Milton Hershey is best known for being the creator of Hershey’s chocolate. However, he has accomplished more than concocting caramels and candies. Mr. Hershey was a philanthropist, someone who has an aspiration to aid people and end social problems. They do so by donating large amounts of their personal fortune to help people or things, somewhat like a charity, but the purpose is for it to last a long time rather than just for a while. Likewise, Milton Hershey was a caring man who sought to make life better for people, whether they be man, woman, or child. school. , It was to be a boarding school for orphan boys, and they would be able to learn trades and prepare for the future, along with getting a good education and being cared for. , , In a way, these students would be Hershey’s heirs. Milton Hershey wanted to spare children the pains he had dealt with as an adolescent, for he did not have an education beyond grade four, and he had to find different jobs to support his family in his early teens. , In the year 1918, three years after the death of his wife, Hershey gave his entire personal fortune to the Milton Hershey School—about sixty million dollars. , The other main philanthropy Mr.
Hershey accomplished in his lifetime was creating the town of Hershey, Pennsylvania. After selling his caramel business around the year 1900, Milton decided to build a factory that would mass-produce his recipe for milk chocolate. Three years later his chocolate business broke ground when he moved to Derry Church in the middle of Pennsylvania, which was dairy farming land. Hershey wanted to build an entire town around his factory so that his workers would be able to live there. He had the idea to build the town about six years after being in operation when he had retained about two million dollars from his company. Milton envisioned a place that provided his employees with their every need. Part of the construction of his town took place during the Great Depression. Hershey came up with his Great Building Campaign—a way to improve the local economy during those hard times. He gave jobs to over six hundred workers so they would build major attractions in the town, such as the Hershey Sports Arena, Hotel Hershey, and the Hershey Community Theatre. , Mr. Hershey made sure that no one was laid off in his town during the Great
Depression. Milton Hershey had given away so much of his fortune that when he died in 1945 he had a meager amount of personal wealth. , However, his name was known worldwide because of what he gave to people: the town, the school, and the chocolate bar.
He created his original cookies, which was passed on to him by his deceased aunt. Many African Americans during this time didn’t own business, let alone a famous cookie business. Amos already had a strategy because during his work as a talent agent and
Hershey impacted the world in a huge way. A farm boy from Derry Church became an aspiring candy maker with only schooling up to fourth grade. Milton found his calling at a young age and went with it following a path that lead him to great success. With all his wealth and success he did not become arrogant, he decided to use his wealth and power to help others. His actions have impacted society tremendously. We still see his name on candy wrappers today and we will for a long time. 1886 was the year that Hershey’s legacy began with the establishment of the Lancaster Caramel Company. The rest is
Before Milton Hershey had a world wide known chocolate business, he had a small, not so well known caramel business. Milton Hershey began his chocolate making business in 1893, when his father and him traveled to Chicago to attend a big job fair (Tarshis 14), but it wasn’t until 1900 when Hershey succeed in making the first milk chocolate candy bar (The Hershey Company). Hershey attended an exhibit hall of new and amazing inventions around the world at the fair in Chicago. As Hershey walked into the exhibit hall, he was struck by a delectable smell (Tarshis 14). “Hershey was already a leading candy maker. He had created the largest caramel factory in the country, but he became convinced that the future of his business would be chocolate. At the fair in Chicago, Hershey Bought chocolate-making equipment. He had it shipped back to his caramel factory in Pennsylvania. Then he hired two chocolate makers. Soon the company was churning out chocolate candies in more than 100 shapes” (Tarshis 15).
A dynamic character is defined as a character who undergoes an important change in their personality or attitude. The great protagonists in literature often go through an intense internal conflict, resulting in the character being perplexed as to which path is the right one to follow. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury follows a protagonist, Guy Montag, as he struggles with the choice between carrying on living in a brainwashed society or developing his own perspective on life, thus contributing to the theme of knowledge overpowering ignorance.
“To design is to communicate clearly by whatever means you can control or master.” These words by Milton Glaser are the perfect embodiment of his work over the years. He was able to spread his message through his works of art by being simplistic and straight to the point. This simple ideology of is the reason that he is such a renowned figure in the graphic design community, and around the world, even though his name may not be known by all, his works of art have been shared, and loved by the world. He clearly is a master of modern/ abstract design, along with communicating to his audience.
For Milton Hershey, he was the type of person that not a lot of people expected a whole lot out of. He was your typical small town boy, and although he had very little growing up, he learned to be happy with what he was given. Although Milton Hershey, did grow to be an amazing businessman, he had almost no formal schooling or education after being thirteen years of age. He left school to work, and also to help take care with his mother. It was while Milton was growing up, that his father (Henry) left his mother. In many ways, it was Henry, Milton’s father, who inspired him to be the type of leader he was, and to never give up, no matter how many times he failed. While Milton was still growing up, Henry tried getting in on the oil business that was going on at the time. While he did learn a lot from the experience, he walked away empty handed. The problem that Milton could see with his father, was that he was bursting full of ideas, but he had no money, and was growing older as time went on.
George Milton is a round character, although he is a round character he is also static meaning he doesn't really change throughout the story. For example, to show he is a round character,"’Aw Lennie!’ George put his hand on Lennie’s shoulder.’I ain’t takin it away jus’ for meanness’" (Steinbeck 9). This verifies George showing kindness towards Lennie. He wanted Lennie not to feel sad about the mouse. Another way George has shown his emotions is when he killed Lennie,”The hand shook violently but his face set and his hand steadied” (Steinbeck 106). George displays his round emotion when he felt resent, sadness, and fear when he was forced to kill Lennie. George didn’t want to kill his best friend, but in the end he wanted Lennie to die happily.
“I guess the revolutionary thing we did was to take the position that there is no single voice capable of expressing every idea, that romance is still necessary, ornament is necessary, and simplification is not better than complexity.” This was Milton Glaser’s philosophy. Milton Glaser is a graphic designer who created the “I Heart NY” logo, the Brooklyn Brewery logo and a famous Bob Dylan poster. His art was a reflection of the times. Established in the 60’s, the decade was indeed a time for experimentation and non-conventionalism. This was demonstrated no greater than through the rise of social equality and prolific drug use. Women’s, homosexual, and African-American rights were pursued with a tenacity equaled only by soldiers wrapped in an unjust conflict. This is to say that the social repression U.S. citizens had undergone previously would no longer be accepted. Meanwhile, psychedelic drug use had taken a great rise, sexual expression was at an all time high, and the nation was appalled with its involvement in the Vietnam War. This push for liberation and true freedom was what motivated and inspired Milton Glaser.

He had one big accomplishment which many people know Hershey candy and candy bars with many different flavors. He died October 13th,1945 he still has Hershey factories on earth still making candy though. He didn’t have much money at first when he started the successful Hershey shop but he did great as we all know. He didn’t like opening his shops after he failed because he didn’t want to fail again but like the saying goes “ try and try again”.
Mr. Hershey treated his employees exceptionally well, ever since he first opened his business. His personal philosophy revolved around sharing wealth with others and helping who he could. Even in the Great Depression he employed as many people as he could. His business helped support an entire town, built around his factory.
