The moment I went to the USD Healthcare Career Camp was one of the best moments in my life so far. I first heard about the camp when my Principles of Biomedical Science teacher told my class to check it out. I received a brochure that went over all that would happen in the 5 days I was there. It included going to the anatomy lab, looking at cadavers, and getting hands on experience in a medical field of our choice. This all sounded cool to me so I got the application for the camp. The application required that I write a 350 word essay dealing with four questions that they provided. The first question simply asked why I would like to attend the camp. The second asked why I would like to pursue a career in the healthcare field. The third and fourth questions asked about a person that has had a significant influence on me and had me write about an issue I had whether it be personal, local, or global. My response for the fourth question was a question that is very prominent and a very scary thought to think about. The issue that I wrote about was over the accidental development of a completely drug resistant superbug. Cleaning, scrubbing and washing, a super bug is slowly formed. I …show more content…

One highlight of the trip was visiting a simulation van that contained a very advanced manikin. This manikin could do a lot of the things a human can like talk, blink, breathe, and even sweat. The man that was running the van explained that the manikins actions and responses were all controlled by him and even told us about some of his prior experiences. He also explained that the simulation could be the difference between life and death in real life. One group of nurses that did the simulation saw a problem in a real patient, fixed it, and saved a man's life while another group that didn’t go through the simulation didn’t spot it and nearly cost a patient their
