In the military, there are two separate groups; Enlisted and Officers. These two groups work hand in hand in each of the departments, whether it be Army, Navy, Air Force, or the Marines in order to assure that our national security is not at stake and to secure our liberties that we possess as American citizens. This being so, every soldier must possess particular qualities in order to succeed later on down the road, which is key in order to make good decisions on the battlefield and find the best route for soldiers to take. Military life is quite regimented and a lot is expected of any soldier; especially officers. As this is the case, officers have to be fluid with their reactions to different situations and must have the ability to work as a team. In any branch of the military, teamwork is essential to the success of the mission and each soldier must carry out their duty in order for the mission to be effectively completed. If any soldier fails to carry out their assigned task, it could jeopardize the mission and put lives at risk. An officer in the military needs to be especially careful and need to not only make sure that they personally are performing their assigned tasks to par, but also make sure that their rest of their team is doing their jobs and so that the mission will not …show more content…
An officer must display discipline in order to be a good soldier and follow the orders which they are assigned. The purpose of this is to keep the command structure in check and make sure that everyone within the military knows their job and their purpose, and knows where they stand on the hierarchy. The importance of this hierarchy is so that officers of any rank know who to follow orders from, and who they have the authority to give orders to. Accountability….What does it mean? Well this past month e lost two soldiers who are a part of our unit and voice of our unit pass away. Accountability is important and should not be taken lightly… A soldier lost his life a couple weeks ago, due to lack of accountability, and it hurt a lot of people. For so many reasons accountability is important, for example. Knowing where your soldiers are at all times helps to know what they’re doing, and what their interest are doing so. In case something happens and someone needs t know where a soldier is accountability comes into play. Army Regulation 600-20 IAW Discipline. Why is discipline so important? Because to be accounted for is a part of disciplinary actions.
As the incoming brigade commander, LTC (P) Owens, I see the critical leadership problem facing the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) is the inability or unwillingness of Colonel Cutler to lead and manage change effectively. As a Non-commissioned Officer you can expect me to be a professional leader dedicated to taking care of soldiers, the mission, and the army way of life. You can expect me to use Army Regulations, Technical Manuals, and direct orders from my superiors as my guidance on what actions to take in each situation faced whether tactical or technical. I will not be afraid to make sound and timely decisions in the absence of my leadership’s orders. When left in charge I will take charge.
In June 2013 Army Doctrine Reference Publication 1 (ADRP1) “The Army Profession” was released and the website http://cape.army.mil was created. In (ADRP1), it states there are five essential characteristics of the Army Profession, trust, military expertise, honorable service, Esprit de Corps, and stewardship (ADRP1, 2013). Those characteristics is what I think separates a Soldier from a civilian. No one should think that their job or occupation is harder or more important than someone else’s. It takes all kinds of professions to make this country work but the Army could not be as successful as it is today without our professionals teaching, coaching, mentoring and preserving these five characteristics.
Discipline is highly important and embedded in each facet of the Marine Corps' Core Values. During the introduction to military life, customs and courtesies are taught before, if not in tandem with, military discipline. In other words, discipline cannot survive without actively recognizing the established hierarchy. The simple act of acknowledging of an officer shows the most basic and important sign of respect for authority. Only through this base realization of authority can discipline be effective.
Respect is probably the most important trait that needs to be shown towards your superiors. Every Armed forces branch in the United States of America has a chain of command in which respect is the main premise behind the entire organization. Respect backs the ideals and leadership within any chain of command. Respect is important in the design of the military system itself. You have to automatically trust and do what higher ranking cadet, or any cadre member says because they hold power and most likely have more experience then you. You must show them respect to because they have more knowledge and know how, not to mention they have earned the stop they are in. Respect also tires into the worrier’s ethos, which is an important aspect of what it means to be a member of the army.
Being a good soldiers also required you to, follow the rules, follow orders, obey the code of conducts, look out for your fellow comrades, fulfill your duty requirement, being honest and fight for your country. In other words, a soldier must be committed. Committed to their work, the nation, the mission, their fellow servicemen and their unit. With these characteristics, a soldier can become successful.
As becoming an officer in the military, there are abounding roles and positions that will be expected of all officers to perform. Military officers are to be a member of an armed force and to hold a position of authority. There will be roles to be performed that do not have a right or wrong answer, but an officer will take action to perform his or her role and take responsibility of their action.
I feel that the proper recruiting skills are essential to building a stronger Army. You can't have one without the other. According to Rosen (2017), “Bad employees not only affect an employer by driving down sales, but they cost the company unwanted expenses due to negligence or simple lack of motivation”. The same would be true as the Army is in the process of recruitment for good soldiers. For instance, the Army provides humanitarian services during natural disasters and other types of disasters such as floods, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, conducts rescue operations etc. During these missions, the Army provides help for the victims. Military Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. Self discipline in the military is where soldiers do the 4 rights without being told, even in the absence of the commander. Discipline is created within a unit by instilling a sense of confidence and responsibility in each individual. To strengthen discipline, senior leaders need to give praise to their subordinates, either individually or as a whole, for tasks done well. By doing this, it will accomplish every commanders goal of having a unit that functions well and builds a bond which binds together the team. Everything in life requires some sort of discipline. Whether it is hitting a baseball, learning to sew , playing a musical instrument, making good grades or brushing your teeth it all comes down to a matter of discipline.
