Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I would like to say that I am honored with the presence of you all, and thank you everyone for joining us. I am Jacqueline Sienna, a temporary researcher at Cornell University and I am going to focus on how the use drugs alter the industry of meat production, and how increase meat production alter the use of drugs.
Meat plays an important role in one’s diet; the amount of meat we consume has a significant impact on our health, considering that meat is a major source of many nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, iron and zinc. It has been observed a drastic rise of industrial meat production over the last decade. According to “Worldwide, per capita meat consumption increased from 41.3 kilograms in 2009

This causes dirt and crowded conditions on factory farms, which can proliferate sickness and disease among the animals. Subsequently, this increment of diseases evokes the use of drugs in mass quantities to reduce the effects of the diseases.
However, when those animals are fed with antibiotics, they are no longer organic but what we call processed. Therefore, it can evoke broader health problems, including obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Based on the research I participated, it has found that the organic farms and farmers are less colonized than those of conventional farms and farmers, because organic raised meat does not have any antibiotics. (source) Furthermore, it has also found that organic farmers are less colonized with MRSA compared to conventional farmers.
Also farmers who interact with animals in those crowded and disease tasiyan farms, kapmak the bacteria that carries the resistant. Antibiotic resistant bacteria can move through farmers; farmers contaminate the resistant microorganisms to their families. Then their families interact with different people and those people are also infected by the resistant genes. Therefore, farmers become a “community conduit” (SG5 Lecture Notes, Date), an indirect collaborator to the antibiotic resistant bacteria to
Factory farming is a necessary component of our modern food production and supply system. In 2005, the U.S. produced 45.7 billion pounds of red meat. It efficiently produces and distributes huge quantities of food to feed the growing population of America. But the overfeeding of antibiotics in the U.S. meat industry has gotten to the extreme and it calls for a drastic change in order to prevent a potential public health crises.
Organic farming is the right way forward in this field of preventing antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In an organic system, animals live in widespread areas and are given appropriate diets, resulting in a healthy environment where the risk of disease is less than a regular farming system. Growth-promoting drugs are also banned, and vaccinations are only used if completely necessary.
Being vegetarian opens up so many doors for people. For those who do not know what a vegetarian is or are confused on what they do or eat let me inform you that being a vegetarian simply means that you go off of plant-based diets. Although there are several kinds of vegetarian diets, it is all based on what type of food you are consuming. For example, a strict vegetarians or vegans avoid all foods of animal origin, including meat, poultry, fish, diary products, and eggs. Many people become a vegetarian for different reason according to the Calorie King he states, “being vegetarian means different things to different people, and people follow a vegetarian diet for different reason including health, religion, and ethical beliefs.”(Deusen p.1)
With the ever-growing population of animal lovers on earth, a more viable, humane solution for food consumption needs to be made, but why make a solution when there has already been one? Meat consumption has been proven time and time again to be unnecessary, but that doesn’t stop the average person from eating a double cheese burger with bacon. Unfortunately, many people are apathetic to what happens to animals in farm factories and continue to support them by buying their products, however, consumers should consider switching to a vegetarian diet because it’s more humane to animals, less farm factories being built can save the planet from deforestation, and with a proper balanced vegetarian diet anyone can maintain a healthy life without the
Imagine living a life without eating anything with an animal product in it. No meat, fish, milk, eggs, honey, not even gelatin. Vegans are people who adapt a lifestyle where they live without any animal based goods; some do this for the health benefits that come with eliminating meats and dairy. Many become vegan as a way to protest and eliminate animal cruelty which is extremely apparent in the meat industry. A vegan diet is based largely on fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and soy. Many people would say this is unhealthy, that a person cannot live like this. Much of this skepticism comes from being misinformed, and under informed about veganism. It is safe to live a vegan lifestyle. On a vegan diet a person can get all the vitamins
The United States has become the most overweight country in the world over the last fifty years. In fact, sixty- nine percent of adults over twenty are either obese or overweight. (CDC) The fast food industry and the production of highly processed food have fueled this epidemic. There are millions of dollars made in the production of processed foods that keep for years because of harmful additives that are put on the food. Companies have exploited Americans addiction to fast, easy, and cheap by providing these less nutritious foods for nearly half the price of fresh produce. What can be done to promote better health for the American population? I think that we must promote healthy eating habits and provide information on the dangers
The topics discussed by Agustina Gonzalez in this discussion was unique and creative. What a great imagination. Anyone of these chosen topics could result in a very interesting and persuasive paper.
For years organic farmers and conventional farmers have feuded over which is superior. Organic farmers argue that their product is more eco-friendly because they do not use the synthetic chemicals and fertilizers conventional farmer’s use. Conventional farmers argue that their product is healthier and yields more. People tend to have stereotypes regarding the two types of farmers. Organic farmers are usually thought of as liberal, hippy, tree-huggers while conventional farmers are usually thought of as right-wing, industrialists. Obviously, some do adhere to this stereotype, but a majority of these farmers are normal, hardworking people. Although these farmers, both believe in their methods, one is no better than the other. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but there is no true superior method of crop farming.
seizures, headaches, mood disturbances and reduce mental performance” (Downs). Doesn’t that just make you want to reevaluate what you but for you and your loved ones?
According to the newspaper article the WHO announcement states that eating processed meats and is carcinogenic for humans. The meats include hot dogs, sausages and bacon, and red meat. It also linked a connection between the meats and the cancer.
Jessica Steagall Mrs. Wallace English 3 Honors 16 March 2017 Veganism Vegetarianism is a trend that many people know of and many people personally know someone who follows a vegetarian diet. However, the vegan community is a smaller group of people who, instead of only not eating meat, they do not consume any animal products or use anything with animal products in it. There are many reasons people go vegan. The number of people following vegan and vegetarian diets around the world has been growing, people are choosing to eat this way because of animal welfare issues, the impact of meat and dairy on the environment, and the health benefits that come along with the diet.
Strict veganism prohibits the use of all animal products, not just food, and is a lifestyle choice rather than a diet.” -Cambridge Dictionary Online.

Every day in the U.S. students come home from school hungry. It could be because they didn't like the lunch that day or that there wasn't enough to eat. At lunch, I noticed, that some kids just sit there and don't touch their food. Sometimes that kid is me. If students are that hungry shouldn't they be able to go home and grab something that they will actually eat and not just through away and waste the food provided?
Every person has the ability to make their own choice of whether to eat meat or not. However, eating meat is directly tied to negative health effects, pollution leading to a depletion of ozone, and the depletion of hundreds of thousands of acres of land “wasted” on animal production when they could be used to solve the hunger crisis or lower emission levels. What humans eat is no longer a matter of choice; it has become a matter of life and death. Literally, the future of the whole planet rests on the decision of whether or not to eat meat. If humans chose to eat less meat the world that wouldn’t have to suffer the consequences (outlined above.) Vegetarianism is one possibility, as is Veganism; however the world would be
