Physical training is a very essential part of the army culture. Physical fitness has a direct influence on their combat readiness which also ties into needing to be mentally and physically tough. Being physically fit allows you to be productive and also gives you the opportunity to enjoy even the little things in life. It also allows you to be able to adapt and survive through tough living conditions. Having the proper diet and exercise can improve a person’s quality of life. Maintaining a high level of fitness helps you perform at higher levels throughout your life. Healthy muscles are less susceptible to to injury, less likely to tear and give in to stress. Which is why it’s important to take care of your body. Soldiers who don’t meet military fitness standards risk being discharged or maybe disciplinary actions.
As a cadet in ROTC I got to witness firsthand how not being physically fit can interfere with your military duties. Physical fitness is important because you have to be able to perform your job efficiently and at a fast pace. Along with the training you get from being in the field you are also conditioned to do long ruck marches, and navigate through rough terrain in war zones. I was there to witness field training, watching it is one thing but actually practicing allows you to learn from more perspectives. When in a leadership position it tests your ability to react in certain situations and think in critical situations. Not participating as much in lab caused me to miss out on more opportunities to practice tactical exercises as well because I could not keep up
Physical training where is especially challenging because we had members of seal team four training with us to get there’s they had just graduated from there SEAL school and could run five minute miles all day and night even though I was in good shape is still kick my butt. The normal pace for running at any Army school is a 6 ½ minute mile.

Field Training is where it starts to introduce the recruits to living conditions on the field and then try to get you used to them since your going to be doing this a lot (Marine Corps). They teach the recruits how to set up a tent, to sanitation and camouflage. The recruits also get the chance to go through the Gas Chamber which is basically where recruits go into a gas chamber and they drop non-lethal gas into the chamber then they are instructed to take their gas mask off and stay in the chamber for 3-5 minutes after that they are able to leave the gas room.
The time spent at training camp prepared the boys for what was to come, by making them tough and brutal, while at the same time creating an army that does not stop to question its orders.
The United States Army consists of soldiers from many diverse cultures. Citizenship is not a requirement to join the Army, so people enlist from across the United States as well as from many countries around the world. The Army has its own unique culture that is a conglomeration of the many cultures that make up its population. A significant portion of the Coast Guard is not required to maintain any physical fitness standard. Requiring boatcrew members and law enforcement personnel to pass the physical fitness test; it puts a burden on the members for the extra time to maintain this standard. To change the current boat crew physical fitness test to a Coast Guard wide physical fitness test. It would benefit the Coast Guard and start to create a healthier lifestyle. The United States Army basic training; pushes your body to it’s maximal potential in sleep deprivation, physical performance, and mental stamina. I have always performed my best in a structured environment such as the military, but the training did push me past my potential and ironically, basic training also sparked my interest in public health.
