Every day in the U.S. students come home from school hungry. It could be because they didn't like the lunch that day or that there wasn't enough to eat. At lunch, I noticed, that some kids just sit there and don't touch their food. Sometimes that kid is me. If students are that hungry shouldn't they be able to go home and grab something that they will actually eat and not just through away and waste the food provided? Should we be able to run to a friends house, or even a nearby gas station to get something that fills us or that we enjoy?
We should be able to go off campus for lunch. 86% say yes 14% say no (debate) . Students sit in school all day long and have very few to no breaks to relax and get a break from learning. This can affect their performance. Sitting in a desk all day can be tiring. After a while you can catch yourself zoning off and not learning. Getting to leave school for lunch means that kids could go home and relax a little, get energized for the day again.

Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
I am convinced that students would do better in school if they had a midday break that allowed them enough time to eat a good meal because they need to recharge their brains with physical activity. This will give students an extra push to have more energy when they return back to class. Critics may exaggerate that this method will do nothing but make students drained and exhausted personally I disagree. A mid-day break for an hour will do nothing but strengthen us, all of us. Recently closed campus has been an argument at our school lately. Should a student have the choice to leave campus? Yes it’s a great idea but lately the school board has been putting it in our heads that that is a bad idea. Students love an open campus it gives them variety. They hate the idea of eating the same unappealing meal every day. Lunch gives students a moment to blow off steam and have some free time. Open campus gives students the time to learn to be more responsible.

School districts in America have opposed open campus lunch benefits due to common knowledge and concern for potential student endangerment. A reason why schools should change educational environment would be to accommodate what students’ need to create comfortable working conditions. Have you checked your weight today? That’s what we all hear while in the mall or walking near a restroom. A lady speaking those words on a scale where most people continue walking because they’re afraid of the TRUTH. We all have avoid stepping on the scale due to seeing a change in our weight, especially women. Despite, we should face our fears and try to figure out what can we do to change things. Our health is one of the most important things in life. It is a must that we maintain it on a daily basis so that we can live the long, happy, healthy lives that we all deserve. But in reality, we do not take all precautions as we should to survive. As each day pass, I see numerous amount of people who are overweight or obese of all race, age and sex.
It is sad to see students not getting the appropriate amount of nutrients, feeling sickly every day, and falling behind in class because they cannot concentrate due to the fact that they are hungry. The only hot meal that most of these students are getting is during school hours. The need for the Backpack Food Program is evident. According to the nonprofit organization Feeding America, there are 22 million children across the nation that goes home hungry every day (Backpack Program, 2018).
Education plays a dominant role in the lives of students all over the United States. Since most students spend roughly eight to twelve hours in school, it is important to make sure that they are provided with a healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack.
