Our group visited Pet Supplies Plus on the evening of November 13th, 2017. Despite our busy schedules, we finally found an opportunity to meet and conduct our analysis. While in the store, we took notes of things that stood out to us; both good and bad. We split the information collected into four groups: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In the following report, we’ll discuss each SWOT section for Pet Supplies Plus in detail.
STRENGTHS

Upon arrival, it came to our attention that some of the letters of the light up sign above the store were burned out. The building itself looked extremely out dated and was poorly lit outside. Also, there were many homeless people surrounding the shopping center outside of the store. All of these aspects made the store seem a bit sketchy and unwelcoming.
After entering Pet Supplies Plus we thought the music was too loud, which could come off as distracting or annoying. After analyzing the small pets for sale section, we noticed a sign on the glass that read “However, we cannot guarantee the exact sex or age of the pet you choose”. As a customer purchasing a pet, we would not feel comfortable not knowing the gender or age of our pet.
Lastly, another weakness we came across is that Pet Supplies Plus had a limited variety of pets for sale. We only saw snakes, fish, and a few rodents. Also, many of the glass cages were empty. They did not sell cats or dogs, or have an adoption center within the store, which we think could be detrimental to their sales or foot traffic. Although we only found a few, we feel that these specific weakness are extremely important and if worked on, Pet Supplies Plus could become a more successful and popular

In this modern era, people are choosing to shop online more and more, which is hurting brick-and-mortar stores. Pet Supplies Plus does have an online presence where you can view their products, but you can only purchase them in-store. Chewy.com is an online pet store that carries products for a wide range of animals including, but not limited to, dogs, cats, birds, and horses. They have over 1000 brands to choose from, and even a gift box for pets called a Goody Box. You get five things for 19.95, and free shipping. They also have 24/7 help for customers who want the assistance of a professional. A SWOT Analysis can be powerful to any company. The SWOT analysis for PetSmart allows them to expose opportunities that otherwise could be missed ("SWOT Analysis," n.d.). An additional benefit of a PetSmart SWOT analysis is gives the company an understanding of their weaknesses, which can result in a competitive edge for its competitor. Understanding strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threat as a company will give PetSmart an advantage over a company who chooses to ignore this type of analysis. I woke up one morning in the need of some groceries because I ran out of eggs to make breakfast. I also realized that I needed ink cartridges, glue for a project, and a video game that I wanted; materials that normal grocery stores wouldn’t sell. Wal-Mart is the typical superstore where you can get almost anything. So I figured what better place to get all of these items at a good price than to go to Wal-Mart.

Management experience will also play a large role in the success of the forecast. The current team is quite new and will gain some needed experience over the next year in the hopes of staying on track for success.
