Supervisor need communication skills, fairness, negotiation skills and resolution skills to mediate conflicts. Also supervisor should be an active listener, need to understand the problem, reason for conflict correctly. Then the mediator should be unbiased. Mediating supervisor should not be a part of the issue or problem. It will help to develop the trust between two parties or individual.
2. When might a supervisor benefit from using trained mediators, such as NCRC mediators, rather than mediating a conflict him- or herself? Why would the experts be important in these situations?

He or she can see the both person view of the problem. For example if the conflict between management and the employee, the mediator can view an analyze form the management point of view as well as employee point of view.
