Surgical Technicians are needed tremendously for a surgical procedure to run smoothly. For surgeries, hospitals and offices are staffed with a trained medical team ready to take action when they are needed too. The most important position beside the surgeon is, a Surgical Technician. ‘A Surgical Technician can be related to how they interact with a patient, how they prepare the tools and operating room for surgery, along with their ability to assist and react to the needs of a surgeon.” If you could think about how many stars there is up in the sky, that is how many possible surgeries there is. I have chosen to do the topic “Orthopedic” Surgical Technician. The medical terminology “Ortho” means “bones”. The term “orthopedics” means …show more content…
Paying attention to detail is very important in this occupation. Your job is to reaction of the surgeon and the action around you as well. Also, a strong stomach is highly suggested because you have no idea what could be scheduled for that day, and also you are assisting by cutting someone open. Some of the thing you will see will be disturbing or even amazing. Even though working in a stressful but yet, exciting places, to have a shaky hand isn’t so great either. “You need to remain calm and focus on your duties no matter how simple or complex a procedure may be.” (Rasmussen.edu). Surgical Technicians are required to set up equipment, tools, and to prepare the room for the surgery. They work under the arms of a surgeon by passing the tools in a unique way. They can also have many names such as “OR Techs” or “OP Techs”. To become a Surgical Tech, you must have an associate degree and to complete the certification of a surgical …show more content…
The tools that are used are unique and have to be used with a steady hand. You will have different types of tools such as the cutters, drill, lever, mallet, rasp, saw, splint, and more. The bone cutter is used to cut the bones or remove them from the body. The proper name for the drill is called an “Orthopedic Bone Drill”. They are air powered tools that are used for pinning, drilling or wiring. The mallets are common is plastic surgeries but in orthopedic surgeries they are used for bone removal. Rasp are used to re-sculpt the bone. They allow the surgeon to make small details to the bone if they are needed. Now, there is many types of saws that are used during surgeries. Most of them all do the same thing, but as I was comparing them (medilexicon.com) and reading their descriptions about the saw and not all of them are used in orthopedic surgeries. They can also be used in different types of muscular surgeries, cardiac surgeries, and many more. A splint is something that the Doctors will put you in after surgery to keep your limbs from moving. Back in the older days, people used unsanitary handmade splints which consisted of “old bandages that were soaked in horse’s blood to stiffen them” (Shady Grove

Most qualified surgeons started off as litter bearer and would carry men off the battlefield. If any of them showed interest in the medical field, they could become a Steward. A Steward's job was to take care of patients with minor wounds such as, scratches, and bumps. The other duties of a Steward were to pull teeth and take care of medicines for the surgeons. The Steward would also guard the medicinal stores, because often soldiers would try to break into the medicinal stores where the morphine, opium, and whisky were stored. If a Steward completed these duties, then he might be allowed to assist a surgeon in an operation, which could lead to becoming an assistant surgeon. He could then later on become an experienced and qualified surgeon.
My job contains a great deal of direct patient contact, to say the least. I assist the surgeon in whichever surgery the patient needs. I participate in helping cure, stabilize, comfort, and add to the patients' treatment. In order to be a good surgical tech, you must always be one step ahead of the surgeon, which inquires extensive knowledge of human anatomy and the symptoms that accompany an illness. Identifying anatomical landmarks and the normality of organs are also important qualities to have when assisting in surgery.

According to Career Cruising, “anesthesiologists are doctors who administer drugs or gases that prevent patients from feeling any pain or sensation during surgery.” They monitor the patient before, during, and after the operation. Career Cruising also noted that before surgery, anesthesiologists consult with patients and make decisions

“The purpose of a doctor or any human in general should not be to simply delay the death of a patient, but to increase the person’s quality of life.” Orthopedic surgeons treat a number of conditions that affect the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and nerves. The training to become an orthopedic surgeon requires multiple years of hard work and studying, but in the end, the success is worth all the stress and struggle experienced on the way. Most doctors must dedicate every fiber of their being, countless hours of work, and years of stress in their chosen profession. Medicine is only for those who can’t imagine doing anything else.
Everyday, people go through surgery and require a specialist that will monitor their surgery as well as give them what they need to be able to persevere the pain, which is exactly what anesthesiologists do. In order for the patients to be able to get into surgery and deal with the agonizing aches after the abscission, anesthesiologists have to give the sufferer the proper treatment before and after the surgery. Overall, anesthesiologists must be highly educated in both medicine and communication, they need to be able to give the patient the right amount of medicine as well as speak with the family of patients and other doctors to inform them all with what will be done during the surgery, and they need to be able to properly assist the surgeons during operations.
The interns have to deal with surgeons above them telling them what to do and teaching them how to become better surgeons. They learn the right and wrong way to do medical procedures while dealing with no sleep and other interns stealing surgeries from them. They have some challenges while going through internship. They begin to fall in love with the wrong people. Which leads to interns cutting Lvad wires so there boyfriend can get a heart transplant and interns having sex with someone that turns out to be their boss. Then they make their way up the chain of command and become junior resident. The first process of wading out the ones who can’t handle surgery is the intern test. Once they become residence they have their own set of interns to teach while dealing with the residence above them also known as attending. In this stage they become more involved with being on their own. They begin assisting with procedures, and doing them with supervision. This is when all of the real problems begin. They are put in life of death situations where they have to preform surgeries in the highest tensed atmosphere. They have car accidents, bombs in body cavities, and most hectic a hospital shooting. This is where they
