In the year of 1985, a movie trailer had just come out about an average kid in high school. The apparent star of the trailer, Michael J. Fox, is a high schooler who was starting to go through an awkward phase of his life. The trailer shows examples of his awkwardness by showing clips of him getting knocked over in a basketball game, a pretty girl talking to him, which, result in him embarrassingly dropping his books at his locker, and him going through awkward physical changes such as body hair and voice changes. The trailer then goes to show that Michael J. Fox is not some average joe, but in fact a werewolf. The trailer shows this by showing a clip of Michael J. Fox changing into a werewolf for the first time in his life. After Michael J. …show more content…
In the very beginning of the trailer, the clip starts off with Michael J. Fox getting knocked over in an intense game of basketball. This immediately getting the viewer laughing, and it sure did make me laugh. Quickly, after the basketball scene ends, they show a clip of Michael J. Fox opening his locker next to a pretty girl, and all his books fall out on to the floor, which result in Michael J. Fox being embarrassed. In addition, there is a scene where Michael J. Fox is in a locker with his shirt off. He then goes and plucks a hair off his chest. The trailer adds a sound effect of a pluck noise to help the viewer understand that it is supposed to be funny. Next, Michael J. Fox is in a scene where he is sitting next to the prettiest girl in school, and he bits the side of a beer. The beer sprays all over everyone, and everyone is laughing. Lastly, the trailer adds in a clip where Michael J. Fox is surfing on top of a van while his best friend is driving while playing “Surfin’ USA.” While he is on top of the van, he is doing tricks and flips, which adds to the humor of the movie. Throughout the entirety of the trailer, the creators of the movie trailer have most of the clips of the trailer have some sort of humor to it. Whether its Michael J. Fox doing flips and headstand on a moving van while playing “Surfin’ USA,” getting knocked over in heated game of basketball, or …show more content…
It adds in the fantasy aspect by using a clip in the trailer that makes the people watching the trailer want to figure out what happened to Michael J. Fox, and how he is going to handle living as a werewolf in high school. The trailer adds in it comedy aspect by having most of the trailer revolve around comedy. In a multitude of scenes, Michael J. Fox is either doing something embarrassing, or he is doing something really cool or weird, such as Michael J. Fox dancing on top of a van while playing “Surfin’ USA.” Throughout watching the trailer for the first-time, I was in love with the comedy and fantasy the trailer was showing me. That is because the trailer was tailored to apply to a younger audience. Most adults today would not have found the movie trailer funny or fantastical. Most of the adults today, would actually would have found comedy in making fun the trailer. This is because humor changes with time. In today’s day, people might find it funny how older movies had bad sound effects, and visual effects. In 1985, the makeup, the special effects, and the sound effects all would have been top of the line. This would ensure that the comedy would have been used to its best of its ability, and the makeup would ensure that people would believe in the fantasy and want find out more about the teen
In the movie trailer for Holes you can generally see the three rhetorical devices, which make the trailer effective. These are fairly noticeable in the movie trailer, some more so than others. While the message they are getting across is quite obvious, the speaker aspect of it is not quite as obvious. The speaker in the trailer uses an enthusiastic voice to show the audience, which is generally young kids or people who like mystery, that it is a movie with plenty of excitement. While they go through it the speaker gets more enthusiastic, and the music for the trailer also becomes more upbeat. The speaker also mentions that the movie is based off of an award-winning book, most likely because it might broaden the age group for the audience.
The movie Bernie is true story of a murder committed in Carthage, Texas in 1996. What set this crime apart from other murders was the reaction of the citizens. Bernie Tiede shot and killed Marjorie Nugent in November 1996. The people of Carthage were more worried about Bernie’s fate than his act of murdering Marjorie.
Imagine a game in which you can immerse yourself within the storyline, while gaining a variety of rewards and memorable moments. That is essentially the essence of the video game Destiny. Bungie, the developers of the game, created the trailer for Destiny to reel in buyers from various consoles by applying two forms of rhetoric persuasion—ethos and pathos—and dispersing the advertisements across multiple platforms. The recent rise in social networking provides a foundation to release this content and target certain demographics. Bungie takes advantage of this to promote their new product to audiences of console owners. Another way in which they can better relate to their audience is by noting that the publisher and developer are creators of highly recognized games. This is a form of ethos as they position themselves to be credible developers: A very crucial aspect when placing a new product on the shelves. Along with ethos, pathos is displayed throughout the ad. In this trailer, the music,
With the trailer the background music has a huge impact on the intensity in the trailer. For example in the beginning it shows the girl going to Mr. Grey’s office and the background music is calm instrumental music but as camera slowly shows his face the music changes to a slowed down version of Crazy in Love by Beyoncé. With that being the part to catch the audience’s attention on why they should continue to watch the trailer. Another thing it does it has the male character telling a back story about his
The purpose of a film trailer is to promote a film and to try and to
A blood-curdling horror movie has to tell a story while incorporating specific aspects that make it into the terrifying film that attracts an audience to the theaters. Using darkness, suspense, jump scares, and horrific background music, directors are able to create a movie that scares everyone. In the soon to be released film Leatherface, all of these aspects are addressed and play an important role in how scary it will be. The trailer for the upcoming thriller/horror movie, Leatherface is successful in capturing the audience’s attention by the way it uses color, camera angles, and sound effects to create a suspenseful feeling while raising intriguing questions that will persuade people to watch the film.
