making mistakes. Your five hundred pound dream will inspire people, but having large dreams also puts you in a place of criticism and at times dream jealousy. It is important to understand that dreamers will have naysayers and you will have to learn to filter those comments through scripture first. You also can’t please everyone; at the end of the day God gave you the vision and it probably cost you something. Batterson expresses the cost of forfeiting a full-ride scholarship to the University of Chicago to go to Central Bible College. If we give up on dreaming it not only changes our present-tense reality but also our future-tense potential. I know for myself this book has challenged me so much in my faith and my ability to step out more and see God do mighty miracles. Since I have read this book I have stepped out in huge ways and seen God do some crazy miracles that I didn’t think were possible. I know that when God is calling me to something and He opens the door that He will literally take care of every situation. But that doesn’t happen without me taking steps of faith and working towards my goal. I will continue to re-read this book over and over because it is such a thought provoking and empowering book. Maybe you are in a place of playing it safe, you’re comfortable where you are and are afraid to pursue your dream. You have had dreams of doing something that God is calling you to do but you are so afraid of taking that first step out. I would challenge you to read this book and gain more practical ways of how you could conquer those dreams and make a large
