I have chosen to become a medical assistant as a platform to enter into the medical field. In my opinion I can fulfill the job description, I know there is a high demand for the position, and there is always room to grow on the pay scale. As a medical assistant you may work in a clinical or administrative environment. Clinical medical assistant’s duties may include taking vital signs of patients, conducting in-office screening tests, collecting and preparing specimens to send to diagnostic laboratories, recording medical histories, and administering medications. The work environment may be in a hospital or a physician office along a physician. Administrative medical assistant’s duties may include updating patient records, greeting patients, setting appointments, calling in prescriptions or refills as directed by the doctor, answering phones, and arranging for diagnostic testing or other procedures. Their work environment is usually in an office setting focusing on making sure the medical practice is running smooth. At the end of the day it is just more expensive to hire a, nurse and a secretary when you can somewhat have the best of both worlds with a medical assistant. With the demand for more health services medical assistants can assist doctors in a clinical and administrative manner to allow more patients to be seen. Our generation is going through a baby boom which is causing an increased population that has demands in the medical field. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics states Medical Assistant as one of the fastest growing professions. It is expected to experience a 35% growth by the year 2016. While life is starting at birth and adding to our population numbers, individuals are expected to live longer. Medical... ... middle of paper ... ...raining in the environment as well as being able to climb the pay scale to live comfortable. My area of interest for being a medical assistant is to work for a psychiatric clinic or hospital just to get started. Eventually I will go back to school to obtain a bachelor’s degree for allied health. I can then work my way to become a nurse manager. I have compassion and commitment to be in the medical field. My determination and ambition will always allow me to go above and beyond to be the best medical assistant. Works Cited "The Demand for Medical Assistants." - HealthCareers.net. N.p., n.d. From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
