You all know the Chocolate Company: Hershey's; but where did it all begin? As with Walt Disney, it started with a dream. A dream that a certain person could rule the candy market. This certain person is Milton Snavely Hershey. Milton Hershey founded Hershey’s Chocolate Company in 1900. Did you know that his first product wasn't chocolate? No, he created and sold many other confections; his greatest being caramel. His highest achievement of all was creating the world's largest candy manufacturing company today. Milton S. Hershey learned most of his work from Joe Royer, the owner of an Ice Cream Parlor and Garden. Joe Royer taught Milton for four years until he quit. Milton didn't quit because he didn't like the apprenticeship. No, he quit to start his own confectionary business. Milton S. Hershey gave this world a company that changed the way we see chocolate today. Milton Snavely Hershey was born on September 13th, 1857. Hershey didn’t start off with candy right away. Young Milton was sometimes very clumsy and made mistakes. Sam Ernst, a person who started Milton off with an appren...
Hershey impacted the world in a huge way. A farm boy from Derry Church became an aspiring candy maker with only schooling up to fourth grade. Milton found his calling at a young age and went with it following a path that lead him to great success. With all his wealth and success he did not become arrogant, he decided to use his wealth and power to help others. His actions have impacted society tremendously. We still see his name on candy wrappers today and we will for a long time. 1886 was the year that Hershey’s legacy began with the establishment of the Lancaster Caramel Company. The rest is
Dickens uses verbal irony in his description of the Monseigneur’s chocolate ritual by showing that he must have four men prepare his hot chocolate. If only three men to prepare his hot chocolate it is difficult for him to swallow it. “Yes. It took four men, all four a-blaze with gorgeous decoration”(108). This quote shows how Monseigneur needs specifically four men because each man has one job it has to do like give Monseigneur a napkin, “presented the favoured napkin”(108). “Monseigneur could swallow many things with ease, and was by some few sullen minds supposed to rather be rapidly swallowing France” (108). Dickens uses irony to show the ridiculous situation of the ritual to how France is being destroyed. He uses this to show the contrast as a lord to a servant.
Milton Hershey is best known for being the creator of Hershey’s chocolate. However, he has accomplished more than concocting caramels and candies. Mr. Hershey was a philanthropist, someone who has an aspiration to aid people and end social problems. They do so by donating large amounts of their personal fortune to help people or things, somewhat like a charity, but the purpose is for it to last a long time rather than just for a while. Likewise, Milton Hershey was a caring man who sought to make life better for people, whether they be man, woman, or child.
Why would a person decide to betray the beliefs they had fought so hard for? In Robert Cormiers novel The Chocolate War, the character of Jerry Renault changes drastically from a rebel to a follower in the end. The school gang known as the vigils and his moral beliefs motivates Jerry’s actions. He feels he must take a stand against evil. Jerry can be considered a hero because of his beliefs. In the end however he gives in to the things he fought against and becomes a follower.
Madelyn McQueen - Twin Falls Idaho Have you ever wondered how the delicious, classic treat came to be? Well, any event you can think of after the date of 1938, the cookie was bound to be there. Several stories about how the country’s favorite baked good came to be, have been spread and believed by thousands. For example, Ruth Wakefield unexpectedly ran out of nuts for a regular ice-cream cookie recipe and, in desperation, replaced them with chunks chopped out of a bar of Nestle bittersweet chocolate. Another story is said that the vibrations from an industrial mixer caused chocolate stored on a shelf in the Toll House kitchen to fall into a bowl of cookie dough as it was being mixed. Sadly, all of these stories are false, says Carolyn Wyman in her recently published “Great American Chocolate Chip Cookie Book.” In her book, Wyman offers a more believable version of how the cookie came to be. Wyman argues, that Ruth Wakefield, who had a degree in household arts and a reputation for perfectionism, would not have allowed her restaurant, which was famed for its desserts, to run out of such
The founhder of the company, Godfrey Keebler, started with jus a small bakery in Philadelphia, PA in 1853. During the next two generations, local bakeries popped up around the country, including Strietmann, Hekman, Supreme and Bowman. With the introduction of cars and trucks (carrying the Keebler logo), bakery goods could be distributed beyond the neighborhood and regional distribution began.
Milton Hershey was not the type of person that anyone would have viewed as a leader, or shrewd businessman. Being born into a rather poor lower class family, he was not very well educated. The one thing that we do know for sure though, is that leaders are not born, they are made. This is exactly the case of Milton Hershey, and because of his undying determination to succeed, he became one of the greatest success stories of all time.
What do you think of when you hear the word kiss? Milton Hershey did not want you to think of the romantic gesture of lips smacking together. Instead he invented the Hershey Kiss. This great invention is mouthwatering, milk chocolate that millions of people consume every year. The famous Kiss was invented in 1907 by Milton S. Hershey. Hershey wanted to intertwine romance and his passion of making chocolate. This chocolate sensation became popular for its odd tear-shaped piece of chocolate. Hershey Kisses have evolved into the fascinating chocolates people continue eating today. The multimillion dollar company continues to expand its candy making. The Hershey’s Chocolate Company took time to develop, but once they came
Many people often meet different characters in literature and in life that they admire or despise. They conclude if those characters are good or evil and at the same time they reflect on the choices and responsibilities that those characters have. From The Chocolate War I admire Roland Goubert or The Goober based on his actions. I despise Archie Costello (The Assigner of The Vigils) because of the choices that he made and also because of his actions.

one of the wealthiest men in America. Wrigley started out as a soap salesman in his native Philadelphia. After moving to Chicago in 1891, he began offering store owners incentives to stock his products, such as free cans of baking powder with every order. When the baking powder proved a bigger hit than the soap, Wrigley sold that instead, and added in free packs of chewing gum as a promotion. In 1893, he launched two new gum brands, Juicy Fruit and Wrigley’s Spearmint. Because the chewing gum field had grown crowded with competitors, Wrigley decided he’d make his products stand out by spending heavily on advertising and direct-marketing. In 1915, the Wrigley Company kicked off a campaign in which it sent free samples of its gum to millions of Americans listed in phone books. Another promotion entailed sending sticks of gum to U.S. children on their second
