Albert Einstein once said, “if a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?” Einstein was suggesting something against our social convention, as we all know that the majority of our peers and colleagues judge us partly based on how organized our desks are. Coincidentally, David Freeman also argues that messy people are more productive than neat people. In daily life, those with an extremely messy desk are considered to be careless and undisciplined. In order to increase study or work efficiency and productivity, our parents, teachers and supervisors all tell us to clean up our desks so that we can be more concentrated at work and thus more efficient. Almost all parents train their young children to …show more content…
A messy desk does not necessarily imply the absence of order. To be more specific, it can be a highly effective prioritizing mechanism. On a messy desk, the most important and urgent work will generally be on top of the piles or close by, while the least useful stuff will be near the bottom. This filing system helps us easily find the documents we need. On the contrary, a person with an organized desk may need to take some time to remind himself of the location of a specific file and look for the right filing cabinet or folder before he can find that file. By flexibly reducing the time we spent on looking for specific things, the seemingly disordered desk can provide people with more efficiency. Take myself as an example. I have a messy desk as well as a messy bookshelf. My bookshelf is filled with papers and books from different courses. Textbooks and files from the past quarters are at the bottom of the bookshelf, and sometimes they are even laid on the floor. Meanwhile, several books stay on my desk. I should put them back on the bookshelf but I wouldn’t because I consult them all the time for writing, class preparation, and sometimes just for fun when I need to relax. I am currently working on my psychology project, which requires references from five different books. According to my course schedule, I will start another research paper when I am done with the current project. I am busy with my school projects with no time to clean my desk and bookshelf. Most importantly, although my bookshelf looks messy, there is a clear organizational system where books on the same topic stay together, and the books that I frequently read will stay on the upper shelves while those that I do not read that much will go to the bottom. I have a sense of where things are and where they should be. My desk and bookshelf perfectly function and support me to perform with greater productivity in three distinctive ways. First of all, I can
Suzanne Britt, a teacher at Meredith College and a publisher in essays and textbooks, in her essay “Neat People vs. Sloppy People,” (1983) asserts that people who live cluttered lives are morally better than those who live organized lives. She supports this assertion by using humor and exaggeration to describe both types of people, making generalizations about both sloppy and neat people, repeating “sloppy people” and “neat people” at beginning, and throughout, each paragraph, and illustrating situations in how neat and sloppy people would act differently, along with using her opinion to strengthen her argument. Britt’s purpose is to persuade readers that sloppy, unorganized people are more morally upstanding than neat people in order to encourage
School is a perfect example of structure. Almost every school consist of the same thing which is desks and a board to demonstrate the lesson. All the desk are facing one way so that the children have a more likely chance to pay attention to the instructor and Proper room arrangement provides predictability in students, which has a calming effect I presume. When students are better able to understand their environment and anticipate what is coming next, they tend to be less apprehensive. Their mental states are more conducive to learning new material and also a decrease in misconduct
The essay’s thesis is trying to imply that neat people are lazier and meaner and don’t pay any attention to the little things in life. The only part of the essay where the author compares sloppy people and neat people is in paragraph eight. The author says “ The only thing messy in a neat person’s house is the trash can”. This line helps the author build up on her thesis even though it’s implying the exact opposite of what her thesis was. She mentioned earlier that sloppy people care about detail and pay attention to their surroundings while neat people only keep the things that are worth keeping. She then states that sloppy people care enough to sit down for days and go through every single thing on their desk, finding a spot for each and maybe even throw out the things that they don’t need but neat people simply throw everything out. One can say that when reading the sentence that refers to the trashcan being the only messy thing in a neat persons house is quite sarcastic. The author tries to compare these two types of people together and maybe for a second even disagree with her thesis while in reality one can say that she’s just trying to use irony and sarcasm to prove how ridiculous a neat persons actions could be and how they think that they’re cleaning everything up while maybe in reality they’re just making it
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
I am not a super messy person, but I don't necessarily keep my room clean all the time, either. Many a time I have opted to put away my clothes, clean out my binder and my backpack, make my lunch for the next day, and/or take a shower before I get to my homework. Doing all these activities takes a while, and I usually end up doing all of them on nights when I have a lot of homework, or if I have a test the next day. Any type of cleaning or household chore would work, though, such as scrubbing the shower, vacuuming, or dusting.
Robert Probst, a designer who worked as the Director of research for office of furniture manufacturer, Herman Miller Inc., developed the “Action Office”, it was a proposition for an altogether new kind of space, a design which had plenty of work surfaces and display shelves; partitions were a part of it, intended to provide privacy and places to pin up works in process. This is how the office cubicle came into being. Today, it is estimated that more than 40 million North Americans spend their working lives in cubicles, with many of them passing more waking hours in the closed-office environment than in any other—even their own living rooms.
From doing this task, I learned that it’s important to stay organized and work efficiently because when I keep my workspace neat and I work productively, I manage my time better, which allows me to get my work done faster and more effectively.
Paperclips are an everyday use in today's world. They hold our papers together, when we don’t want to use a stapler that will poke the unwanted holes into our paper. They also keep our papers organized and neat. There are many types of paper clips that were created, but only a few really were the ones. Over the many years, since ancient Eurasia, the clip has made its way through many patents, inventors, machines, and much more. There are many different colors, sizes, forms of paper clips.
These students seem to have either the neatest or the messiest desks or lockers in the school. The one with the messiest desk will need your help in frequent cleanups of the desk or locker so that he can find things. Simply remember that he is probably not making a conscious choice to be messy. He is most likely incapable of this organizational task without specific training. Attempt to train him in organizational skills using small, specific steps.

During the first day of school, a variety of different students enter the classroom. These students are excited and nervous, they have their parents by their sides who are observing the classroom walls and arrangement. From the minute the students enter the classroom, students are observing the classroom environment and notice the everything. Everything in the classroom needs to have a purpose, but provide a pleasant environment. When preparing and organizing the classrooms, teachers need to consider the different variables that impact the classroom. Classrooms can be disorganized if the walls are cluttered and have no meaning The organizations of the desks, the wall decorations, and the seating arrangements significantly impact the physical environments. Getting lost in a mall was something I was keen on doing. On that day I was on a field trip for my _ grade class. We went to McWane Science Center, it was one of the best places I ever been. I remember touching little sting rays and bamboo sharks. It reminded me of my most favorite place I the world, Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