"Mrs. Robinson, you are trying to seduce me," says Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman). The Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols in 1967 is an influential satire/comedy film about a recent East Coast college graduated who finds himself alienated and aimless in the changing, social and sexual general public of the 1960s, and questioning the values of society. The theme of the film is of an innocent and confused youth who is exploited, mis-directed, seduced (literally and figuratively) and betrayed by a corrupt, self-indulgent, and discredited older generation (that finds stability in “plastics”) that I found to be quite clear and understanding, while also capturing the real spirit of the times and allows America's youth to perceive onscreen an image of themselves which they can both identify with and emulate. The Graduate is a significant film even today due to its use of abstract camera angles, telephoto lenses, excellent cinematography, and great acting. Few visual effects were used, however, matting and numerous point of view shots were used. These characteristics and the fabulous use of mis-en-scene, great writing and the era of the film all made The Graduate what it is today, magnificent.
Typical movies about marriages show clichéd characters that meet with other people on unexpected dates. The characters decide to marry each other, living forever in predictable endings similar to fairy tales. However, this movie breaks the marital movie stereotype, creating the reality on the benefits and downfalls of marriage. Tyler Perry, an African-American writer of Madea plays and Christian-based movies, created this movie for the purpose to discuss real-life experiences of marriage. Reviewers realize Tyler Perry’s purpose in the movie, but discuss how he portrays his message throughout the movie. Overall, the audience will understand that Why Did I Get Married Too is a positive movie the audience should watch.

“The Mission” is based on a true story that occurred around the borderlands of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil in the years 1750’s according to the film and history. The Treaty of Madrid of 1750 with the Spanish and Portuguese caused both havoc and death for the people of the Guarini and the members of the Jesuits. The Jesuits, members of the church, tried to bring Christianity and civilization to the natives while keeping at peace with Spain and Portugal. The Jesuits were the teachers for the natives; Teaching them not only the Christian religion but also civilization. Father Gabriel, a Jesuit, is first introduced in the film when he is showing his respects to a former Jesuit priest killed by the natives. He walks through the South American
The movie I decided to analyze for this course was American History X (1998), which stars Edward Norton. Though this movie isn’t widely known, it is one of the more interesting movies I have seen. It’s probably one of the best films that depict the Neo Nazi plague on American culture. The film takes place from the mid to late 1990’s during the Internet boom, and touches on subjects from affirmative action to Rodney King. One of the highlights of this movie that really relates to one of the key aspects of this course is the deterrence of capital punishment. Edward Norton’s portrayal as the grief stricken older brother who turns to racist ideologies and violence to cope with his fathers death, completely disregards the consequences of his actions as he brutally murders someone in front of his family for trying to steal his car. The unstable mentality that he developed after his father’s death really goes hand-to-hand specifically with Isaac Ehrlich’s study of capital punishment and deterrence. Although this movie is entirely fictional, a lot of the central themes (racism, crime punishment, gang pervasiveness, and one’s own vulnerability) are accurate representations of the very problems that essentially afflict us as a society.
The Wolf of Wall Street produced and directed by Martin Scorsese tells a story of Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker living a luxurious life on Wall Street. Due to greed and corruption, Jordan falls into a life of crime and abusive activities. Belfort made millions of dollars by selling customers “penny stocks” and manipulating the market through his company, Stratton Oakmont, before being convicted of any criminal activity (Solomon, 2013). Jordan reveals behaviours and impulses all humans have, however, on an extreme level. This movie illustrates “why ethics is another tool whose importance cannot be overstated” (Delaney, 2014). Without ethics and morality, individuals can never truly live an honest and happy life.
Love is a word that’s been both miss-used and over-used all at once. Romantic movies change our definition of and have a big impact on this definition greatly. Wall Street is a movie that exposes corruption and disguises all values, beliefs, and other ethical philosophy. Throughout the movie, Wall Street shows how ethics adapts to a person’s personality by power and wealth alongside honesty and truth. The power of greed is fascinating the code that everyone lives by is inevitable once money comes into play. There are five types of interpersonal power; reward power, coercive power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power. These types of power will be used to correspond relationships throughout the movie. In Wall Street we realize how Gordon Gekko uses Bud Fox for his benefit. In this paper I will show the types of powers that are used by Gordon Gekko and how they are used. One clear type of power that Gordon Gekko uses in his relationship with Bud Fox is the Referent power base. This power stands out because it is clear that Bud wants to become a top notch in the industry. Bud is striving to be successful when he exposes what he’s able to do at the meeting with Gordon Gekko he instantly become closer to his goals. There were scenes where Gordon had legitimate power. His knowledge and information was what made him rich. Bud Fox had to listen to what Gordon was telling him in order to become successful. First, the strong music genuinely reflects the mood of the movie. For instance, it makes us feel like we are in the “battle” of the basket ball match. The music also excel the triump once Lin, asian man, scores more points in his first five NBA starts than any other player in the modern era.
