The essay “Ten Ways to Think about Writing: Metaphoric Musings for College Writing Students” by E. Shelley Reid discusses a key point in writing that the writer should be passionate or have a connection to their writing. For instance, Reid states that there are three main principals that writers should follow when writing. In her work, E. Shelley Reid wrote, “Write about what you know about,
I think that the good novelist tries to provide his reader with vivid depictions of certain crucial and abiding patterns of human existence. This he attempts to do by reducing the chaos of human experience to artistic form. And when successful he provides the reader with a fresh vision of reality. For then through the symbolic action of his characters and plot he enables the reader to share forms of experience not immediately his own. And thus the reader is able to recognize the meaning and value of the presented experience as a whole. (Kostelanetz 10)
Writing is a type of art because it requires you to think and be creative in the way you want it to be. I have a diary that I wrote almost everyday. They help me think about my day and sometimes turn my bad day into a good day. I write whatever comes into my head at that moment, and reflect on my day. Writing make me think deeper to what happen and help me turn my negative thought to positive. Writing is a very powerful tool. When I write, I have the power to change the story. I am the author of my own story so I can be as creative as I want.
Several people have trouble writing college level essays and believe that they are unable to improve their writing skills. In “the Inspired Writer vs. The Real Writer,” Sarah Allen argues how no one is born naturally good at writing. Sarah Allen also states how even professional writers have trouble with the task of writing. Others, such as Lennie Irvin, agree. In Irvin’s article “What is ‘Academic’ Writing?” states how there are misconceptions about writing. Furthermore, Mike Bunn’s article “How to Read Like a Writer” shows ways on how one can improve their writing skills. Allen, Bunn, and Irvin are correct to say how no one is born naturally good writers. Now that we know this, we should find ways to help improve our writing skills, and
Although the greater picture is that reading is fundamental, the two authors have a few different messages that they seek to communicate to their audiences. “The Joy of Reading and Writing” depicts how reading serves as a mechanism to escape the preconceived notions that constrain several groups of people from establishing themselves and achieving success in their lifetimes. “Reading to Write,” on the other hand, offers a valuable advice to aspiring writers. The author suggests that one has to read, read, and read before he or she can become a writer. Moreover, he holds an interesting opinion concerning mediocre writing. He says, “Every book you pick has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones” (p.221). Although these two essays differ in their contents and messages, the authors use the same rhetorical mode to write their essays. Both are process analyses, meaning that they develop their main argument and provide justification for it step by step. By employing this technique, the two authors create essays that are thoughtful, well supported, and easy to understand. In addition, Alexie and King both add a little personal touch to their writings as they include personal anecdotes. This has the effect of providing support for their arguments. Although the two essays have fairly different messages, the authors make use of anecdotes and structure their writing in a somewhat similar
The very first chapter we read of Mindful Writing changed my perspective to see that anyone and everyone can be a writer. Brian Jackson, the author of Mindful Writing, wrote, “In this book I want to convince you that anyone writing anything for any reason is a writer…Writing is not something we do just in school. It is a vital means of influence in all facets of life.” It was through that very first reading that I began to think about writing as more than just a dreaded part of school, and I began to think of myself as more than just a student forced to write. Our very first assignment, My Writing Story, helped me to reflect on my identity as a writer. I realized that I was a writer every time I wrote in my journal or captioned an Instagram post. Throughout the semester, as I came to love writing more with each paper I wrote, I was able to create my identity as a writer. I learned that I loved research and analyzing others’ thoughts and ideas, but that writing simply on my own opinions, wasn’t my favorite past time. Through the countless readings this semester, I saw which writing styles I loved and which didn’t speak to me. Each day of class, I chipped away at creating my identity as a writer, and I’m grateful for the lessons that helped me shape and realize that
People write for many reasons. They write to educate, , and to entertain to express
There are many factor that will influence the composing process and help the writer to
Bernard Malamud once said, “The purpose of the writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.” This quote means that the purpose of the author is to bring awareness to the issues in society. This quote is shown to be true in Animal Farm by George Orwell and Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. In these two pieces of literature, the authors expose the issues in society that can lead to destruction and the character’s demise.
Writing can be a very difficult process for those who do not know how to go about constructing
Where does the beginning come from in every story and what influences the authors to include details and write the way they do? How do they know what to write about when for some the words just do not come? Life experiences, history, family history and events around them in the time are four of some of the biggest reasons authors put their thoughts and feelings on paper.
Everybody in this world has a talent. He or she can use his talent to express about himself or herself. Also, the writers can explain some themes from their societies in their articles, novels, and books. The artistic works can treat some problems and face the society with it. For an example, Khaled Hosseini on his novel The Kite Runner, explains some themes from the society like, how the children affected by their parents, how the society and the religious matter effect on the people, and the value of having someone by your side supports you.
After analyzing the correlations between the 8 types of intelligence and the writing performance, it was found that two of them, i.e. logical mathematical [r= 0154, n=40, p=0.344] and natural intelligence [r=0.172, n=39, p=0.296], had positive but not strong relationship. As indicated in table 2, some intelligences such as spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal had a negative but not statistically significant correlation with writing performance.
Writing is all about progressing, and that's how I think about my writing. No one was born to be a writer but one can always improve to become a better writer. As an international student, although I started learning English at a very young age, I still found writing in English was very hard. Especially when I started learning from English professors, I realized that most of the words and phrases I learned back in China were wrong. However, during several years of English writing training, with the help of technology and a philosophy professor whom I learned from, I believe I have became a better writer. Technology transfers me to a more efficient writer by changing me from “pen-writer” to a “computer writer”, while professor Greenberg shaped me into a more precise writer.
People love to read books, and also love the author explain the content to the readers, as an independent writer, the large amount of the knowledge and the creative skill is the basis to write a good essay or article, what the important here is the concept and idea that the writer can be provided, if there no acknowledgement support, and there is no way the writer can be produce a nice essay. An independent writer needs to have ability to show his or her opinion in the unique way, many people very like to write a thing but the writing strategy is quite difficult to direct, and how to write a story that can make reader to enjoy the detail, and how to provide an evidence to help the reader to believe the article is a reliable one.
