According to www.miamigov.com, the City of Miami Building Department is responsible for overseeing the development of infrastructure within the City of Miami through the enforcement of state and county developed codes and regulations in order to ensure that new and existing structures are constructed and maintained properly. The Building Department issues building permits, performs inspections of current construction, and investigates complaints regarding the safety of existing structures. This organization does have a social media presence on Facebook.com that presents their contact information; however, the majority of information relating to the tasks involving this organization can be found on their web page at miamigov.com. The Office of the Director is responsible for managing departmental activities and developing department policies. The Office of the Director essentially acts as the coordinative entity of the Building Department. Employees of Inspection Services must be properly informed of department policy in order to correctly carry out inspection activities. Coordination between the Building Department and other City of Miami organizations, such as the Historic Preservation Department, is also essential. Without lateral coordination between organizations, these departments wouldn’t be able to perform their jobs as efficiently. For example, the History Preservation Department must be aware of currently building codes and regulations to ensure that the necessary renovations of historical sites are completed in order to maintain the safety of those structures. As the text states, “Having compatible objectives or working jointly may help to facilitate the coordinative process” (Milakovich, 2011, p.176). The City of Miami Building Department runs under a flat …show more content…
The number of building codes and regulations is also likely to increase as new, safer methods are discovered. Building technologies will eventually change to allow greater inhabitance of smaller areas. There is already a lack of available space to continue building new infrastructure in Miami; therefore, it is important that existing structures be properly maintained. The lack of space may also cause the cost of permits to go in order to decrease the motivation of potential builders who don’t have adequate funding to successfully complete their project. We believe that the plan reviewing and inspection services will expand due to the growing need for renovation permits. On another note, The City of Miami Building Department’s Facebook page possess reviews from recent customers that highlights the difficulty of dealing with the department; nearly all of the reviews are negative. In addition to the reviews on Facebook, a YouTube video was also created that shows the three sections of this organizations office, while also documenting the source of some of the issues that people have with this department’s customer service. The video shows the contractors’ section where customers receive their number in line, the administrative office, and the cashier (Crossstreetbroadcast, 2010). After showing each section, the creator of the video asks two of

Upon arrival, it came to our attention that some of the letters of the light up sign above the store were burned out. The building itself looked extremely out dated and was poorly lit outside. Also, there were many homeless people surrounding the shopping center outside of the store. All of these aspects made the store seem a bit sketchy and unwelcoming.
However, it is not as important to find the perfect structure, as it is to “put people in the right roles and relationships” within the structure chosen. (Bolman, 2013, p. 45) When this happens, the structure will allow people to do their job well. The goal of our mission is to provide safe and quality care to any mental health (MH) patient in our Emergency Department (ED). I have identified the following structural elements in my organization that are either driving forces or restraining forces toward this goal. The first element is “vertical coordination.”
**** Agencies Responsible – Which agencies/ organizations/ individuals are primarily responsible for executing the action plans for each goal?
In conclusion, the state of Florida is made up into a wide range of state and local government agencies. The state agencies include the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The local agencies include the counties, municipalities, and special purpose districts. The counties and municipalities are general purpose agencies that include county and city government. The special purpose agencies are districts created for functions such as transportation, schools, water, etc.
The IZ programs are likely to take several years to be effective and support low to moderate-income residents. Developers and administrators need some time to be well informed to the new program. The Furman Center research team finds that the programs in San Francisco region exempt smaller projects or provide density bonuses tend to produce more units, indicating that more flexible programs may result in greater production. In the Washington D.C area, IZ programs have produced a total of 15,252 affordable units (as of 2003). In San Francisco area, IZ programs have produced 9,154 affordable units (as of 2004), and the programs with density bonuses and exemptions for smaller projects...

Facilities Operations and Maintenance A site-based administrator has a variety of responsibilities concerning the financial aspects of Facilities Operations and Maintenance. On a day-to-day basis, a principal might find him or herself working closely with the bookkeeper to oversee the budget, addressing the needs of custodians, attending to school security and safety, as well as monitoring energy use. Some facets of Facilities Operations and Maintenance, such as energy bills, are controlled directly by the school district while others, such as budgeting for custodial supplies, are in the hands of the principal. In order for a school to run efficiently, administrators must become effective managers of their designated facilities.
Even though his firm was only required to do civil engineering work, Giffels concluded that there was an unacceptable risk to the firefighters who would use the facility with the unresolved issues, so he began contacting other firms with experience handling similar contract projects, part of exercising due care to ensure they could enhance safety. The training facility met the minimum requirements of the law, but Giffels felt that it would be shirking the responsibility his firm has to the public by not callin...
When starting construction on a new building, there are plenty of things that can and will go wrong. You will start to lay out the plumbing and find that it clashes with a wall or beam that cannot be moved. To finish your project, you must take more time and more money to adjust to the new layout. Another scenario is the owners won’t let you start construction because they can’t see the end result or where the specific design implements that had asked for are located. For the past few decades the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry has been looking for a solution to this problem. Projects would be set back due to design oversights. Without anything to predict these problems before they happen, these little setbacks were a common occurrence. Once building information modeling (BIM) was born, it was like their prayers had been answered. The future was here.
In building construction and in fire prevention there are organizations that have created a useful system on how to determine what type of building falls under which category. The ICC (International Code Council) and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) create these building codes for the safety of firefighters. The two most commonly known standards for building classifications are the NFPA 5000 and also the International Building Code (IBC). The two are very similar, however, they different on sub-categorizing. The International Building Code uses Roman numerals behind the type of construction. In addition to subcategories with letters for each five classes and the amount of fire resistance provided for each building. NFPA uses Roman numerals behind the type of construction. Unlike the IBC, NFPA uses a 3-digit number system behind that to sub categorize the fire hourly rating for the load-bearing walls, for the beams and columns, and for the floor construction. The IBC and NFPA breaks down construction in to five classes, Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV, and Type V.
...d realization of the goals; planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling processes are vital and essential (12manage).
-This coordination is an important part of the policy-making process because it ensures that policy initiatives have the support of all the relevant sections of government. Government departments and agencies sometimes have divergent organizational structures that make it difficult for them to coordinate their operations. This disparity can hinder multi-agency cooperation in the implementation of policies (Everett 2003). -This step involves arriving at the appropriate decision regarding the policy initiative that will be used to solve the problem .

According to the National Commission of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, after the Fair Housing Act many organizations have been established that are working toward building alliances with housing industry groups and local governments to produce training and to build public support for fair housing. At the state level, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) is responsible for the investigating and tracking civil-rights related concerns such as housing discrimination. In addition, this department provides outreach and education programs, community relations, and contract compliance (MDCR, 2015). The department ensures the prevention of discrimination and promotes voluntary compliance with Civil Rights laws for those in the state of Michigan.
