The United States has become the most overweight country in the world over the last fifty years. In fact, sixty- nine percent of adults over twenty are either obese or overweight. (CDC) The fast food industry and the production of highly processed food have fueled this epidemic. There are millions of dollars made in the production of processed foods that keep for years because of harmful additives that are put on the food. Companies have exploited Americans addiction to fast, easy, and cheap by providing these less nutritious foods for nearly half the price of fresh produce. What can be done to promote better health for the American population? I think that we must promote healthy eating habits and provide information on the dangers
Promoting a healthy society would benefit many areas of our everyday life and encourage people to be more productive in everything that they do. Healthy eating habits would generate better performance at your workplace, more energy in the gym, and increase brain function. Factory farms have became notorious for pumping their animals with steroids and antibiotics that have been proven to lack vital nutrients that are prevalent in animals raised on smaller farms. These large scale farms are often overly crowded, malnourished, and abused by their caretakers. There have been undercover documentaries that expose the conditions on these farms but not enough has been done to prevent them totally. Not only are these animals lacking sufficient nutrients, they may also contain harmful bacteria from the unsanitary conditions in which they live. The government could take considerable measures in making sure the people on Food Stamps are living a more balanced life by only allowing nutritious foods to be bought with them. This could, in return, stimulate these people with enough energy to become a productive citizen. The government shouldn 't even present these unhealthy alternatives as a choice to someone who can 't afford them for
