Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I have always had a dream of joining the Military. Even though it was a choice, to join the Military, I had no knowledge or inside information about what it would be for me to be a part of it. I say this especially because requirements and specifics of being a part of the Army.
It wasn't until 2005 when I decided to join the United States Army, and this when all my concerns and questions were answered during recruitment. My Recruiter explained and guided me through the whole process of entering and prepping for the Army. It was my confidence and the motivation of my Recruiter that made it possible for me to join the Military as I proudly wear this uniform today.
I believe that becoming a member of the United States Army Recruiting Team is a great honor and needs for one to have the physical and mental toughness to perform efficiently in his or her job. I feel that the proper recruiting skills are essential to building a stronger Army. You can't have one without the other. According to Rosen (2017), “Bad employees not only affect an employer by driving down sales, but they cost the company unwanted expenses due to negligence or simple lack of motivation”. The same would be true as the Army is in the process of recruitment for good soldiers. For instance, the Army provides humanitarian services during natural disasters and other types of disasters such as floods, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, conducts rescue operations etc. During these missions, the Army provides help for the victims. The United States Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) consists of 26 Navy Recruiting Districts (NRDs) spread out throughout the Continental United States. One of the largest Recruiting Districts is NRD San Diego, which consists of 55 recruiting stations spread out throughout San Diego, Riverside, Orange County, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Yuma Arizona. The obvious mission is to recruit men and women to join the United States Navy. According to NRC webpage (2015), their mission is to “recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to accomplish today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges” (pr. 1), Obviously, NRD San Diego shares the same mission, but there are different set of unique challenges, which trickle up from each recruiting station. Although I grew up in a military family, I never saw myself going into a military career. Up until I was about fourteen years old, I planned on being a marine biologist in Hawaii. Sounds nice, right? Well, at the end of my eighth grade year I decided that I might as well join NJROTC, because all of my friends were doing it and it seemed okay. I have to say, looking back, I was quite naive. Joining NJROTC was the smartest and most valuable decision I have made to this day.
Less than one percent of all Americans enlisted in the military. An even smaller percentage of high school students are enrolled. Students are thought to be incompetent, and not mature enough to decide on enlisting in the military. However, students should be allowed to join the military. Conscription, also known as drafting, is a practice that requires mandatory enlisting into any of the branches of the armed forces. This practice has been adopted by the United States at the very least two times before and from what I can remember during World War II and the Civil War conscription was being practiced. Nowadays conscription is not practiced in the United States because there isn’t a need for it. Now, if you want to join the army you can do so by volunteering. However, there are people who believe conscription should be brought back. I am writing to you so share with you my reasons for not being conscripted to serve in the Vietnam War and why I don’t believe in conscription. I would like to explain my reasons for not wanting to be conscripted, I hope you take these reasons into serious consideration and understand why I am standing by my thoughts.
The occupation United States military recruiter is a respected occupation throughout the United States Army because of the sheer impact they have on the future of the proud United States military branch decorated in green and gold sanctioned as the Army. They’re level of concentration and patience is to be admired because of the amount of training they have to endure in order to amass the skills in order to become efficient and effective at they’re job.

Many people and groups are against the military sending recruiters to high schools. Groups who oppose military recruiters being allowed in high schools argue that the recruiters intentionally misinform and manipulate students into signing up. An article written by ABC News, offers proof that recruiters are lying and manipulating future graduates. The US military acknowledges that some recruiters do indeed lie and manipulate potential recruits, but they do not support them and they are working to fix that issue. For many reasons, including the previously stated, groups such as the Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools (CAMS) have been trying to inhibit the military’s ability to recruit in high schools.
I grew up in a small town and after I graduated high school I wanted more in life than a 9 to 5 job; I wanted to see the world. I had a few friends that had joined the military and had come home to visit with exciting stories about their experiences. I noticed a change in a few of them; they seemed to walk a little taller, maybe act a bit more mature. This, along with the intrigue of life outside of my small town, drew me to consider joining the military. I met a recruiter in Lakeland Florida in July of 1989 and a few months later on September 26th I raised my right hand and took the Oath of Enlistment. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into.
"Army Strong": The Army Will Tear You Down, It's Up to You to Build Yourself Back Up! I joined the United States Army Reserves when I was seventeen years old. I did not join because I wanted to be a soldier; I joined because I wanted to earn money to go to college. The effect that this endeavor made upon my life has changed who I am forever.
The United States has long been known for having a military presence that few would dare to challenge. The catalyst has not been in having billions in defense funds, it has not been in having huge weapons of mass destruction, it is the heart and spirit of the soldier. I am very proud to be a part of this long and proud tradition of upholding the ideals set forth in the U.S. Constitution. It is something that I would recommend to all willing and able college students. It instills a sense of pride and satisfaction that is matched by no other. As a soldier, there are many options as far as what type of soldier you wish to be. It is similar to choosing a career in the civilian world. The first step in this process is choosing your military branch. There are four main branches in the military; the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.
Physical training is a very essential part of the army culture. Physical fitness has a direct influence on their combat readiness which also ties into needing to be mentally and physically tough. Being physically fit allows you to be productive and also gives you the opportunity to enjoy even the little things in life. It also allows you to be able to adapt and survive through tough living conditions. Having the proper diet and exercise can improve a person’s quality of life. Maintaining a high level of fitness helps you perform at higher levels throughout your life. Healthy muscles are less susceptible to to injury, less likely to tear and give in to stress. Which is why it’s important to take care of your body. Soldiers who don’t meet military fitness standards risk being discharged or maybe disciplinary actions.
